Well God damn. I didn’t realize there was a Merry Christmas II You vinyl available yesterday. I would have snatched it up. The Rarities vinyl is sold out on her website too. I guess lambs are using their stimulus money. 😞

Hey lambs! How do y'all feel about Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel? This album is rarely discussed and seems to be forgotten. TEOM turned me into a fan, but I would say this album is when I became a lamb. I loved this album. My favorites are 1. The Impossible 2. H.A.T.E.U (The lyrics in the bridge make me cry.) 3. Ribbon 4. It's a Wrap During this album era, I began to seek out her earlier music.(I think I discovered Slipping Away, one of my favorite MC songs, around this time.) I think the public perception of her marriage to Nick Cannon and the poor single choices marred the reception of this album.

It's a mood album, which is why I think it's overshadowed. It's also a bloated album and would be better with a few tracks left off. My favorites are similar to you: HATEU Ribbon Candy Bling It's a Wrap The Impossible Up Out My Face

Memoirs is one of my favourite MC albums as it’s so different from all her other albums and at the same time there is something distinctly familiar. It might be languishing and IWTKWLI that remind me of 90’s Mariah but Betcha & Obsessed pull it more to new territory for her.
I think some of the promo at the beginning of the era was mishandled again due to her delaying the album several times. But all in all I would say it had good promotions for all the singles (more than her next two studio albums put together).
Obsessed going top10 was great, and even the other singles getting top100 was something I took for grated because look at her now...
The album has almost sold platinum in the USA due to physical and digital/streaming, so really not a bad era for her in 2009

But all in all I would say it had good promotions for all the singles (more than her next two studio albums put together). MIAM actually had terrific promo, it's just that it ended up so spread out because of Mariah delaying the album. "#B" had a great setup with the promo campaign that got people hyped, and then performances on Idol, Good Morning America, BET, and Macy's 4th of July. She then later had appearances on Fallon, New Year's Eve, Today Show, BET Honors, and had that NBC primetime special. Imagine if all of that had happened within the framework of a normal release.

#B was the exception because she was somewhat of an “it girl” thanks to Idol. But the few radio spots she did for You’re Mine or that Facebook thing for TAOLG just didn’t cut it.

I feel Memoirs gets talked about here quite a lot.
It was an interesting roll out, but some of her more interesting material came out of it.
Ribbon and Candy Bling especially. And I am absolutely here for The Impossible.
I think her and Dream worked well together and I liked that she branched out to give her writing a little personality.
I hope that Jumpsmokers remix album sees the light of day - cause I did appreciate some of those mixes. Standing O was my favorite.

Well, she released "TAOLG" on her own. That wasn't really a single. That was when the label wasn't doing sh*t until she produced a album finished album, though she was still on Fallon during that time and did the NYE thing. I think those had been set as continued promo for the album, but unfortunately Mariah hadn't delivered the album. Mariah essentially ran through her promotional budget before the album even dropped.

Had she only released the album in 2013 while on Idol. Even if was only ten tracks like Caution! It would’ve been heard by the World!!

That 12 track album would’ve been amazing just the way it was for the time.

I think it's a fantastic track even though it's not everyone's cup of tea. Memoirs has a few tracks I really love, and it is quite different from E=MC2 and MIAM. She really did step it up lyrically on Memoirs, and it is more varied than I gave it credit for. In fact, Mariah's last four studio albums are all pretty different from one another. It'll be interesting to see what she releases next!

It was a big mistake. TAOLG was a fine album closer and I can’t help but think if they didn’t try that fb thing (ie if JD wasn’t her “manager) then it would’ve still been on the album. The title was even named after the song so obviously Mariah was into it until it didn’t blow up on the Facebook charts and she got scared.
By November 2013 it was too late for the album anyway, her big chance to make a splash would’ve been May-June 2013. In a perfect world with no internal Idol fighting we would’ve gotten this album:
1. You Don’t Know What To Do (ft. Nicki Minaj) 2. Cry 3. Faded 4. Dedicated (ft. Nas) 5. #Beautiful (ft. Keith Urban) 6. You’re Mine 7. Make It Look Good 8. Thirsty 9. Mesmerized 10. Camouflage 11. Meteorite 12. The Art Of Letting Go

In 2008, I frequently had the E=MC2 CD on repeat. I had preferred it to TEOM. Now, barring Side Effects and Thanx 4 Nothing, I find the lyrics either juvenile or subpar for her standards. With Memoirs, she definitely stepped it up lyrically. She is past commercial prime, but I wonder how well her new album will do given her career resurgence and recent acclaim.

I don't care for "TAOLG." It's different, but not something I make a point to listen to.

I think the public perception of her marriage to Nick Cannon and the poor single choices marred the reception of this album. I remember at the time not caring for some of the tracks. I thought the cd was a bit long but because it was MiMi I was happy to have them all. lol At the time I LOVED "Obsessed" and remember the promotion and attention it got was good. Then "I Want To Know What Love Is" which I liked 3/4th of it killed the momentum. MiMi had just turned 39 at the time and it was probably hard to get it going again being how radio is with woman over 35. I always thought "IWKWLI started out great but got WAY to loud and noisy when the chorus enters. I am on the opposite end of most lambs with this opinion but I thought "HateU" was an awful single choice at the time. It was so boring... My favorite songs were: Obsessed Inseparable Standing O (I was OBSESSED with this for awhile) More Than Just Friends and Angels Cry (I thought it should of smashed..) I also liked "Candy Bling, Betcha Gon know" It's A Wrap, Up Out Of My Face and I guess I Want To Know What Love Is". I got used to "Ribbon" after awhile but it took me awhile for "HateU". Never Got into "The Impossible" or the reprise or the "Angel" (the prelude) either.

Listening to the remixes for "Bringin' On The Heartbreak" now. I'm disappointed in the Junior Vasquez ones - he seemed to phoned it in. The Global Soul and Ruanne Emmenes are much better where the former centers the vocal moments while the later adds a Latin flare and brings a dark urgency to the song.

Does anybody know why Mariah didn't continue working with Lionel Cole after writing Through The Rain with him? I don't think he was part of the Emancipation at all was he?

I don't know the exact reason, but he has extremely few writing credits over the course of his career ("Through The Rain" is easily the biggest of them). He's a piano player and has been part of touring bands, including Mariah's for the Charmbracelet tour. My guess, knowing Mariah's writing process, is that she wrote it with him while he was helping her with the music by playing the piano based on what she was hearing and describing to him. He played piano on a couple other songs on that album, but that's the only one he has writing credits on. I think Big Jim Wright basically took over in a similar capacity for The Emancipation of Mimi.

^ThanksHas anyone heard this (somewhat) recent interview from former Mariah manager randy hoffman? It's quite interesting and he goes in depth with the start of her career and stories I have never heard before. It's an interesting perspective from a business standpoint and he even touches on the divorce a little bit. I had no idea he manages Daley and works with Roc Nation and Epic. I just realized something after watching this fascinating interview. For the longest time I've been saying if Mariah could only have one more big hit/album I would be happy. But that's not the truth, I've been lying to myself. The truth is I never want Mariah not to have a big hit/album. I am selfish and I am greedy and even if she does accomplish a #1 album and song with the next release I will still be looking for another big era the time after that. It's almost an addiction. And it's because I actually see her as someone with real talent in a business full of Shams.
