I feel like there's way too much in the book for it to be a movie; if it is a movie, it would gloss over stuff and be a standard biopic and pretty lame.
There's basically 1-2 hours worth of stuff just from her childhood and teen years. If it's a miniseries, episode 1 would be the childhood stuff and episode 2 the search for a record deal and then making her debut (I could see the episode ending with Arsenio Hall and/or the Grammys). The third episode would be the pressure to maintain success and the marriage to Tommy, as well as the cracks starting to show (like the dinner with the knife). Episode 4 could be the stuff with Derek and the divorce and label issues (that meeting in Japan has got to be a scene). Episode 5 would be the Glitter/breakdown episode, perhaps capped off with the Cam'ron scene (that has to be in the series, too). Then episode 6 would be the making of TEOM, the huge comeback, and the pseudo-happy ending.

I have never felt so bored with Xmasriah before in my life. I feared it would come to this eventually, especially now that she’s been as idle
musically for as long as she’s been. I really think she’s in dire need of a new album release; an actual, non-Christmas album. She’s been swallowed up by Christmas/AIWFCIY.

That would have added some excitement to this year, as well as be another song she could add into her setlist since it needs new life. A great start. It fluctuates a bit during the season because some albums are more streams dependent (streams of course increase as Christmas nears), while something like the Charlie Brown soundtrack is more sales dependent and does better early on. Last year as Christmas neared, the top 3 holiday albums tended to consistently be Michael Buble at #1 and then Nat King Cole and Mariah Carey at #2 and #3, respectively. Mariah was usually 15-25k behind Buble in terms of the SPS totals. I wouldn't hold my breath for the Diamond cert this year. Merry Christmas does 300k a season at most in the U.S., so it takes roughly 3 years to do 1 million. It was certified 8x platinum in 2020 and then 9x platinum in 2023, which tracks. That would mean 10x platinum in 2026, though maybe 2025 depending how many of these 30th anniversary editions they're shipping out. I'm really hoping Merry Christmas II You finally gets certified Platinum this year. Yeah, that helps with things like the year-end chart and the all-time chart. Meanwhile: |
