Even if Sony has released AIWFCIY as a commercial single, it would have been limited because it's a holiday track- hence, a shorter run. So, it probably would not have been her second-biggest (initial) hit after WBT.
Those revisionist Billboard charts looks at airplay and digital sales from a certain period of time- AIWFICY is the No. 1 track from the 1995 chart year, that has the most combined airplay and sales from the period Billboard is looking at (which is digital sales since 2004, and airplay since 2010).

To be fair, Mariah was pretty shady towards Madonna during the E=MC2 roll out, so I wouldn't be surprised if that pissed Madonna off. I did think they were on good terms now though? I don't know why I feel like I remember Mariah calling Madonna an 'icon' or something like that fairly recently. What did MC do or say? I can't recall her mentioning anything about M. I don't think Mariah really shaded Madonna in the E=MC2 era either. There was this, but it's not really shade: S.E: How do you feel about Madonna having recorded an R&B album? M.C: Interesting (pauses). It's very interesting.
S.E: On it, she collaborates with Pharrell, with whom you worked, Mimi. Perhaps you gave her some inspiration? M.C: I don't know, I don't have any idea about her intentions. I'll just say that it's very interesting (she tries not to laugh, and I'm able to notice it, despite the shadow).www.mariahjournal.com/infozone/magazines/2008/spain_shangay/index.shtmlMariah was asked about Madonna this year on an interview, just before MIAM was released. She praised her saying "she was a trailblazer" and "she helped the industry in a lot of ways".

Does it matter for her career overall? Possibly not.

Mariah Carey has always been one great song from big album sales. The fact that her big to moderate successful song was a year before the album dropped plays a part. She sold gold previously off a similar in success type of song. When she hasn't had that song (Glitter, Charm and now) her sales have been poor, its just now poor is really poor cause the industry is poor as f**k when it comes to sales.
Sometimes after failures the public writes off people and regardless what they do they get stuck there. Mariah can never be written off and she is one great single from a Gold album. Its so easy to get public attention to swing nowadays.
1) Lose a whole bunch of weight and it will be all over the place insert name shocking new body! what did they do? what did they eat? wow look at their body (while my ass yawns like who cares?)
2) Wear a amazing dress at a big event and show up in every blog and magazine
3) get face surgery
4) date someone new.
5) dump them
6) start dating another person
7) If all else fails, start a twitter war, have social media buzzing with memes and checking your timeline for what you going to say next
Its so easy to manipulate the public with fake s**t if she wanted to go that route but i'd rather her just show up and make a great song, present herself well and go back to just promoting the music. I honestly can't remember the last time she went to a interview and spoke in depth about her music, lately it's just a passing comment.

Has Mariah ever publicly responded to criticism regarding her voice within the past say, 10 years aside from the infamous MJ funeral performance? Its just hard to believe that with the scrutiny she has been getting even well before the Rockefeller performance last week that she hasn't at least indirectly addressed the reason for the deterioration. I know that she had stated how delicate her voice is because of her vocal nodules but you know, aside from that.

No because really outside of maybe Wendy Williams who has the balls to sit infront of a legend and bring that up? but if they did she would probably give them this

Yeah. What is she supposed to say? "My voice isn't what it used to be." Everyone already knows that.

I know that she had stated how delicate her voice is because of her vocal nodules but you know, aside from that. I'm a fan of Mariah's voice and musicianship more than any other artist's, so I always love it when she herself talks about it and its condition (which is rare). Besides her apologizing for her MJ memorial performance, I don't think she's ever responded to criticism regarding her voice. She once sort of complained that people "love when she sings in her upper registers, as opposed to the more breathy style she loves as well". If anything, she mostly comments on her voice when it's on the upswing. She said in 2011 that her pregnancy left her voice in "great shape," just before TEOM came out she said "her voice came close to what it sounded like when she first started out". Also, she gave a very interesting interview after the birth of her twins where she talked about her career; the reporter dared to ask if her voice was the same then as it was in 1990 and she said that it all depends on talking and, especially, sleeping. If she gets enough hours of sleep, she wakes up with her voice sounding as it did in 1990. I hope she doesn't ever feel the need to clarify/comment on her Rockefeller performance, because she doesn't need to at all. Anyway, here's a pretty recent pic of MC (I don't think it was posted) in NYC with fans:

TBH that Billboard article doesn't make sense. The single wasn't available for sale and wasn't top 10 in airplay in 1994 or 1995, so how would it have been #1 on a revised Hot 100? I thought it was saying it would be #1 for 1995 (i.e. for the year) if it had been eligible to chart all of these years. That makes sense because it would have like 80 weeks on the Hot 100 at this point, and in some years (like 2005) it likely would have been top 10.

Exactly it's an extremely stupid and nonsensical exercise in making charts out of random assortments of Data.

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen came on when I was smonking and doing some lite cleaning of my room. What a STUNNING vocal performance. Her Christmas albums are better than 2/3 of her catalog LOL. Who else but Mariah?

I don't know why they kept that track so guarded. It was on Japan original release of Merry Christmas, right? And then on deluxe release in USA years back.... but, she tinkered with it and added some unnecessary whispering.
I've always loved it. What an amazing representation of what she could do with that voice.

I'm surprised she's never done SANTA BABY. I'd love to hear her voice on that one.

jeng- I posted it earlier, but- Billboard is looking at digital sales from 2004 to the present, and airplay from 2010 to the present, for those revisionist rankings. Thus, among tracks that charted in Billboard's 1995 chart year (which is when AIWFCIY debuted- Dec. 1994), AIWFCIY is the track with the most sales and airplay from those time periods. Hope that helps. :)

Yeah, the only version of MC I own is the deluxe DualDisc version. I don't recall hearing any whispers on GRYMG tho...

Wow. Only Mariah Carey, the queen of music and Christmas could inspire a neighborhood to dedicate and sync their Christmas lights to a modern day Christmas classic that she WROTE and sang 20 years ago. :'(

I want a creative social media "All I Want For Christmas" campaign. Capitalize on the foolishness sheep mentality eagerness of people to get swept up in online buzz. Attach a fun campaign with a classic and loved song and watch it spread. Get that Carey money!

If I were her, I would drop multiple new videos of All I Want For Christmas is You (like a Roc and Roe version) of her own and do a contest for fans or creative people in general to create their own AIWFCIY video and the top 5 winners get posted on her channel. And give the winner of the video contest a shot at directing her next studio album single music video.
