Nick is going to learn that he better not try it because he will lose. Also when you are at a Mariah Carey level, I wonder how much of this battle is drawn out because the lawyers like that nice dollar they make and want to keep making it as much as possible.

"All I Want For Christmas Is You" is the TOP song on Spotify WW. (#2 US) Sleighing just like last year and I'm sure it'll continue to sleigh for years to come. :'( When will the other one trick pony tail girls? Merry Christmas drops 49-59 on the Billboard 200, drops 65-83 on Album Sales and holds at No. 17 on Holiday Albums. Hey, looks like you got your holiday wish! Merry Christmas!

Yes, along with the other chart tidbits, reporting that a holiday album dropped on the charts- at a time when most do- is something that I dream about and pray for all year long. Some should put their unnecessary shade to good use, like on a scorching, sunny day... by the pool, on the beach, in the streets. See (and hear) ya next season, "All I Want..." and more festive Mimi.

Possible songs for Mariah if she did a third holiday album: - "I'll Be Home for Christmas" (she'd sound incredible) - "Away In a Manger" - "Silver Bells" - "O Come Come Emmanuel" - "Breath of Heaven" (could be epic; could combine with "Mary Did You Know" perhaps) - "Marshmallow World" - "Winter Wonderland" - "Carol of the Bells" (I'd die for an a Capella a la "God Rest Ye...)
She'd obviously have more new ones. I'd love a duet with someone on an old jazz song like "The Christmas Waltz."

Yes @ Carol of the Bells a la God Rest..
Also, I would love for her to cover Mary Did You Know.

I've always wanted her to cover the Nat King Cole classic, "The Christmas Song"
Chestnuts roasting on an open fire...

I've always wanted her to cover the Nat King Cole classic, "The Christmas Song" Chestnuts roasting on an open fire...I think she said she'll never cover that song because its such a classic its "perfect" the way it is. Or something to that effect.

Or something to that effect. Can't say I disagree (was kind of reluctant to suggest it). That song is truly magical and no one can ever touch it, just like no one can touch Mariah's own AIWFCIY. Nat King Cole's vocal and clear annunciation fits perfectly with the original production. However, the lamb in me would love to hear her rich vocals on it.

That list reminds me how, thus far, she's really avoided many of the Christmas songs I don't like. As much as I want another Christmas album, there aren't too many of the old classics left that I really want her to cover.

My least favorite Christmas songs are Feliz Navidad, Wonderful Christmastime, and Little Drummer Boy. Thankfully Mariah has avoided them apart from a small inclusion of LDB that didn't grate.
I listed the ones I thought her voice would sound good on and left out "The Christmas Song" for the reason mentioned, but there are still others she can do: - "White Christmas" - "This Christmas" (I think she said she'd never do this one either) - "Have Yourself a Merry Christmas" - "Do You Hear What I Hear?" - "Frosty the Snowman" (maybe combine with "Winter Wonderland") - "Please Come Home For Christmas" - "Blue Christmas"
I just wish one if her other originals would get some big exposure. "When Christmas Comes" could easily be covered and become a standard. Regardless it should be used in some holiday films with its great family atmosphere.

Is it true that Mariah had recorded "Where Are You Christmas" but wasn't allowed to release it so it was re-recorded by Faith Hill?
If so, I would love an "unintentional" leak of the song.
I know she probably wouldn't ever release it on her own right on a CD (like a third MC album) but I would like to at least hear it if she did record it.

I always assumed Mariah at least recorded a demo because Faith's vocal on that song sounds just like Mariah around that time.

had Mariah actually released it for the soundtrack she would be the undisputed Queen of Christmas hands down. Then her second Christmas album could've looked like this instead:
MERRY CHRISTMAS II YOU 1. Santa Clause Is Coming To Town (Intro) 2. Oh Santa! 3. O Little Town of Bethlehem/Little Drummer Boy (medley) 4. Christmas Time Is In The Air Again 5. The First Noel 6. When Christmas Comes 7. Here Comes Stana Clause 8. Charlie Brown Christmas 9. O Come All Ye Faithful (feat. Patricia Carey) 10. One Child 11. Where Are You Christmas (from the motion picture; the Grinch Who Stole Christmas) 12. All I Want For Christmas Is You (extra festive acoustic set)
now THAT would be a Christmas album to rival her first!

or she could take 2 or 3 years and come up with ALL new Christmas classics/melodies!
actually scratch that its really hard to accomplish even one or 2 new great christmas songs and i don't want a album full of fillers.

I hope she never does "Do You Hear What I Hear?" That would mean I'd have to choose between hers and Whitney's and I just can't. :'(
She should definitely release her own "Where Are You Christmas."
But really I don't think she should do a 3rd Christmas record. It'd be diminishing returns imo, maybe a couple songs only or an EP. She just needs to promote the 2nd one some more so it doesn't completely get forgotten.

Now that "AIWFCIY" got it's Vevo cert, I think her next one in line is "Touch My Body." It's just over 80 million views:

Mariah's version of "CBPCH" is the top version on the Billboard Holiday 100 so that's cool. She has 3 songs from Merry Christmas on the Holiday 100, no? And then "OHN" has been charting at iTunes. "JTTW" has before as well, right? Classic.
"AIWFCIY" is around 3 million in digital sales. Between Vevo, Spotify, etc it could be eligible for a 4 million cert in the U.S. Where is it's updated cert Sony?!?!

She may not have stated it, but she also may consider "White Christmas" as one of those untouchables (she has included Bing Crosby in her Christmas playlists).

I agree, if she does a third and it really doesn't do well sales wise (nothing does at this point anyway) or the critics bash it then she looses some of her Christmas steam. Its just not worth it. I think she should film a video for "CTIITAA" for next Christmas. If "Where are You Christmas" was her single back in the day and it was on MCIIY it would've really helped with sales. The year MCIIY came out "WAYC" was #15 on the Billboard Holiday songs charts.

She's experiencing diminishing returns anyway.
Also if anything negatively impacts her yearly Christmas exposure, it's that radio started moving away from the Christmas overload this year. There was a huge spike after 9/11, and radio finally decided to cut back this year. Regardless, she still got plenty of exposure this year and I don't think it's anything to worry about any time soon.

My town's marching band is going to perform an orchestral arrangement of "All I Want For Christmas Is You" tonight on their Holiday concert. They've been doing it for the past 4 years at least

Can anyone tell me what happened to radio this year? I don't remember if an actual article was posted, but someone else was talking about it a few days ago. Airplay for Christmas songs during the holiday season experienced a major spike during the holiday season of 2001 as radio programmers were trying to make their playlists more positive after 9/11. This led to a lot of AC stations switching entirely to Christmas music. This was a polarizing move, and it seems like after a decade and a half, it's drawing enough negative criticism that stations around the country played less Christmas music than they had in recent years, and a lot of AC stations kept contemporary hits on their playlist rather than switching to 100% Christmas. It was apparent this year, with "All I Want For Christmas Is You" not peaking as high as usual (yet still being the most played song of the season) and the AC chart not being completely overtaken by Christmas songs.

Every holiday season I hear Faith's (which is good of course), and can't help but imagine how EPIC Mariah's is. :'( I hope she never does DYHWIH because, even though I *love* Whitney's version, I generally can't stand that song. That along with "Blue Christmas," "Go, Tell It On A Mountain," ( ) "Away In A Manger," "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel" and "My Favorite Things" are my least favorite Christmas songs. I'd love for her to cover "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas," "All Alone On Christmas," "Merry Christmas Darling" and "Jingle Bell Rock". Lol!! That said, I don't want another Christmas album so soon after MCIIY, either. I'd love a new Christmas song next year, but not an album anytime soon. Save that for 2020 or something lol. I hope she had a wonderful Christmas. She looked so cute in the pics from Aspen!!!

Mariah's scheduled to headline this Jazz festival in Jamaica in January. Besides that, we don't have anything else concrete to look forward to next. Who knows what kind of Mariah year 2015 will be like... Probably a low-key one and, fingers crossed, much smoother than what this year's been.
I hope the next album will be hopefully, more or less, finished by the time Christmas 2015 comes so she can release it. One thing I do know, I will lose it if she takes another 3 years or so to put it out!!
Producers I want her to work with:
-Big Jim -Jeff Bhasker -Dev Hynes -Harmony Samuels -The Smeezingtons
I would love for her to work with Common as far as rappers go, and I would like a duet with another singer also. Maxwell, Toni...even collaborating with someone unexepected like Santana would be awesome, IMO.
I just want her to push her sound to the next level! Be daring and artistic so she can serve up another critically acclaimed masterpiece.
In any case, let's hope we get studio updates on twitter as soon as January; The Elusive Chanteuse tour and, especially, the Christmas concerts helped a great deal so she needs to put them golden pipes to use!

I honestly think if she were to do a Christmas song it would be Santa Baby as it is sung in a manner of vocal she loves. Winter Wonderland would be nice. She has been very smart about the songs she chooses for Christmas as she has avoided comparisons. Out of fun, I would love to hear her sing, I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas, but that would be more of a fun interlude for her Christmas show. The First Noel would be a good one too.

The First Noel would be a good one too. Yeah, I was thinking that myself. Especially if she added a little slow jam bit at the end and sang "born is the king, born is the king".
