I will limit myself to one.
Though I really, really like his cover of Hey, Brother, as well.

As a huge Dwight Yoakam fan, I don't don't know how I forgot to mention 'Suspicious Minds', which turned out to be the 18th and final #1 single for Elvis Presley when it hit #1 in Nov. of 1969 when I was in the 10th grade, leaving Elvis two behind the Beatles on the all-time list.
One year earlier, Jeannie C. Riley's 'Harper Valley PTA', written by the incomparable Tom T. Hall, took the biggest jump in the history of the Hot 100 (84-7), yet would only spend two weeks at #1 thanks to The Beatles, whose instant classic 'Hey Jude' followed that blistering country masterpiece to #1 for a 9-week stay at #1, and costing Ms. Riley a chance to wind up with the #1 single of 1968, since she spent another 5 weeks at #2 behind that beyond-humungous Beatles classic.

*weeps* HOW COULD I HAVE FORGOTTEN THIS Your fan card has been revoked ;) But really, that is one of the best vocal performances I've ever heard from Carrie and it will forever be one of the best covers of all-time. She really needs to record that someday. Like for a bonus track on a greatest hits album or something.

I really like a lot of these songs, but I'm going to have to go with These Days by Glenn Campbell. This was a beautiful song that is one of the most poignant things I've ever heard. Previously recorded by Jackson Browne. Highly recommend! www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBexPuk-qK8

This is amazing. Needs to be included on a new Dixie Chicks album that is long overdue tbh.

Reminded of this one tonight as I listen to Dolly's phenomenal bluegrass album trilogy. She has produced a number of other unconventional covers over the years as well. Her takes on such songs are always interesting, and I almost always prefer her version because her voice is just magical (and they're usually songs originally by artists I'd never listen to either, so there's that...).

Her version is horrible. You cannot do that to the most played song in Rock History! Over 300 million fans hate her version!

Her version is horrible. You cannot do that to the most played song in Rock History! Over 300 million fans hate her version! Her version is fantastic. Robert Plant even liked it, and he did a duet album a few years with Alison Krauss, one of the most well-known bluegrass singers, so I take his word for it. And that statement about how many fans hate it couldn't be more ridiculous.

Robert strays from his rock roots now days so I imagine he would praise Dolly's effort....

Most of my favorites have already been brought up, but here a couple by the finest cover singer of my lifetime.

Jo Dee's "Burn" from 2001 was actually a cover of a pop song by Australian pop singer Tina Arena.

I'd love to hear a studio version of Reba covering "Rolling in the Deep" (minus the rest obviously)

The crown jewel of covers for me is "Hurt" by Johnny Cash. Others: "Fix You" by Carrie (Coldplay cover) I LOATHE the original of this song, and when I heard Carrie was covering it, I cringed. But, man, she brings a whole different level of emotion and depth to this song for me that I personally didn't feel in the original version. Carrie has come so far in making her songs (or covers), truly unique to her, and I thought she did that with this song. Plus, her vocals are f***king amazing. Seriously, this woman nails covers better than 95% of her peers, Country or otherwise. "Someone Like You" by David Nail (Adele cover)When I heard David covered this, I thought I wouldn't think much of it, because the original is/was so popular. But, man, he can sing. By far the best vocalist in Country (along with Chris Young). He brought a different meaning to this one with his take on a female song, too. Dixie Chicks- "Walk Me Down This Lonesome Road" (James Taylor cover)I adore anything these ladies sing, but this one is a favorite. Their harmonies are breathtaking, and even more so when they sing acapella, as they did for this one. Little Big Town "Born This Way" (original by Lady Gaga)Hated this song originally but I love when artists completely strip down songs and just sing and have fun. The talent of these guys is mind-blowing to me. Doing something different with any song can usually give me a new appreciation for it as well. Carrie "Paradise City (Original by GN'R) I wasn't originally going to put two Carrie covers here, but I couldn't resist since I love both artists. But, man, this was/is one of Carrie's best performances ever to me. Her energy was just INSANE, and her vocals were still pretty amazing. I love that she went into full-on fangirl mode for this, and I thought it was awesome that GN'R (sort of) endorsed it by tweeting it.

This is far fetched, but "Texas Lightning" from Germany did a whole covers album: "Meanwhile, Back At The Ranch" which included: "Bad Case Of Loving You" Robert Palmer "Like A Virgin" Madonna "Kiss" Prince "Over The Mountains" Reinhard Mey (DE) "C'est La Vie" Chuck Berry "Highway To Hell" AC/DC "Dancing Queen" ABBA "Man In The Mirror" Michael Jackson "Norwegian Wood" The Beatles "Walk On The Wild Side" Lou Reed Live they also play: "Enjoy The Silence" Depeche Mode "Nothing Compares 2 U" The Family "You're The Voice" John Farnham (AU) Note: If you're boozed up enough you certainly will love them... They are a great live band. On CD it tends to sound a tiny bit sterile.

The songs I'd mention have already beem mentioned, just a couple comments/opinions
Mark Wills did a great version of 'Back At One', but Brian's was so much better.
And Jack Ingram's cover of 'Lips Of An Angel' was alright, but very blah compared to Hinder's.

SaraBeth - "I Want It That Way"
I like it. I don't care for The Backstreet Boys music as a whole, but this song, more than any other from that time period, instantly takes me back to being 9 years old again.

It's bluegrass but Dwight Yoakam's cover of "Purple Rain" is fantastic. If you haven't heard it check it out. Dwight sings the hell out of it.

^ I thought Yoakam did excellently on "Crazy Little Thing Called Love". But then again, it's kind of hard not to countrify that song.
His version of "I Want You to Want Me" on the other hand...

In no sort of order:
Electra Mustaine (Megadeth) - I thought I knew it all
Sara Evans (Edwin McCain) - I could not ask for more
Faith Hill (Angie Aparo) - Cry
Blake Shelton (Bubble) - Home
Dixie Chicks (Fleetwood Mac) - Landslide
Carrie Underwood (Fleetwood Mac) - Go your own way I know the latter perhaps wouldn't be considered that country-ish, but it was such an amazing song. Goosebumps amazing, not just your bog-standard amazing.
I have always been a big fan of Angie Aparo, and when I heard Faith Hill was covering it (Cry), a part of me did cringe in fear. However, her version is equally as wonderful, and really liked how she put her touch on the song.
