Dog Society Explores Range of Emotions on Rocking In the Shade
...
In the Shade opens hard, with a grunge-toned drum roll and screeching guitar. It’s surprising, then, when the ensuing song, “Heal Me Friend,” is an emotionally open plea, albeit a deceptive one. Never losing his sense of rock-and-roll, lead singer Rich Guerzon cries, “Please, please, heal me friend.” That contrast colors the rest of the latest effort from indie powerhouse Dog Society.

Second Dam - Swimming
...
The start of Second Dam’s debut album, Swimming, is very possibly designed to ease new listeners into the band’s richly unique sound: a lone electric fiddle enters stage left, and is followed by a bass, a ukelele, a guitar, and drums, until it’s time to introduce the most distinctive instrument in the band’s six-piece line-up. This is its not-so-secret weapon: the voice of KC Weston.

This One's For Keeps - Danny Schmidt and Carrie Elkin
...
A classic recommendation for writers advises them to “write what they know,” choosing themes from their own personal experiences in their art. When engaged couple Danny Schmidt and Carrie Elkin created their first collaborative album together, they took this concept to heart, opening themselves up for a personal record that reveals much about themselves as individuals and as a couple.

Gas Station Disco Reaches Back a Decade for Port and Starboard
...
In the constant cycle of musical trends, a “generation” seems to last about 10 years; we’re currently seeing the styles of the mid-2000s re-emerge, with rock artists re-imagining the post-grunge that dominated a decade ago, evoking the work of artists like 3 Doors Down and Hoobastank.
One such band is Gas Station Disco, who have just released their first full-length album, Port and Starboard. The nostalgia factor is strong for lovers of that bygone sound, but the Pennsylvania band keeps things fresh with contemporary touches like the occasional bit of dubstep, vocoder, or rap.

It Won’t Be Like it Never Happened – Elizabeth & The Catapult
...
I’ve twice had the immense pleasure of seeing Elizabeth & The Catapult perform. The second time, I was fortunate enough to meet Elizabeth Ziman, the singer-songwriter behind the folk-tinted pop unit. When I told her I had nothing for her to autograph (sorry, purists, but I bought the digital album), she grabbed my hand, placed it on her breast, and wrote “You rock! E.Z.” on it, all without saying a word. I don’t think I’ll ever forget that bizarrely hilarious moment.

Can this thread be moved to "Personal Reviews?" Phew, thank goodness there was no indie discussion. This forum is meant to sit at and look pretty.
