I'm sure people know it's out. He's done quite a bit of promo... People are just not buying it.

Why shouldn't we consider this a new era? It's a new album, and a single was sent to radio. He may have motives beyond just selling music, and not that many people might know it's out, but that doesn't change the fact that is the follow up album to Blurred Lines. If anything, this feels more like a side era to me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I didn't even know that this was a thing that was happening. This really shouldn't be indicative of a new album era when it's not that at all. Huh? What kind of nonsense is that? It is a new era. Period. I'm not saying the material is bad, as I like some tracks that I heard. I still say the album came out way too soon after his last one. If the album was called anything other than "Paula", it may have done 50K or greater.

Agreed with B4l, he basically just threw an album out dedicated to his wife, not caring if Interscope cares, or the mainstream. He knows he would've taken the BL promo route if he was gonna actually promote this.

Motherf*ckers in denial. He will flop harder than Mariah Carey. At the end of the day, I honestly don't care a lot about sales but let's call a spade a spade. It's ok baby, life does go on. #Trust

lmfao no one is in denial though. If anything it seems like there hasn't been much buzz about this, besides the people who have still been on pms since "Blurred Lines" came onto the scene and are riding the somewhat desperate tactics of why Robin is doing this album and running with it. Sure by definition it's an era since it's a new album or w/e, but in regards to marketing and other factors it seems like less of the usual fanfare his past albums have had from how I see it.
Also, random but I think Love After War gets such an unfair shake. It's just one of those albums that you can let play in full and without a hitch.

...because one-offs happen in the music business. See: "Here, My Dear" by Marvin Gaye, which was written and released only to pay his wife as part of a divorce settlement. Just because this album TECHNICALLY is the follow-up to Blurred Lines (meaning it was released immediately after that album), it doesn't mean it's a proper follow-up. Also, no one outside of Pulse uses the word "era." I don't expect him to do a tour in support of this album, where this album is the focus. Outside of the initial publicity, I don't expect him to go on a full promo tour for the album either. To me, those things are what define an "era". By no means am I inside Robin's head, but I would imagine he recorded and released this album as a purge, nothing more, nothing less.

The album only sold 530 copies in the UK. Blurred Lines opened with 25k.

The album only sold 530 copies in the UK. I saw those numbers on FB, but the title of the article that was shared conveniently "forgot" to mention it was UK sales. I knew there was no way he did that low in the US. Is there any word on what he's projected to sell here? And clearly the argument if this is an official era or not is not worth having in this thread, as everyone seems to have their mind made up, but let me just say this: if this album had been successful, no one would be saying it was a side project.

He is being dragged all over the internet. "Blurred Lines" really was a gift and a curse.

He messed up by releasing Give It To Me right afterwards. It held the same message that was in BL and it turned off A LOT of people...video included. Urban AC was satisfied with 4 The Rest of My Life, but releasing something like Feel Good or basically anything except for that other will.i.am trash song, he would've been in a good position.

The press is showing him NO mercy right now. "Blurred Lines" was definitely a blessing and curse for him. I bet if he could go back, he wouldn't have released it. His life is in shambles, personally and professionally. Damn.

Apparently the album sold less than 54 copies in Australia.
To put that into perspective, his last album opened with around 43,000 copies there.

Maybe Jennifer Lopez can take solace in that she didn't have the lowest selling album this year after all.

I've absolutely hated "Blurred Lines" from day one. I was really into his albums in the 00s, but he's not really doing it for me anymore...

Of course its a new era, just because its pulled a Nelly Furtado doesn't mean you can sweep it under the rug and pretend it never happened.

At least, for me, an album that is promoted consitutes an era. If we can separate The Fame Monster from The Fame as its own era, then this should qualify. That's not the worst thing either. Everybody flops eventually.

When they're talking about the overheard costs of $6.9 million, is that including the video and promotional expenses? Or was that overhead costs for the entire album?
