I'm really impressed after a first listen. Any doubts about her country music abilities due to her name should be wiped away after this EP.
My favorite aspect is the instrumentation. "Shotgun Wedding", "Run", and "Mandolin Summer Sun" have an upbeat country sound created by fiddles, smoky drums, and a resonant production that compliments Spears' vocals well.
Then "How Could I Want More" and "Big Bad World" show off a different understated production and light instrumentation that allow Spears' vocals to shine and help her satisfaction resonate in "How Could I Want More" and her story connect in "Big Bad World".
"Run", "How Could I Want More", and "Big Bad World" are the highlights for me. Also, "Shotgun Wedding" sounds like something Miranda Lambert would record.

This EP is great. I really love Jamie Lynn's voice and her musical style is very refreshing. I hope she can eventually land somewhere that can turn her into a star with country radio, but I'll settle for just enjoying her new music for now.

All very good songs, but I think the one that comes closest to the magnificent "How Could I Want More" would be "Mandolin Summer Sun". I think I'll certainly be playing that one a lot in the coming months.

Went into this listening expecting some cheap pop-country songs that would sale on her name and have no merit, but boy was I wrong. There's some strong material here. Very pleasantly surprised.
