Artist: Keith Urban Single: "Somewhere In My Car" Writers: Keith Urban, J.T Harding Album: FuseLabel: Hit Red/Capitol Nashville Add Date: June 23rd Source"Somewhere In My Car" is the next single from Fuse. WYCD in Detroit claims this is Keith's new single and put it up this afternoon on their New Music Spotlight which they only do for confirmed singles (This is how I got the information for "Tattoo" by Hunter Hayes being his next release as well). I don't quite know if they changed their mind over the past couple weeks or if this was the choice all along. Got to say, I prefer this song so much over "Good Thing". Fuse was very hit-and-miss for me and this was one of the songs that really stood-out for me on the album.

I adore Keith. I think his voice stands out, and I love that. I usually prefer female vocalists, but I love him and have for some time. He's definitely become one of my favourite male vocalists. I really, really loved Fuse and was okay with "Good Thing," but I like this choice even more. This song sounds perfect for the summer weather. I have seen lots of love here for "Raise 'Em Up," but this part of that song sounds just like "Somebody Like You" and I find that far too distracting.

I don't disagree with you but it doesn't distract me. :) Still, it's funny that you compare REU to SLY because I was actually thinking something similar for "Somewhere In My Car", that it sounds a bit similar to Keith's "I Told You So" at times. Here's a link to the 1:13 mark in the song; I think the riffs of the lower guitar part for that 6 seconds through 1:19 or so sounds quite like the low riffs in parts of ITYS, specifically beginning at the 1:59 mark here, (although you can hear them after the chorus in ITYS too, but just not quite as pronounced as the guitar in SIMC). Also, oddly enough, the video for "I Told You So"--which I love--is no longer on Keith's YouTube/Vevo page..? Or at least I don't see it anywhere on there or even when I search YouTube for it. Anyway, I love SIMC a lot--it's definitely my favorite song on Fuse by a pretty good margin, so I'm glad they changed their minds from "Good Thing" (btw I moved the GT thread to the non-singles/album tracks forum rather than deleting it). I don't know if I like SIMC quite as much as "I Told You So" though, as that's one of my all-time top favorite KU singles :)

Boo yah. Love it. Both singles so far this year have a great chance of making my best-of list.

As I said in the "Cop Car" thread, this was the single. CDX has it on their promo database too. It's a good choice. This album could go 6 singles deep.
Also, the familiarity of this single is likely why it was picked as a single, too.

I was torn between wanting Good Thing or Somewhere in My Car as the next single. When I first heard the album, I knew instantly Good Thing was my favorite. It has a great beat, but now that I listened to it so much I've worn myself out on it. I find it really hard to wear myself out on Somewhere in My Car, so honestly I'm super happy with the change in single choice! It's so catchy and I love the lyrics. Hope this one does better than Cop Car. It's a shame that one didn't make it to at least top 3. I thought it was for sure a #1 hit. Think I was jinxed. Lol

Absolutely thrilled that they're releasing this. I've really loved all the single choices from Fuse.

Funny how, even though this is still a Dann Huff production, it still sounds so different from the usual Keith Urban formula. The melody sounds a bit like "Kiss a Girl" mixed with "Somewhere with You".
Great stuff. I was blown away by this album, and this track was one of the many reasons why.
I wonder if the solos are all K.U., or if Huff played some too? Huff usually has a very "heavy" playing style, and the liner notes say that unlike the previous Urban/Huff collabs, Huff actually played guitar on this too instead of letting Keith do all the guitar work.

Thrilled with this choice. This was one of my favorites on the CD since the first listen. I love Good Thing too but I'd rather hear this on the radio. This CD was full of great songs and I think they've done an excellent job picking the singles. I've actually picked singles 2,3, and 4 in the correct order. If they go with Raise 'Em Up in the Fall, I will be 4 for 4 of singles I wanted which never, ever happens :)

Dann has played a lot of instruments on Keith's albums over the years: e-bow, guitar and mandocello on PYIAS, guitar and mandolin on YGF, guitar on LHS and for Without You, Keith actually only plays the banjo and it's Dann and Ilya Toshinsky that play the guitar on it. So glad this is the next single, it's by far my favourite off the album.

I think some are hoping for Raise em Up for the fall since it isn't a Summer song and Cop Car was a ballad so they are going with an upbeat song.

I really could care less if his last two singles have the word "Car" in the title. If they feel it's the best song remaining in their opinion, then release it. Remember when Dierks was releasing all those songs in a row that had a road/travel theme to them ("Lot Of Leavin' Left To Do" #2, "Settle For A Slowdown" #1, "Every Mile A Memory" #1, "Long Trip Alone" #10, "Free And Easy (Down The Road I Go") #1). Judging by the peaks there, I'm sure it didn't matter. Or when Gary Allan had two of his three singles off his Alright Guy album titled "Man Of Me" and "Man To Man".
I'm glad they chose "Somewhere In My Car" fourth.

There he had TWO songs with "With You" in the title. Didn't seem to matter. People overthink things some times. Edited to add: "Somewhere In My Car" artwork

I like that artwork! Did that come from the label or is it just a "mock" single cover? ( rsmatto)

I mocked it but the image is from the new album PR. Unlike Eric Church, they're not making any official imagery outside of what radio may make for advertisements. I feel that if Wikipedia people wanna use it instead of the generic CD Pro covers they usually send out, might as well. Label's not likely to object too much. lol. Then again, there may be some Aussie single version of it too...

This song is about 90% of the way to being really good - then Dann Huff throws in that annoying back beat in the chorus that completely ruins the melody. I still like this a lot better than Good Thing, but with the overproduction I'm fairly sure I'll be sick of this in pretty short order.

The Radio Edit enhances the backbeat and the song's now basically a 'cold' start. It feels younger and fresher than the album cut. Fans may dislike this. I do wonder if they'd issue future pressings of the album with the new edit.

I got mine via MPe for Roughstock.

You can hear it here: jrfm.streamon.fm/listenlater-pl-406It kicks off about 26 seconds in. It's just a piano to start before the banjo kicks in for the pre-chorus. Otherwise not too different from the album version.

LOVE this song, too! Classic Keith song! My only issue is in the chorus when he sings the lyrics so fast I have to read the liner notes to totally understand the words....lol. Not sure if anyone else has trouble hearing all the lyrics or if it's just me. However, this song is definitely a #1 in my book!
