End of the day, her songs benefit immensely, especially as far as pop goes, from having strong vocal performances on the choruses. Her voice works well for rapping on the verses, but it can be really grating when she tries to cover the choruses (which is why Fancy and Black Widow work so much better than Work). Charli XCX and Rita Ora are both good singers with sexy voices, and they absolutely took these songs to the next level. Work is much better than Fancy and Black Widow and basically everyone that's been into her catalogue for a while says that's her best song so far though? Charli XCX could've been replaced by Gwen and Rita Ora by Katy Perry, per example, and it wouldn't have made any difference really. Iggy is the only unique part about these songs actually, the singers are very competent and the hooks are catchy obviously but let's not. It is Iggy's voice that stands out, and I suppose that it works for some people's dissatisfaction, but still she provides WAY more to these song's quality (and success) than people want to admit for some reason. Oh, absolutely. They actually would have been more successful in either of those cases. But my point was that they couldn't have been rapped by Iggy Azalea and still been as effective. People are really downplaying how much buzz there was around Work, if for no other reason than the video. Yet it never took off on any US platform UNTIL Fancy really helped Iggy's persona and voice come to life. And I think the chorus (and bridge) played a huge role in making it palatable for America. Note that I'm similarly not saying "Fancy" would have worked without Iggy's rap verses. Not downplaying her role at all - she's the star here - but there are very few rappers who can score at pop without the help of a smooth chorus. Iggy certainly wasn't one of those before Fancy broke; we'll find out if she is down the road.

Um, I love this song because of Iggy's verses.

I can't believe this is happening. I do not hear the hype surrounding this song. Something about both of their voices is unbearable on here (or in general, TBQH). I definitely like 'Fancy' to this.

It'll have a huge jump next week, looking at its rise on iTunes and airplay.

I absolutely love this. I like it at least as well as Fancy and while I think I prefer Iggy on that track, I like Rita more than Charlie XCX. Really hoping the success of this helps Rita Ora out stateside -- I'd really like to see her current single be a smash hit, too.
Also, there's elements in the production on this that remind me of something out of The Little Mermaid. The beat in places is very "under the sea" imo.

I'm not big on this, but a Kill Bill inspired video would get me on board. 'Fancy's video helped me get on that wave.

#40 on itunes and apparently the clean version is gaining some traction too (at #190).
