www.billboard.com/articles/news/6114191/miranda-lambert-billboard-200-platinum-album-chartMiranda Lambert Earns First No. 1 Album On Billboard 200By Keith Caulfield | June 11, 2014 As expected, country star Miranda Lambert earns her first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with the debut of "Platinum." The set — her fifth release — sold 179,000 copies in the week ending June 8, according to Nielsen SoundScan. That sum is Lambert's best sales week yet, and the largest for an album from a female country artist since the week ending Dec. 30, 2012. That week, Taylor Swift's "Red" sold 241,000, nine weeks after it debuted at No. 1 with 1.2 million. Lambert is only the 11th female country artist to top the Billboard 200, which became a regularly published list in 1956. (For perspective on that total of just 11 leading country ladies: More than 400 acts have tallied a No. 1 album.) Previous to Lambert, the last country female artist to get her first No. 1 was Swift, who topped the list for the first time on the chart dated Nov. 29, 2008 (when "Fearless" bowed at No. 1). Impressively, each of Lambert's albums have started with successively larger debut weeks. Her first release, "Kerosene," bowed at No. 18 in 2005 with 40,000. She followed it up with 2007's "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" (No. 6 with 53,000), 2009's "Revolution" (No. 8 with 66,000) and 2011's "Four the Record" (No. 3 with 133,000). "Platinum" also easily scores Lambert her fifth straight No. 1 debut on the Top Country Albums chart. The "Frozen" soundtrack rises 4-2 on the Billboard 200 with 52,000 (down 10 percent), while Brantley Gilbert's "Just As I Am" slips 2-3 with 48,000 (down 26 percent). Lambert is one of only two debuts in the top 10. She is joined by 50 Cent's "Animal Ambition" at No. 4 with 47,000 sold. The album — his first independently distributed release after leaving Interscope Records — marks his sixth top 10 effort. The rapper's last album, the 2009 Interscope set "Before I Self Destruct," debuted and peaked at No. 5 with a 160,000 start. Last week's No. 1, Coldplay's "Ghost Stories," falls to No. 5 in its third week, selling 46,000 (down 45 percent). The "Now 50" compilation holds steady at No. 6 with 41,000 (up 1 percent). Four albums return to the top 10: one after an absence of just one week, while the other three have been away for years. First up, following its parent film's opening in U.S. movie theaters, the soundtrack to "The Fault in Our Stars" jumps 18-8 with 36,000 sold (up 165 percent). It's the best sales frame yet for the album, which debuted three weeks ago at No. 8 with 34,000 and then fell to No. 18 with 13,000 in its second frame. The film finished as the highest-grossing movie at the U.S. and Canadian box office over the June 6-8 weekend, according to Box Office Mojo, raking in $48 million. At Nos. 7, 9 and 10 are three returning albums from rock gods Led Zeppelin. On June 3, the band reissued expanded versions of its first three releases, "Led Zeppelin," "Led Zeppelin II" and "Led Zeppelin III." The three albums respectively re-enter the chart with 37,000, 34,000 and 32,000. Led Zeppelin is the first act to notch three concurrent top 10 albums since Whitney Houston claimed three on the chart dated March 17, 2012 (following her death). Over on the Digital Songs chart, Iggy Azalea's "Fancy," featuring Charli XCX, stays put at No. 1 with 263,000 downloads sold (down 9 percent). Azalea is also in the No. 2 position, as Ariana Grande's "Problem," which features Azalea, sells 215,000 (down 12 percent). Sam Smith's "Stay With Me" logs its best week yet, as it runs 10-3 with 167,000 (up 62 percent). Magic's "Rude" is steady at No. 4 with 162,000, despite a significant 15 percent sales gain. Jason Derulo's "Wiggle," featuring Snoop Dogg, rises 6-5 with 146,000 (up 10 percent). Nico & Vinz's "Am I Wrong" drops 3-6 with 142,000 (down 5 percent). Florida Georgia Line's "This Is How We Roll," featuring Luke Bryan, charges 23-7 with 130,000 (up 130 percent). The song is aided by a newly released remix featuring Derulo, which accounts for 55 percent of its sales in the week ending June 8. On “Th CMT Music Awards” on June 4, all four of the acts combined (along with ZZ Top) for a show-opening medley, blending ZZ Top's "La Grange," "This Is How We Roll" and Derulo's "Talk Dirty." DJ Snake & Lil Jon's "Turn Down for What" falls 5-8 with 129,000 (down 6 percent), John Legend's "All of Me" descends 7-9 with 116,000 (down 5 percent), and Pharrell's "Happy" moves 9-10 with 105,000 (down 8 percent). Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending June 8) totaled 4.5 million units, up 8 percent compared with the sum last week (4.2 million) and down 7 percent compared with the comparable sales week of 2013 (4.8 million). Year-to-date album sales stand at 107.4 million, down 15 percent compared with the same total at this point last year (126.3 million). Digital track sales this past week totaled 21.3 million downloads, up 2 percent compared with last week (20.8 million) and down 15 percent stacked next to the comparable week of 2013 (24.9 million). Year-to-date track sales are at 529.6 million, down 12 percent compared with the same total at this point last year (604.8 million). Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2013 when: Black Sabbath scored its first No. 1 album with "13," which debuted with 155,000. The previous week's leader, Queens of the Stone Age's "Like Clockwork," fell to No. 15 in its second week with 24,000 (down 74 percent).

www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.29191/title.hip-hop-album-sales-week-ending-06-08-2014Hip Hop Album Sales: Week Ending 06/08/2014 by Andres Tardio posted June 11, 2014 50 Cent's first week sales figures for "Animal Ambition" are in. Meanwhile, Michael Jackson's "Xscape" and Iggy Azalea's "The New Classic" make up the remaining Top 3 albums in Rap and R&B. 50 Cent's Animal Ambition is the top Rap album of the week, a project that landed in the #4 spot in its first week of availability. Elsewhere on the charts, Michael Jackson has earned the #12 spot with Xscape and Iggy Azalea's The New Classic arrives at the 15 spot. The three projects make up the top Rap and R&B projects on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart. 50 Cent's Animal Ambition Arrives At #4 50 Cent's Animal Ambition's first week sales are in. The effort, which sold 46,728 units this week, earns 50 the #4 spot. Prior to these figures being made official, the emcee spoke on his expectations for the project's sales. "I can't do good," he said during a May interview. "In my head, what good is because of the success I've had in the past, that's so much lower. I've done so much that having the music that makes people enjoy themselves, that actually means something at the moment is the goal. Like when you said, 'Do you care whether you sell the record or not?' I do care that it actually is within our culture. That it means something." Michael Jackson's Xscape Lands At #12 Michael Jackson has earned the #12 spot this week. The singer's Xscape project has sold 25,358 units this week, the fourth week of the effort's availability. Jackson's Xscape has sold 284,272 units overall. The album is available for streaming via HipHopDX. The project features production from Timbaland and Rodney Jerkins, among others. In August 2013, Timbaland spoke about his work on the Jackson project. At the time, Timbo said the collection would be "something big." Iggy Azalea's The New Classic Earns #15 Spot Iggy Azalea's The New Classic has sold 17,599 units this week to end up in the #15 spot on the chart. Overall, Iggy has sold 163,202 copies of The New Classic. Azalea recently spoke with Billboard about her authenticity. "We get so caught up, especially in rap, with what's authentic, and I wish people would think more about what the fuck that even means," she has said. "One critic was like, 'Why didn't you talk about more Australian things?' I don't understand why I'm supposed to write a song about living in the outback and riding a kangaroo to be authentic." #4. 50 Cent - Animal Ambition - 46,728 (46,728) #12. Michael Jackson - Xscape - 25,358 (284,272) #15. Iggy Azalea - The New Classic - 17,599 (163,202) #18. Mariah Carey - Me...I Am Mariah... - 16,090 (74,670) #21. Does Hip Hop DX still go by the Current albums chart? The three Led Zeppelin albums would not appear there.

www.billboard.com/biz/articles/news/chart-alert/6114219/idina-menzels-ifthen-scores-show-stopping-chart-debutIdina Menzel's 'If/Then' Scores Show-Stopping Chart DebutBy Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles | June 11, 2014 The original Broadway cast recording of "If/Then" makes a show-stopping start on the Billboard 200 chart. Debuting at No. 19, the set marks the highest debut for a cast album since 1996. The last cast effort to start as high was "Rent," which also debuted (and peaked) at No. 19 on the chart dated Sept. 14, 1996 (selling 43,000). "If/Then" sold 15,000 copies in the week ending June 8, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Related "Rent" and "If/Then" have a common thread: both feature singer/actress Idina Menzel. The performer earned Tony Award nominations for both shows, for best featured actress in a musical (for "Rent") and actress in a leading role in a musical (for "If/Then"). (Menzel won the 2004 Tony Award for best actress in a musical for "Wicked.") Menzel, of course, also voiced the character of "Elsa" in the Disney film "Frozen," and took the movie's Oscar-winning song "Let It Go" to No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. She made chart history as the first Tony Award winner for acting to have also notched a top 10 single. (And, the soundtrack to "Frozen" remains 2014's top-selling album, with 2.6 million sold this year, of its 2.9 million to date.) "If/Then" logs the largest sales week for a cast album since the week ending June 19, 2011, when "The Book of Mormon" sold 33,000 in its fifth week of release (following its Tony Award win for best musical). "If/Then" nets the biggest sales debut for a cast effort since "Disney's The Little Mermaid" swam in with 20,000 at No. 26 (week ending March 2, 2008). "Rent," "The Book of Mormon" and "If/Then" are three of only four cast albums to reach the top 20 of the chart since 1980. The other? "Dreamgirls," which peaked at No. 11 on the chart dated Aug. 21, 1982.

music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart-watch/chart-watch-hers-1s-blake-miranda-201941068.htmlIn the music business, one of the surest signs that a couple is a power couple is that both partners have had #1 albums on The Billboard 200. Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton join the club this week as Lambert's fifth major-label studio album, Platinum, enters the chart at #1. Shelton reached #1 in July 2011 with Red River Blue. The couple was married in May 2011. There are just two other married couples where both partners have landed #1 albums (while they were married to each other). Since they were married in October 1996, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill have each had three #1 albums. Likewise, since they were married in April 2008, Beyonce and Jay Z have each had three #1 albums. There are at least three other cases where husbands and wives each had #1 albums, but not during the time they were married to each other. Bobby Brown had a #1 album in 1989, but he didn't have one in the 15 years he was married to Whitney Houston. Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale both had #1 albums with their groups, No Doubt and Bush, respectively, before they were married in 2002. Avril Lavigne and Nickelback's Chad Kroeger both had #1 albums before they were married in 2012. Lambert's album sold 180K copies in its first week. Impressively, each of Lambert's five studio albums has sold more copies in its first week than the one preceding it. Even so, Lambert's tally is no match for the latest albums by the other two top female country stars. Carrie Underwood's latest album, Blown Away, started with sales of 267K in May 2012. Taylor Swift's latest album, Red, opened with sales of 1,208,000 in October 2012. Trivia notes: Lambert is the second artist with that surname to reach #1. Adam Lambert topped the chart in May 2012 with Trespassing. This is the first album with the word "Platinum" in its title to reach the #1. Slim Thug's Already Platinum hit #2 in July 2005. Platinum also enters Top Country Albums at #1. All five of Lambert's major-label studio albums have topped that chart. Platinum sold 83K digital copies, which puts it at #1 on Top Digital Albums. It's Lambert's first #1 on that chart. Frozen rebounds from #4 to #2. This is the album's 24rd week in the top five. That's the longest run in the top five for a soundtrack from a theatrically-released movie since Whitney Houston's The Bodyguard logged 30 weeks in the top five in 1992-1993. Frozen is #1 on Top Soundtracks for the 28th week. 50 Cent's fifth studio album, Animal Ambition: An Untamed Desire To Win, debuts at #4. The album sold 47K copies, higher than initial projections (35K), but far below the first-week sales (160K) of his previous studio album, 2009's Before I Self Destruct. I took a closer look at the rapper's fall-off in a Chart Watch blog we posted last week. If you missed it, here's a link. Coldplay's Ghost Stories tumbles from #1 to #5 in its third week. It becomes the fifth album (and first by a group or duo) to top the 500K mark in 2014. Three Led Zeppelin albums crowd into the top 10 this week, following the release of deluxe, remastered editions which were curated by Jimmy Page. Led Zeppelin re-enters the chart at #7 (surpassing its original peak position of #10 in May 1969), Led Zeppelin II re-enters at #9 and Led Zeppelin III re-enters at #10. This marks just the second time that an act has had three or more catalog albums in the top 10 simultaneously since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking music sales in 1991. Whitney Houston had three catalog albums in the top 10 for two weeks in February and March 2012, following her death. Two other acts would have accomplished this feat in 2009, but catalog albums were barred from The Billboard 200 at the time. Michael Jackson would have had six albums in the top 10 for two weeks in July 2009, following his death. The Beatles would have had five albums in the top 10 in September 2009, after their catalog was digitally remastered. The Led Zeppelin albums are the top three albums on Top Catalog Albums. These three albums have sold a combined 5,730,000 copies in the U.S. since 1991, when Nielsen SoundScan began tracking music sales. Led Zeppelin is just the fifth album from the 1960s to reach #1 on the catalog chart since 1991. It follows three Beatles albums and the Vince Guaraldi Trio's immortal A Charlie Brown Christmas. The Fault In Our Stars soundtrack rebounds from #18 to #8 in its third week. The movie was #1 at the box-office over the weekend. Charli XCX's "Boom Clap" is a fast-breaking single. It leaps into the top 20 on Hot Digital Songs this week. "Fancy" by Iggy Azalea featuring Charli XCX holds at #1 on Top Digital Songs for the third week (263K). Will it also hold at #1 on the Hot 100 for the third week? I believe it will. You'll find out for sure later today when we post my first of two Chart Watch Songs blogs. Here's a recap of this week's top 10 albums. The Top Five: Miranda Lambert's Platinum debuts at #1 (180K). It's her fourth top 10 album … The Frozen soundtrack rebounds from #4 to #2 in its 28th week (52K). This is its 26th week in the top 10 … Brantley Gilbert's Just As I Am dips from #2 to #3 in its third week (48K) … 50 Cent's Animal Ambition: An Untamed Desire To Win debuts at #4 (47K). It's his sixth top 10 album … Coldplay's Ghost Stories drops from #1 to #5 in its third week (46K). It has been in the top five the entire time … The Second Five: Now 50 holds at #6 for the third week in its fifth week (41K). It has been in the top 10 the entire time … Led Zeppelin's Led Zeppelin re-enters the chart at #7 (37K). This is its second week in the top 10 … The Fault In Our Stars soundtrack rebounds from #18 to #8 in its third week (36K). This is its second week in the top 10… Led Zeppelin's Led Zeppelin II re-enters the chart at #9 (34K). This is its 25th week in the top 10 … Led Zeppelin's Led Zeppelin III re-enters the chart at #10 (32K). This is its 15th week in the top 10. Six albums drop out of the top 10 this week. Mariah Carey's Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse drops from #3 to #18. Austin Mahone's The Secret drops from #5 to #33. The Black Keys's Turn Blue drops from #8 to #13. Michael Jackson's Xscape drops from #7 to #12. Crowder's Neon Steeple dives from #9 to #43. Iggy Azalea's The New Classic drops from #10 to #15. Now Country 7 debuts at #11. Six of the seven volumes have cracked the top 20. The first two cracked the top 10 … Lucy Hale's debut album, Road Between, debuts at #14. She's best known for her role on ABC Family's Pretty Little Liars. The Broadway cast album to If/Then: A New Musical debuts at #19. This is the highest-charting cast album since The Book Of Mormon, which peaked at #3 in June 2012. In the past 40 years, just three other original cast albums have cracked the top 20: Hair (13 weeks at #1 in 1969), Dreamgirls (#11 in August 1982) and Rent (#19 in September 1996). Unlike these other shows, If/Then wasn't even nominated for a Tony as Best Musical, though the show was nominated in two other categories: Best Original Score and Best Actress in a Musical for Idina Menzel. (The star sang "Always Starting Over" on the Tony broadcast). Menzel, of course, is also featured on the week's top movie soundtrack, Frozen. When was the last time someone appeared on both the #1 movie soundtrack and the #1 Broadway cast album the same week? It happened just four weeks ago, when Wicked, which also starred Menzel, last ruled Top Cast Albums. Soundgarden's Superunknown re-enters the chart at #51, in the wake of the release of a 20th Anniversary edition. The album debuted at #1 in March 1994. The album has sold 3,794,000 copies. Here's how it breaks down by configuration: CD, 70%. Cassette, 27%. Digital, 3%. Sam Smith's In The Lonely Hour holds at #1 for the second week on the Official U.K. Albums Chart. The album will enter The Billboard 200 in two weeks. It will compete for #1 with Linkin Park's The Hunting Party and Lana Del Rey's Ultraviolence. Who will come out on top? Place your bets. Elvis Presley's Elvis On Tour returns to #1 on Top Music Videos (3K). The title first topped the chart one year ago this week. Coming Attractions: Look for Jack White's Lazaretto to debut at #1 next week, with sales in the 110K range. Also due: Passenger's Whispers (18K), O.A.R.'s The Rockville LP (17K), Rebelution's Count Me In (15K), The Amity Affliction's Let The Ocean Take Me (15K) and HellYeah's Blood For Blood (13K).

www.billboard.com/biz/articles/news/chart-alert/6121299/chart-moves-lucy-hales-album-debuts-soundgardens-superunknown Chart Moves: Lucy Hale's Album Debuts, Soundgarden's 'Superunknown' ReturnsBy Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles | June 13, 2014 This week on the Billboard 200 albums chart, Miranda Lambert claimed her first No. 1, as "Platinum" bowed with 180,000 sold in the week ending June 8, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It's her fifth top 10 effort overall, and it made Lambert just the 11th female country artist to top the Billboard 200 chart. Outside the top 10, there were a number of movers and shakers -- let's take a closer look at some of them: -- Various Artists, "Now That's What I Call Country 7" - No. 11 - The latest in the "Now"-branded compilation series starts at No. 11 with 30,000 sold. All seven of the numbered volumes in the Now That's What I Call Country series have reached the top 40. In total, the seven volumes -- along with Now's Country Christmas and two Country Ballads albums -- have sold 1.96 million. -- Lucy Hale, "Road Between" - No. 14 - The singer/actress' debut effort launches at No. 14, and also enters at No. 4 on the Top Country Albums chart. On the latter list, it's the year's second-highest bow for a female country soloist's debut album on the genre chart, following Jennifer Nettles' No. 1 debut with "That Girl." -- Austin Mahone, "The Secret" (EP) - No. 33 - Last week's two biggest debuts, Mariah Carey's "Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse" (No. 18 with 16,000) and Mahone's "The Secret" (8,000) tumble by 72 percent and 82 percent, respectively, in their second frames. A week ago, they debuted at Nos. 3 and 5. -- Soundgarden, "Superunknown" - No. 52 - The rock band's best-selling album (3.8 million) returns in a reissued deluxe format, selling 6,000 (up 1,024 percent) and re-entering at No. 52. A super deluxe version of the album debuts at No. 97 with 3,000. -- Taeyang, "Rise" - No. 112 - Taeyang is the third member of the K-pop Big Bang quintet to chart a solo effort on both Heatseekers Albums and World Albums, as Rise launches at No. 1 on each tally. He follows earlier charting efforts from Big Bang's G-Dragon and Seungri. "Rise" also bows at No. 112 on the Billboard 200. -- MeShell Ndegeocello, "Comet Come to Me" - No. 161 - The singer/songwriter makes her eighth Billboard 200 visit, with her highest-charting set since 2003, as Comet Come to Me shoots in with 3,000 sold. On R&B Albums, it starts at No. 11. Ndegeocello's nearly 21-year Billboard chart history began with the song "Dred Loc" in October of 1993. -- Original Broadway Cast Recording, "Violet" - No. 197 - The show, nominated for four Tony Awards, is one of two Broadway cast albums to debut this week. ("If/Then" is the other, at No. 19.) "Violet" garnered its star Sutton Foster her sixth Tony nomination, for actress in a leading role in a musical.

"-- Soundgarden, "Superunknown" - No. 52 - The rock band's best-selling album (3.8 million) returns in a reissued deluxe format, selling 6,000 (up 1,024 percent) and re-entering at No. 52. A super deluxe version of the album debuts at No. 97 with 3,000.
-- MeShell Ndegeocello, "Comet Come to Me" - No. 161 - The singer/songwriter makes her eighth Billboard 200 visit, with her highest-charting set since 2003, as Comet Come to Me shoots in with 3,000 sold."
If not a mistake, lmao at Billboard rounding figures at this sales climate.. Both #97 and #161 sold 3k.

When the figures are that low further down, you'll have that. No. 97 sales could 3,499, which would be 3K rounded, and No. 161 could be 2,501, which also would be 3K rounded. :)

Maybe they should start rounding them to hundreds That would sure help those of us trying to estimate release-to-date sales for albums ;)

Or why not just publish the actuals instead of rounding altogether?
