Yes!! Groups like Weezer, Everclear, No Doubt, Smashing Pumpkins. That's what I used to call of Alternative Rock back in the 90s.

Would be an accomplishment just for this to chart. They don't have a big label anymore and "Memories" peaked at #21.

I liked "Memories" and thought the "Hurley" album was decent. I've actually enjoyed every single Weezer album to date.

Hurley's not really the problem for me. The drop in quality from Pink to Green was noticeable, but the drop from Maladroit to Make Believe was unbearable. I still play the heck out of Blue, Pinkerton and Maladroit and there is not a long span of time that's gone by since 2001 that I don't long for a new great Weezer classic. I will be shocked if this is good.

Green: A+ 2. Raditude: A+ 3. Make Believe: A 4. Blue: A- 5. Maladroit: B+ 6. Pinkerton: B+ 7. Red: B 8. Hurley: B-

Several PDs have listed "Back To The Shack" under their Hot Picks selections, which probably means it's the single. They're also on Republic now.

What other albums are going to be released on September 30th the day the new album comes out? I would like to buy whatever else comes out on that day that will insures it flops.

Wasn't bad live, but as we've seen so often, live performances of new singles can be awful indicators of what the studio version will sound like. As mentioned above as well, the chorus is solid.

Hurley: B- Raditude bothers me because it features that ridiculous Lil Wayne feature...one album after the band mocked the suggestion that they work with Timbaland because he knows how to get to the top of the charts. Don't care for Green outside of "Island in the Sun" and "Photograph," which, sell-out or not, are two of the band's best singles. Blue is obviously the best (every song is a gem) with Pinkerton coming in at a distant second (it's good but definitely overrated to an extent). Maladroit is criminally underrated, while Make Believe and Red are pretty weak. The rest are just there.

I've gotten over Weezer more as time progressed.
Close to my favorite band in 2001, I still enjoy the first three albums. Maladroit was disappointing but had a few gems. I feel that people overreacted about how bad the Make Believe stuff was, Beverly Hills and WAAOD included, and I probably overrated it for the fact, now that I think about it. Red had a great lead single but nothing else even worth adding to an iPod. A few songs on there were just abysmal. Raditude had some bad ideas yet again. Hurley maybe was their best one since Green.
Death to False Metal never should have been released.

Don't expect BTTS to be another "Pork And Beans" which spent 11 weeks at #1 and I don't see it going too far myself. I don't really think other than the little videos that have surfaced on YouTube they won't promote this song and this album as they didn't promote Raditude and Hurley and dropping any traces of both on their tours choosing to play their old music. Had they done this about 5 to 10 years ago I would probably embrace it but everything under Rivers Cuomo's control in the past 5 years has turned out wrong as an example trying to write songs for younger people. This may be the first Weezer album I won't buy and probably will wait until Wal-Mart has it in their $5 stack of CD's.

Here's how Weezer has changed in 20 years. From this: View AttachmentTo this: View AttachmentNot digging Brian Bell's new look or how they let themselves go (looks creepy). What are these, images for ants?

Attachment DeletedNot digging Brian Bell's new look or how they let themselves go (looks creepy). That's how the images came across from my computer to on here. This is from the Entertainment Weekly website so that's how it came out like ants. It's a little bit better image but not by much.

I think "Back To The Shack" has all the ingredients of 90s Weezer. I wanna listen to a clean studio version, but You definately hear Ric Ocasek inspiration throughout the song. The hook of the song reminds me of those from his own solo album, Nexterday. Songs like "Bottom Dollar" with that alt rock feel. What I like about Ric Oasek productions, is that he can cover many styles from rock to pop without even cracking a sweat. That being said. Ric is also a master at writing Pop songs. He is what Paul Mccartney was to the Beatles and what Ryan Tedder is to Pop Music nowadays, so this new Weezer project has all the makings of a bullseye on Alt and crossing over to Pop charts. The only reason it would flop is bad promotion or the "industry" purposely keeping it off the air. It's not like a Dee Jay from alt rock station can just decide to start playing the song. Nowadays you gotta get the ok.

Nowadays you gotta get the ok. Rivers should have written songs like this before now and not writing songs to try to appeal to younger people (Can't Stop Partyin' and I Want My Sex) like he did with Raditude and Hurley. Collobrating with Lil' Wayne, Hayley Williams and Dr. Luke didn't help either. They should have done this album at least 5 to 10 years ago then again we wouldn't have had "Beverly Hills" and "Perfect Situation" either. They could have even done a The Cars' tribute album as they could have done those songs justice but they didn't. It would surprise me if this album makes to #1 but I'm not keeping my hopes up for that. Another thing that may cause this not to go well is that Weezer has been passed by younger groups such as Imagine Dragons, OneRepublic, Bastille, and MAGIC!. Weezer's music doesn't really appeal to older listeners since mostly younger people attend their concerts and the folks who grew up with Blue and Pinkerton are now in the mid 30's to early 40's at the very least.

They did sign with a major label for this album release instead of sticking with Epitaph or another indie label so I'd think they're planning to promote this album more than they did more than the last couple of albums.

Let's hope so. Even though they were on an indie label before when they did Hurley when they were on Geffen with Raditude they didn't promote anything for that other than a couple of TV appearances and they didn't even do a late night TV appearance for Red either. The biggest artists that Republic Records has now is Florida Georgia Line but I'm pretty doubtful that "Back To The Shack" will become another "Cruise" for Weezer.
