People are always saying how much momentum affects a song/album's chart performance in sales and in radio. This seems like the most logical explanation, but could it be something else? Mariah Carey: Had NO momentum going into TEOM from Charmbracelet, yet scored the biggest first week sales of her career and arguably the biggest song. Most would agree that WBT is just a phenomenal song that deserved the right to smash the way it did. But if you think about it, Mariah really didn't have any particular backing on radio even coming off the moderate hit, "Its Like That." JT: Arguably lost all of his momentum following the underperformance of TBTK and TKO, but smashed on radio with NABT. I could go on and on with comparisons but you get the point Is it momentum that drives success within eras or simply releasing the right material?
