Opposite of this thread. Which singles you think should have never been released (for any reason) and should have stayed album tracks.

"I Believe" by George Strait. While I appreciate the message and intentions behind releasing it, it is one of the worst songs off Love Is Everything and lost all momentum for "I Got A Car" and a possible fourth single.

* "Suspicions" - Tim McGraw * "Kristofferson" - Tim McGraw * "Let It Go" - Tim McGraw * "Nothin To Die For" - Tim McGraw (I don't know about you, but I was laughing by the time Curb sent this song to radio)
* "Suspicions" - Tim McGraw (it was so unbelievably dumb to release it, I had to list it again)

"Mockingbird" by Toby and Krystal Keith. Solid cover, and Krystal's a good singer, but this wasn't radio material at all. "Trailerhood" was also a terrible single choice IMO, especially for a lead single, but not a bad song.

Jimmy Wayne - You Are (I like the song, but I felt it was the wrong song to release after 2 top 10s, still say he should have released The Rabbit instead, but I'm over that lol not really) Clay Walker - Jesus Was A Country Boy (one of the few Clay songs I'm not too fond of)

"Dealin'" - Carolina Rain (one of my favorite songs on their only album but it wasn't the right choice for a single and it wasn't overly surprising it couldn't crack the top 60 as this type of song got lost in the summertime shuffle for radio PD's as it got released in July of 2007)
"Banjo Boy" - Ryan Shupe and the Rubberband (they sent this to radio twice. Once in October of 2005, then again in early 2006. "Even Superman" and "Would You Love Me" would have been much better as the second single and way more radio friendly)
"Tonight" - Sara Evans )luckily this didn't kill her momentum as "Real Fine Place" soar to #1, but I still think this was a horrible decision. "Rocking Horse" was an easy choice IMO)

"We Fly By Night" was amazing and easily one of the best songs Gary's ever recorded and that's saying a mouthful. Would have been a guaranteed top 5 single if it lead off his Get Off On The Pain album. "Adaliene" not being a single from that Keith album is unforgivable. Love "Faster Than Angels Fly". As much as I've loved their fun stuff back then, when Kenny and John wrote those serious songs, they nailed many of them ("Holy Water", "I Pray For You", "Live This Life", "Leap Of Faith") I like "Guys Like Me" but "What I Almost Was" was such a great song that would've worked at radio. "Sinners Like Me" was my personal favorite but why did they even bother releasing it if they weren't going to promote it to the fullest which they clearly didn't. I think that Tyler's age was a turn off for some PD's when it came to his debut single. The song you picked was definitely the best song on his unreleased album. "Let The Cowboy Rock" was awful IMO. Almost anything would have been better (another song WYRK added that year instead of "Home Sweet Home"...#bitterstill) I wanted "The Fight" as a single but at that point, the likeness of "Even If It Braeks Your Heart" was a factor. "Skeleton's" would have been a great radio single. To this day I have no idea why they went with "Say Goodnight" I believe Sara said once that "New Hometown" was going to be a single at some point before "Coalmine". Then they went with "You'll Always Be My Baby" for some odd reason. You nailed the Miranda selections. I really enjoy "Spoken Like A Man" but hind sight, it wasn't the best follow up. I don't feel I need to add anything on the Tim single decisions....OK, I guess I do, "Train #10" should. Have. Been. A. Single. >:(

I'll add a more comprehensive list later, but the one that immediately comes to mind is Unbelievable (Ann Marie) by Josh Gracin. Just a dreadful choice that essentially ended his career. All his momentum from We Weren't Crazy was gone in a flash for a song that, while a nice sentiment to his wife, had no business on radio.

Wasn't "Angels Working Overtime" a single anyway? Yes, but he was saying it should've been released in place of "You Still Shake Me," which I couldn't agree with more. That was a terrible single choice and I really believe it derailed the whole era for her. "Absence of the Heart" wasn't all that big, but I feel like she could've had a couple more singles get Top 20 or higher if Shake was left on the album.

Keith Anderson actually had quite a few to me in his short two album stint on Arista and Columbia.
"Three Chord Country And American Rock & Roll" (if it was the album version that would have been fine, but they sent a version with Steven Tyler out to radio and it bombed so unbelievably bad they pulled it within two weeks and put promotion back into "Every Time I Hear Your Name")
"Podunk" ("Plan B" is the one I wanted though I do like "Podunk". The fact that this only got to #33 makes it easier to poke holes in this decision)
"Sunday Morning In America" (don't have your second ever lead single from a sophomore album be well over 4 minutes long)
"Somebody Needs A Hug" ("Adaliene", "Adaliene", "Adaliene", "Adaliene", "Adaliene")
"She Could've Been Mine" (did I mention "Adaliene"?)

I thought "Podunk" was a really good song. It might've done all right had they not had to call a mulligan with TCCAAR&R (although I actually liked the Steven Tyler mix a lot).
"Somebody Needs a Hug" was a misstep though. I remember we had an exchange student when that was released, and when she heard it, she said "it sounds like stripper music".
ETA: "A Country Boy Can Survive (Y2K version)" was a stupid, STUPID choice for a single, much less a lead-off one. (By the by, anyone know why John Anderson didn't get credit for it?)

"Never Mind Me" - Big & Rich
"Between Raising Hell And Amazing Grace" - Big & Rich
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I think Big & Rich had a few bad single choices over the years. "Never Mind Me" is a great song but a horrible single choice. I still think they should've just gone with "8th Of November" second, and then closed the album with "Caught Up In The Moment (not among my favorites from Comin' To Your City, but the most radio friendly upbeat song left)
I've changed my mind about "Between Raising Hell And Amazing Grace". I was happy it was second at first, but now I see it was a misstep. "Radio" should have been second, and then perhaps "Between Raising Hell And Amazing Grace" third. "Faster Than Angels Fly" was superb but I think that may have flown over radio PD's heads. I wonder how well "You Shook Me All Night Long" would have done...

^ I would've loved to see "Leap of Faith" as a single off B&R's second album. Did the third album have any good uptempos? I thought "Loud" was terrible.
Thought of another one: "Did I Shave My Legs for This?" by Deana Carter. Great song, terrible single choice. Too jokey for most PD's I assume.

"Radio" was the one and only good uptempo from that album. Good instrumentation and catchy, but it was the radio friendly catchy to me. "Leap Of Faith" is one of my all-time favorite Big & Rich songs, but I'm torn on how well it might have done at radio. If it were a single, there would have to be a radio edit, as the song is about 5 minutes long. Knowing that "Never Mind Me" only got to #32 on R&R, I guess "Leap Of Faith" would have been nice to see get a shot. Also agree on "Did I Shave My Legs For This?". A few more. "This Is The Life' - Billy Dean ("Swinging For The Fence" would have gone at least top 20 if it was the follow up to "Let Them Be Little" instead of being relegated to the final single and being released what seemed like a decade after "Race You To The Bottom" peaked) "Good People' - Jeff Bates (I really like this song but it was just not a lead single worthy song) "That Scares Me" - Van Zant (another "not a lead single type song". "Goes Down Easy" would have peaked much higher IMO and would have been out during the summertime in 2007)

"Hope on the Rocks" was a great single IMO. I think his problem was releasing so many alcohol-themed songs in a row. "Shut Up and Hold On" was terrible, though.

"I'll Die Tryin'" by Lonestar never should have seen the light of day. It basically put a bullet into the Comin' Home era. I think radio was along my line of thinking, in that it was so painfully slow and uninteresting. Peaked at #39 on R&R due to a house cleaning the week before. But it would fall like a rock afterwards.
"My Little Girl" by Tim also should have remained an album track. Unfortunately the Flicka movie was probably the deciding factor. Shame too because "I've Got Friends That Do" was one of my favorite songs he's ever recorded.

Rascal Flatts- Summer Nights- Cheesy, campy, high school musical- esq mess Miranda Lambert- Over You I like this song a lot, but man there were several better options from FTR Trace Adkins- Hot Mama Just...ugh Toby Keith- Made In America Terrible, obnoxious single choice
