It just lost a lot because of how tight the charts are right now. Has there always been this tight a chart at Country radio?

^We actually just had a big clean-out on the charts. I'd say these charts right now are the least tight they've been in several months. There's no reason why Canaan's song should be struggling so badly. It's absolutely a phenomenon.

And just like that, this has gone recurrent, peaking at #41. Weird how it just hit a brick wall, and then started to plummet.

This had such a strange run, hopefully Mercury puts something else out quickly as he was connecting in terms of sales. If they don't act quickly they may as well just drop him. Especially if they plan to wait as long as they did last time.

Not surprised this went recurrent considering the strange drop in audience it had after it appeared to be benefiting from its high digital sales. It actually retained its bullet on MB this week (barely) but with zero adds and the sudden drop in audience I think this was correctly sent recurrent tonight on Billboard as I don't find it doing anything else on MB.
To say this entire chart run was just strange would be a vast understatement. First Mercury waits two years between his debut and his sophomore single. Then the song takes forever in the 50's, spinning its tires. Then it seems to have found its way and looks like a sure thing to make the top 40, and now it sputters backwards and now goes recurrent. Not to mention the phenomenon that was its oddly high sales.

Well Billboard decided to allow re-entry to "Love You Like That" this week at #46 with a 247k gain in audience. One of two in fact with The Railers "Kind Of Dig The Feeling" being the other.
I still think it doesn't matter. This song's been treading water for most weeks during its MB chart run and I don't see this taking off as this re-entry is just delaying the inevitable.

I heard this song for the first time this morning on one of my local radio stations. There's no reason this song shouldn't be a hit but with so many great songs on radio right now and him being a new artist this song is going to struggle. I usually don't download a song unless it's a top 40 hit on Billboard Country Airplay but after hearing this it was a must have!

It will continue to move too. It sells for a song in its placement, it's beloved on The Highway (It was a #1 on the Hot 45 Countdown for multiple weeks) and that only bodes well for an artist I called one to watch in like 2012.

I don't know why I slept on this for so long, but I finally got around to listening to this and I really like it a lot. I'm glad I checked it out, because this is a good song and he has a very nice voice. On top of all that, this guy is incredibly good looking and that only helped me enjoy this even more, lol. I'm ready for this to take those solid digital sales and start to blow up on radio.

24th week on the chart for "Love You Like That" and it's finally gaining some momentum. It's up over 800k in audience on MB since Sunday and over 200k today alone. It's currently in the top 30 of country song sales on iTunes and 153rd overall so its continued it's surprisingly strong sales despite its ridiculously slow climb. It shouldn't jump higher this week since Zac Brown Band and the OTV's A Thousand Horses are closing in fast but it still is looking good for this song. I don't know how much longer this one can stay alive but it may be a while before Mercury decides to call it quits.
As for the song itself, nothing's changed for me. I've tried a few times to have this one grow on me but I just can't get into it. The cliche lyrics are absolutely painful to listen to. I'm not a particularly fond of Canaan's vocals but it's not a huge problem. This song is just one cliche lyric after another; from the Mississippi River to a fifth of whiskey to a Tom Petty track, there's nothing original in the lyrics or melody that makes me crave this song. I still can't believe how incredibly well this has sold.
The Highway plays the living you know what out of it too.

Monday's Billboard update mentioned Stapleton's upcoming album in their preview of new artists' albums expected to be released in the first half of 2015. From Billboard: ** Anyway, back to Canaan...like sabre14 said, "Love You Like That" is starting to pick up some steam here. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see this one last for 40+ weeks on the chart and eventually make the top 20. Given the digital sales for this track, that would likely be enough for Mercury to release Canaan's debut album. A month or two ago, I wouldn't have thought that was possible, but this song is definitely starting to show signs of life and I now think it will be able to turn into a moderate hit.

I also think this is painfully bland. I've heard it six times and I can't remember a single thing about it. Totally unnemorable.

But sometimes in country music, the safe songs get honored for doing so. There's nothing offensive about it, so radio really has no reason not to play it, especially when it's doing quite well in sales. It won't be a future classic, but in the current scheme of the genre, it hits that sweet spot radio and labels love to be in.

The sales have been excellent considering how many weeks this burned in the 50's and 40's so obviously people really enjoy it, but I just can't find it in me to like this. It's so blah. The lyrics. The melody. The sound. There's nothing memorable in my eyes with this song. But radio does like the safe and simple approach (see "Don't It" - another I find bland). Canaan seems like a great guy and he has plenty of fans already but this song is a station changer.

I simply dislike it because I hate the line "I could never do it like a pretty city boy" seriously quit telling us how country you are we get it. As someone who lives in New York, it makes me angry since I always feel as if these types of songs are directed at me. Ok, maybe I don't live near a dirt road, have never driven a tractor or hunted or anything. So what? Country is something you feel, its not measured by your accompanying accessories.

Saw this guy play last night.. didn't look very country to me with his leather jacket and obey baseball cap. Decent set but kinda rubbed me the wrong way when he told the crowd to shut up multiple times like he was some sort of superstar that deserved everyone's undivided attention or something.

I simply dislike it because I hate the line "I could never do it like a pretty city boy" I absolutely hate that line as well. The lyrics as a whole are pretty bland and forgettable (as many others have said), but the "pretty city boy" line is just downright awful and it sounds really out of place as well, not to mention the fact that it's pretty darned offensive. This song was selling well when it was basically just getting played on The Highway. I think it's already near 200k sold, which means it'll probably go Gold even if it 'only' peaks top 20 at radio. I'm guessing Canaan just has a decent amount of followers on social media from his time on TV (Amazing Race if I remember correctly), and he also seems to be one of those types that the fangirls flock to regardless of musical quality...although I suppose it's possible they do like his music. I certainly haven't heard anything from him yet that I enjoy. In the words of his label-mate Shania Twain, "that don't impress me much!"

The Cumulus block added this one this week and "Love You Like That" moves to #34 on MB and is at #34 on Billboard after 27 weeks (5.8 in total audience). "Girl Crush" and "I'm To Blame" are the only other two songs from #26 to #50 on MB selling better than this one and Canaan's sales have really been good to great for the entirety of its chart run. I agree with jhomes87 that this is probably due to Canaan's social media following and past exposure on The Amazing Race. People seem to already be interested in his music even if I find it completely underwhelming. I expect this to last around the +40 week mark and reach at least the top 25 if not top 20. Bummer since I can't stand this song and The Highway has already played the living heck out of it for some time.

Canaan recently did a interview with countrymusicrocks.net and he gave some insight on "Love You Like That", his tour with Dan + Shay and his label's commitment to his current single's chart peak. But I thought this quote was interesting: "'Love You Like That' is an upbeat love song. It's a love song but it's got balls to it. I feel like with the girls, it's what is turning them on & drawn to the song, and the guys can sing along without feeling feeling like a wuss! It's a man's love song, it's strong like whiskey" Country Music Rocks InterviewI personally dislike the song even more now.

This is finally in the Top 30. I wonder how long more they will push this? Considering this has already spent 31 weeks on the chart. Really, I don't want this to be another "Outta My Head"

Also, I am indifferent to this song. It's not bad, but it isn't very good either. I also agree with some of the posters that the lyrics weigh this song down. Seriously, rhyming 'boy' with 'boy'?

Really, I don't want this to be another "Outta My Head" Well Craig's lasted over 50 weeks (second longest chart run in modern history) so Canaan still has quite a ways to go for that mark. "Love You Like That" will most likely go top 20, possibly top 15. It's up another 545k today and over 1.5 million for the week so far. Its sales have of course been the story for the duration of its chart run as they have been terrific, especially when it was struggling in the 50's and 40's. Mercury will push this for another two months or so, perhaps a little longer; which again, stinks for people like me since I really dislike this one.

This is still selling like a strong #1. I can see this hanging on for a 50-week climb to the top of the charts. It took a while for radio to catch on for whatever reason but the listeners seem to be speaking in favor of this song, which is ultimately going to carry this up the charts.

I'm not so sure about a #1 peak but top 10 I could see, depending on if its airplay can continue to gain its pace. Even though long chart runs have become the norm, +50 stays are still a huge accomplishment. It all depends on if this song hits any sort of snag in airplay gains at any point from now (unlikely) to the top 10. Every song hits a burn rate with radio, even with good sales and a strong label. I can see top 10, but #1 with a record stay chart run is very hard to imagine.

I really really love the groove of this song, I just wish the lyrics were a bit stronger. I'd love for this to be a top 10 hit though because I'd like to hear more material from Canaan, which means this needs to be a hit to get his album out.

This song will definitely get the album out even if it doesn't go top 10. Even if this "only" peaks somewhere in the top 20, the strong track sales and above average showing on the airplay chart will be more than enough for UMG to release his debut album. I bet they've been just been sitting back, really pleased with how well this one has been selling. I think Easton Corbin's song will do well enough that his album should come out too, and of course we already have a confirmed release date for debut albums for Kelsea Ballerini, A Thousand Horses, and Maddie & Tae.
