I like the song but will radio embrace the duo enough to get the message home? This is no "game-changing" record, I do see some success here but I doubt this is a top 10 or better record, no matter how on point it's lyric content is.

Man I can't wait to quote your post again in about 20-30 weeks!! When this is on top looking down. Mus1cr0w This doesn't seem needed. Rsmatto is giving a fair and balanced opinion. Many of us here have been wrong before about predictions. Maybe he will be wrong about this song or maybe you will. No need to bring that kind of hostility to the table.

That awkward moment when there was absolutely no hostility in that post whatsoever and there was nothing wrong with what mus1cr0w had said. But, whatever.
Can't wait to see how well this song does. The reception it's gotten online in the past 24 hours has been stellar, and that makes me hopeful.

I like the message that "GIACS" is getting across, but some of the lyrics seem a little out of place ("It’s driving me red red red red red red redneck crazy" just doesn't flow IMO). However, I really hope this song makes a splash and can get people to notice Madde & Tae. Thanks for sharing the video, watching the EPK gave me goosebumps and makes me want to hear more from the girls! Their influences excite me (the Dixie Chicks are some of my all-time favorite artists and adore their lyrics/sound), and I was honestly relieved that they didn't cite Taylor Swift as an influence. To me that shows that younger artists still have respect for artists that were around before their time, plus can expect a different sound/approach from these girls (Taylor is known for her songs about relationships, these girls seem like they aren't focusing on that as much).

Naaah..you know what... if you're going to state in absolutes that "this is no game changer" ill state that I think you are wrong..this the game changer.
That way there's one voice each way! :)

Yeah, I get I am not liked here for whatever reasons, but I am not afraid to speak my mind despite it being an unpopular opinion. There was hostility in the post and I see it had been deleted now, Aiden. I also find it hilarious that people over the age of 12 still use the phrase, "that awkward moment." A simple, "I don't know... I think this is going to be huge and make some changes. You may be right, but I feel confident." Is so much nicer (therefore, less hostile) then, "Can't wait to prove you wrong."

That's #1. #2, I don't recall mus1cr0w ever once telling you to adjust your posts or posting styles, so I don't know where you think you can get off doing it to him (as well as others). #3, I find it even more hilarious that a person who walks around with a holier-than-thou attitude (you) has the nerve to belittle me when you just stated the truth: not many people around here like you, myself undoubtedly included. You better check yourself before you attack me personally one more time before I have a REAL mod (which isn't what you are, surprise, surprise!) escort you out of here. I'll take my very much ADULT self back to a conversation that involves people being able to express their opinions without people like you trying to have them adjust it for the sake of their own personal liking. #4, just because you think people should post a certain way doesn't mean they have to and doesn't mean they will. Know your place because you are so, so far outside of it right now. I don't want you detailing the thread anymore than you already have, so let's get back to this great song! I hope it goes Top 10 so mus1cr0w's opinion can be spot on!

Please stop, people. Let us get back to the discussion of Maddie & Tae. I think that Dot, being a part of Big Machine will really push hard to get this new duo a hit. Scott Borchetta did not decide to resurrect an old label for nothing.

I think these girls are so talented and hopefully have a bright future ahead of them regardless of how this does on the charts. I love that they can take a risk like this!

I really like the lyrics, and the production is pretty good...until it gets to the wall-of-sound chorus. Yikes. Other over-produced songs have become favorites of mine over time though (after many listens on the radio) so perhaps this will too, but I just hate that I have to try so hard to decipher what they are singing in the chorus. They have great, great voices too, so it's a bit frustrating that they're buried behind a wall of sound at times. But overall I still give this a solid A. I just need more time to digest the lyrics. I actually really like the production throughout the whole song. Yes, it does escalate and get louder in the chorus, but it does so appropriately. It feels like a natural progression in the song, at least for me. I also don't have any problem understanding the lyrics. I just think the whole song is pretty perfect.

The depressing irony in all that being I really think it's been women buying the Luke Bryan and FGL songs and concert tickets, not guys for the most part.
I admire the attempt with this song to reject all that, but topic-wise it seems a little too insider-stuff to me to see it through to become a mainstream radio hit. Maybe with a live video that has some attitude and takes off virally?
Not sure I like their actual sound as much as the lyrics (or the idea of the lyrics).

Yeah, it's mostly us ladies buying the FGL/Luke/Brantley tickets, but I see a lot of guys at their shows. I like the intent of the song, but it's just not one I support, maybe because I choose to enjoy party country.

It's fine to enjoy it - but you don't need to be objectified to do so. That's all the song is saying.

Fun song. I'm a sucker for this kind of lyrical humor (I even liked Jessie James' John Mayer diss "Dear John"), and there's no denying it's a catchy production. Yes, some of the references are forced (Why try to shoehorn in 'Red Red Red' from "Boys 'Round Here" when you could find plenty of Blake Shelton lyrics that actually fit the song...actually, the same really goes for Farr's Redneck Crazy - its lyrics are lame, but I don't see that song as objectifying women), but it's still clever.
Agree and disagree with those pointing out the irony. It's obviously true that women are the ones making country "bros" and their songs so successful, but that doesn't mean other women can't object to that. And you can view this track as retaliatory not only to the bro country singers but to the women who allow themselves to be exploited (or outright exploit themselves) by country males. I'd imagine the song is designed to be as oppositional to women who flash and throw panties at Luke Bryan as it is Luke Bryan himself.
Where there is some additional irony is in the cynical reality that looking like the male fantasy version of a girl in a country song surely played a role not only in getting them a record deal but also in allowing this song to work. If they were superficially unattractive, people would write this off as "uggos whining" (I mean - I guarantee Christina Aguilera's 'Beautiful' wouldn't have been as successful if sung by Sia).
And even someone like Kacey Musgraves, who made her name as a strong, outspoken woman, is now covering herself in makeup, getting spray tans and wearing the short shorts and barely-there dresses that this song seems to mock
The song also relies on the same clever songwriting approach as Lorde's "Royals." Just like that song, it draws its catchiness from the same sing-along cliches to which it is objecting.

Wow, do I love this song! Thank you Fan O Country music for the listenable link.
So clever, love all the lyrics they make fun of....
I think it sounds good (country, but with an updated sound fitting their youth) and I can also see singing/dancing to it.
Lol, 'riding down a dirt road we don't even want to be on'-that cracked me up. I always wonder just what makes songwriters think girls/women really want to just ride around in a truck on a back road drinking cheap liquor waiting to get it on with someone? Although ok for a rare party moment, that certainly wasn't my goal as far as fun goes at any stage in my life ;) My husband is from a farming town of 500 residents and although sadly the % of pregnant graduating seniors was 15% of their small class it is safe to say none of them would glorify the lifestyle that got them there.
As far as:
"And even someone like Kacey Musgraves, who made her name as a strong, outspoken woman, is now covering herself in makeup, getting spray tans and wearing the short shorts and barely-there dresses that this song seems to mock"
I don't think most people think there is anything wrong with make up, short skirts if you are comfortable in that sort of thing, trying to make yourself attractive (within reason) to the opposite sex-whether it is on the part of males or females. The human race must propagate after all ;) You can be a strong woman and enjoy makeup and clothes-it just shouldn't be what you are solely valued for. It is the objectification and cliches in these songs as well as the language ('slide your ass over here', 'gotta get me some of THAT') that I personally (and I think many others) take issue with.
This is a novelty song for sure like Donkey or Red Solo Cup or Pray for You......but I think because it is clever, sounds good and gently/humorously pokes fun at a front and center issue in Country Music-it could get some decent air play.

"The Chair" and "We Danced" are just 2 examples of brilliant songs about meeting a woman respectfully. Once songwriters and artists start respecting women with those kind of songs again, then I'll call myself a Country fan again. Right now the Country I'm a fan of is an endangered species. Kudos for this brilliant song calling a spade and spade! I hope it pisses off and embarrasses all it's intended to target.

If this song makes a dent in ridding the absolute trash that radio seems to feed off of nowadays, I'll send a gift basket to my local Country radio DJs. And I'll stick around on this board because this is genuinely great music and the stuff that's being played on radio today is the furthest thing from it.

This is absolutely phenomenal. I agree that this will either be HUGE or not do very well at all. All the shade thats thrown in this song makes me so happy as I hate every single song that was mentioned. I will definitely be rooting for this one to become the hit it deserves to be to hopefully wake radio and listeners up that the way women are treated in country music is despicable in many cases today.
Can't wait for this to be on iTunes. Any notice on when that will be?

If this song makes a dent in ridding the absolute trash that radio seems to feed off of nowadays, I'll send a gift basket to my local Country radio DJs. And I'll stick around on this board because this is genuinely great music and the stuff that's being played on radio today is the furthest thing from it. Here's the thing: the beauty of this song (by design) is that it is a bro country song that rips bro country songs. It cleverly uses a contemporary bro/party country beat, a contemporary country melody and actual bro country lyrics to take a shot at the ridiculous and offensive way the genre portrays women. The reason it works--and has a chance of getting airplay--is that it DOES greatly resemble what is on the radio right now. You can't possibly say this is "genuinely great music" but everything else on the radio is the "furthest thing from it" because this literally is the type of stuff being played on the radio. That's the essence of the song! Due that beat alone, it's actually LESS traditionally country than many of the "bro country" songs out there. You can't really even shower specific praise on the lyrics because they're the same lyrics in other songs. They're being twisted to form a parody - and you can applaud the creativity and brilliance of that - but it's not like Maddie and Tae are proving themselves to be uniquely poetic here. And there's no positive, outbound message; it's a criticism rather than a recommendation. This song *IS* what's being played on the radio today. It's just twisted in a unique way.

It's funny that these girls sing about how bad singing about painted on jeans and cut off shorts, yet they sport them and they have the "hot country girl" look. Whatever, though. If this song makes "bro country" and real "fun country" disappear and country goes back to being uncool and boring, I will disappear from this board and I will never listen to boring old country music again.. Brian, I would miss some party and Bro songs too. I loved Cruise- country version only though. I think a lot of the issue is just the shear monopoly/stranglehold of these songs on country radio-decreased variety, with perhaps women singers suffering the most-some truly great songs are ignored over same old 'not really country' hick hop like Chase Rice song and others with mediocre lyrics. And some 'flirty sex play' is fine by me in country songs-the way the girls dress doesn't bother me one bit-but the domination of cliche and women depicted as only a pretty hot sugar shaker (yuck, hate that term with a passion) is just not ok. I highly doubt party country and Bro country will disappear completely, don't worry.
