kanimal, I'm not sure why you leave no room for Maddie & Tae to joke at the expense of "bro country"'s cliches without becoming grim attack dogs about it. Stephen Colbert's Super PAC was, in fact, a giant joke, but it proved to be educational at the same time, to the point that viewers of his show proved to be more knowledgeable on issues of campaign finance, etc., than viewers of network nightly news and cable news. Humor and satire can be educational tools, too. Maddie & Tae have delivered a song with plenty of both, and I don't think emphasizing the fact that they're having "fun" with this undermines the message of the song. In any event, guess which thread got linked by this Atlantic write-up on "Girl in a Country Song"? It's one of many embedded links and the board is not named, but still:We are "audiences"! * waves to fellow Atlantic readers*

Here is a link to today's radio tour performance of "Smoke," one of the songs featured in their EPK. www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMXgbxe5XcQTheir vocals sound beautiful in the chorus. I might like this track even more than GIACS, which I really love. I'm not trying to get off the topic of the song this thread is intended for, but, together, both of these songs make me feel hopeful for their success :)

They also sang a song called "Sierra", sounded a little like Kacey Musgraves.

Listened to the song for the first time and I love it! Love the sound the girls have, I get this Miranda and Kacey type feel from it. I think they have the right people behind them that they can help push this song and start to put an end to this bro country movement.

Officially for sale on iTunes and streaming on Google Play (I'm assuming Spotify as well?). Feel like this is going to get way too many plays from me on the commute tomorrow.

Maggie and her team are going to have to pull out all the stops on this in order to outpace the juggernaut that is big machine/dot/universal. In my opinion, Maddie and Tae's song is worlds better, has huge muscle behind it (not to mention this is dot's first single), and m&ts fans seem much more passionate. If I had to guess... maddie and tae will have a multiple week #1 while helping maggie rose to a top 20 finish based on publicity. Mus1cr0w

Mus1cr0w I don't know why you think most people will compare the two, other than they both have "The Girl in ... Song" in the title. The songs are CLEARLY different and have different motivations. I don't need to rehash the whole "multiple week #1 thing here" because I know you think that M&T are Country music's "Saviors" and I don't. Maggie's team doesn't have BMLG's muscle (Universal $$ as partners in the Dot endeavor) but they DO have plenty of $$ behind her. I am still skeptical that radio will fully embrace this song and that's because the girls who listen to Country are more like Maggie Rose's character in her song, they want to BE the girl in those songs.

18 adds over a week before add date?
Yeah, seems like radio is having a real hard time warming up to Maddie&Tae!
Your money outline above is exactly why I predicted the outcome I did... sure maggie has money.. universal has more.

We'll see in 6 months whether it hit #1 like predicted by you. I think it'll likely struggle to hit #1. Top 10, maybe. It's still the first song from a NEW flagship artist on a new label. I don't even think Chris Stacey and Scott Borchetta expect the song to go Top 10 or #1. They expect it to make waves to help set up the duo and the label for future successes. THAT's what I see this one doing.

Just heard this. LOVE that it's taking a stab at "bro country." I want this to smash.
One of the girls kind of has a Miranda Lambert twang to her voice. I like that.

I am curious to see if this song will launch a career or just be a possible "One Hit Wonder." Time will tell.

Which has been said about EVERY newcomer since, well, ever! I believe you are correct But how many have tried to launch a career with a first single some see as a novelty/gimmicky song that even borrows production from a song it is attempting to parody? I could honestly see this going either way. At first, I think it will sell well & get some early stations on the bandwagon, but then the song will have to survive on its own. It doesn't have the benefit of a big name singing it, which helps more established acts chart well even with a so-so song.

Yeah, I'm not big on the whole "Let me completely slam you and then apologize and fangirl over you" schtick, but it's what they may have to do in order to keep the momentum they have going. It doesn't look good on newbies coming out of the gate swinging at other artists that are all far, far bigger than them.

I'm not enjoying the way they're being so PC about the whole thing. I understand not wanting to be abrasive and make enemies right out of the gate, but I feel like they could maybe try to find some middle ground in there. Unless they really don't care strongly about the song's message, which would disappoint me.
