I think Happy will drop below Dark Horse this week. Goodbye to any chance of year-end #1...fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu! :'( I don't even get how Dark Horse is still in the top 15 after being there since January! Like how has it not fallen out of the top 25 by now? The video has long ago lost its steam and the song is barely in the top 75 on iTunes...I hope it drops faster than Happy now so that Happy would be the one to top the year-end chart...

I'm still shocked Iggy released something other than Work as the second single. Clearly the general public in the US is more interested in this song than the Rita Ora song. I'm not sure what they were thinking. Based on...?

Edit: Actually, just noticed it's #4 on the YouTube chart. It's not on VEVO, which is kinda surprising, but that would explain why it's not on VEVO's charts yet still so high in streaming. It's also #7 on on-demand services. This one I can explain. On Youtube at least, Jason Derulo has always had a personally named channel which has all the music videos, teasers, and bonus stuff, and is nice and open to everybody, even old mobile users (Why do I know this? My iPod touch is pretty old, and I liked iOs 4 and its YouTube app too much to update) Anyway, my predictions (based more on momentum and extrapolation than others, so don't expect at least half of this to be true): TOP TWENTY 1. Rude (~2% lead) 2. Fancy 3. Am I Wrong (Gaining radio momentum) 4. Problem 5. Stay With Me 6. Summer 7. Maps 8. Wiggle 9. All of Me 10. Dirt 11. Latch (I don't want this to be true, but if Dirt is big enough...) 12. Turn Down for What 13. Happy 14. Chandelier (Don't forget the album momentum effect!) 15. Dark Horse 16. Classic (Still a growth in chart points, but Dirt had a sales boom) 17. Love Runs Out 18. Ain't it Fun 19. American Kids (Having a nice climb on streaming and sales) 20. Break Free (Radio can keep it relatively steady, but not #15 steady) DEBUTS About the Money BO$$ Dust Fight Night (One week then gone, hopefully) Sunshine & Whiskey Waves RE-ENTRY The Big Bang (One week then gone, but boosted from the music video) FALLING OFF Amnesia (If not, then somewhere from 80-100) Best Day of My Life (Recurrent) Timber (Recurrent) La La La (Recurrent) Lettin' the Night Roll Life of the Party Don't (Maybe 1 more week if it's lucky) Calm Down (No buzz about this one at all as far as I can tell) Keep Those Kisses Comin' First Love

If Dirt IS top 10 this week, then it would be the first country song to go top 10 without Pop radio support since Jason Aldean's Dirt Road Anthem in 2011.

www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6157709/sia-1000-forms-of-fear-billboard-200-soundscan-chandelierOver on the Digital Songs chart, Magic's "Rude" regains the No. 1 slot, rising 2-1 with 185,000 (up 3 percent), but there's a brand-new entry at No. 2 nipping at Magic's heels. Florida Georgia Line's "Dirt" secures the chart's highest debut, starting at No. 2 with 182,000. That's the largest sales week for a country digital song in a year, since Florida Georgia Line's own "Cruise" sold 193,000 downloads in the week ending July 7, 2013. "Dirt" tallies the biggest debut for a country song since the week ending Oct. 7, 2012 when Taylor Swift's "Red" started with 312,000. "Dirt" is the first single from the duo's forthcoming new studio album, due for release later this year. Sam Smith's "Stay With Me" falls 1-3 with 162,000 (down 12 percent); Iggy Azalea's "Fancy," featuring Charli XCX, descends 3-4 with 154,000 (down 10 percent); and Ariana Grande's "Problem," featuring Azalea, climbs 6-5 with 124,000 (down 15 percent). Nico & Vinz's "Am I Wrong" rises 7-6 with 111,000 (down 12 percent), Maroon 5's "Maps" ascends 9-7 with 105,000 (up 1 percent), and Charli XCX's "Boom Clap" jumps 10-8 with 100,000 (up 3 percent). Jason Derulo's "Wiggle," featuring Snoop Dogg, falls 8-9 with 90,000 (down 25 percent), and Grande's "Break Free," featuring Zedd, tumbles 5-10 with 86,000 (down 47 percent). Digital track sales this past week totaled 20.3 million downloads, down 5 percent compared with last week (21.3 million) and down 11 percent stacked next to the comparable week of 2013 (22.8 million). Year-to-date track sales are at 635.1 million, down 13 percent compared with the same total at this point last year (729.4 million).

Digital Songs 1. Rude 185,000 (1,407,000) (this total only includes the sales since it entered the top 10 of Digital Songs) 2. Dirt 182,000 (debut) 3. Stay With Me 162,000 (1,568,000) 4. Fancy 154,000 (2,878,000) 5. Problem 124,000 (2,433,000) 6. Am I Wrong 111,000 7. Maps 105,000 (451,000) 8. Boom Clap 100,000 (584,000) 9. Wiggle 90,000 (1,268,000) 10. Break Free 86,000 (247,000)
The biggest seller in the list is still below 3 million . "Payphone" sold 493K on its first week. "Maps" is still below that after 4 weeks.

www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6157715/magic-rude-hot-100-iggy-azalea-fancy-sam-smith-disclosure-latchMAGIC!'s 'Rude' Tops Hot 100; Iggy Azalea's 'Fancy' Falls to No. 2By Gary Trust, New York | July 16, 2014 12:06 PM EDT The Canadian pop/reggae group ends Iggy Azalea's seven-week reign with 'Fancy.' Plus, Disclosure's 'Latch,' featuring Sam Smith, reaches the top 10 Maybe this will finally impress the father in the song? MAGIC!'s "Rude," the Canadian pop/reggae group's tale of a groom-to-be who won't be denied, regardless of his potential father-in-law's disapproval, adds to the protagonist's case as it rises 2-1 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Rude" dethrones Iggy Azalea's "Fancy," featuring Charli XCX, after seven weeks at No. 1, as the latter drops to No. 2. Meanwhile, Disclosure's "Latch," featuring Sam Smith, enters the top 10, climbing 11-10. Let's kick off our weekly rundown of the Hot 100's top 10 and more with highlights of MAGIC!'s coronation. No 'reg'-ular No. 1: "Rude" (the 1,037th Hot 100 No. 1 all-time) brings reggae stylings back to the chart's summit, marking a rarity. Other reggae rulers in the Hot 100's nearly 56-year history: Sean Paul's "Get Busy" (2003); Shaggy's "It Wasn't Me" and "Angel" (both in 2001); Ini Kamoze's "Here Comes the Hotstepper" (1994); fellow Canadian Snow's "Informer" (1993); Maxi Priest's "Close to You" (1990); Eric Clapton's "I Shot the Sheriff," written by reggae king Bob Marley (1974); and Johnny Nash's "I Can See Clearly Now" (1972). (Reader, and Canada's own, Blair Buchta, recently pointed out in an email that "Israelites" by Desmond Dekker & the Aces was one of the first reggae hits to reach the top 10, rising to No. 9 in 1969.) Canada can: The ascent of "Rude" to No. 1 marks the first time in more than 12 years that a Canadian band (all four members of MAGIC! are from the Toronto area) has topped the Hot 100. Nickelback began a four-week command with "How You Remind Me" the week of Dec. 22, 2001. Other Canadian bands to control the Hot 100: Barenaked Ladies ("One Week," 1998), Sheriff ("When I'm With You," 1989), Bachman-Turner Overdrive ("You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet," 1974) and the Guess Who (the Stateside-themed "American Woman"). Nasri No. 1: MAGIC! frontman Nasri Atweh joins his bandmates in their first visit to the Hot 100's summit, but he'd previously reached the top 10 as a co-writer on three songs. Fellow Canadian Justin Bieber's "Never Say Never" reached No. 8 in 2011 (featuring Jaden Smith) and "As Long as You Love Me" (featuring Big Sean) climbed to No. 6 in 2012. Atweh scored his third top 10 writing credit when Pitbull's "Feel This Moment" rose to No. 8 last year. Atweh made his Hot 100 debut as a writer on New Kids on the Block's "Summertime," which reached No. 36 in 2008. Oh, oh, it's 'Magic': "Magic" becomes the first word to serve as the title of a No. 1 Hot 100 song and an act with a Hot 100 leader (excluding the exclamation point at the end of the band's name β¦) Olivia Newton-John spent four weeks at No. 1 in 1980 with her song "Magic." (Reader Jeff Lerner first pointed out the potential doubling up in last week's "Ask Billboard" reader mailbag. Honorable mention to Mariah Carey's "Emotions" and the group The Emotions, whose "Best of My Love" led for five weeks at No. 1 in 1977.) 'Rude'-ness rewarded: Of the approximately 26,000 songs ever to hit the Hot 100, only two have included the word "rude" in their titles β¦ and both have reached No. 1. Rihanna's "Rude Boy" charged to No. 1 for five weeks in 2010. (Just one such act has hit the Hot 100, and "rude" was its middle name: The Rude Boys' "Written All Over Your Face" peaked at No. 16. Starting the trend of "rude" hits scoring chart success, the song topped Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for a week in 1991 and won the Billboard Music Award for No. 1 R&B single that year.) How did "Rude" rise to the top of the Hot 100? It rebounds 2-1 (after two weeks at No. 2) for a second week atop Digital Songs with 185,000 downloads sold (up 3 percent) in the week ending July 13, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It pushes 4-2 on Radio Songs with a 9 percent surge to 152 million all-format audience impressions and lifts 3-2 on Streaming Songs, up by 8 percent to 8.3 million U.S. streams, according to Nielsen BDS. "Rude" concurrently crowns the subscription services-based On-Demand Songs chart, climbing 2-1 (3.3 million on-demand streams, up 8 percent). "Rude" narrowly takes over the Hot 100's top spot: it gains by 2 percent in overall points, while "Fancy" decreases by 5 percent. "Rude," thus, wins the race to No. 1 by a mere 1 percent points margin. Last week, "Fancy" held a 6 percent advantage over "Rude." Now, where were we before we were so "Rude"-ly interrupted? Ah, Iggy Azalea. "Fancy" falls to No. 2 on the Hot 100, although it leads Streaming Songs a ninth week (10.6 million, down 1 percent). It dips 3-4 on both Radio Songs (138 million, down 5 percent) and Digital Songs (154,000, down 10 percent); it led the lists for three and four weeks, respectively. Meanwhile, "Fancy" tops Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for an eighth week and Hot Rap Songs for a 13th frame. Despite their drop from the top, both Azalea and Charli XCX charge ahead on the Hot 100 with follow-up singles. Azalea's "Black Widow," featuring Rita Ora, vaults 97-65 as the chart's top Digital Gainer (41,000, up 118 percent), while Charli XCX's "Boom Clap" climbs 20-16, led by a 10-8 lift on Digital Songs (100,000, up 3 percent). Ariana Grande's "Problem," featuring Azalea, holds at No. 3 on the Hot 100 for a third week after peaking at No. 2 for five weeks, while Nico & Vinz's "Am I Wrong" is stationary at its No. 4 peak to date. The latter leads Radio Songs for a second week (160 million, up 6 percent) and, as previously reported, rises 2-1 on Pop Songs and rules Adult Pop Songs for a third week. Sam Smith stays at his No. 5 highpoint on the Hot 100 with "Stay With Me," which adds top Airplay Gainer honors. It bullets at No. 5 on Radio Songs for a second week with a 13 percent increase to 125 million. On Streaming Songs, it soars 24-15 (3.5 million, up 27 percent). Jason Derulo's "Wiggle," featuring Snoop Dogg, is a non-mover at No. 6 on the Hot 100 and John Legend's former three-week No. 1 "All of Me" reverses course (8-7). Maroon 5's "Maps" moves 9-8 on the Hot 100, highlighted by a 9-7 push on Digital Songs (105,000, up 1 percent) and a 12-9 ascent on Radio Songs (65 million, up 11 percent). The band tallies its ninth Radio Songs top 10, tying TLC for the second best total among groups. Destiny's Child leads all groups with 10 Radio Songs top 10s dating to the chart's December 1990 launch. Calvin Harris' "Summer" slips from its No. 7 Hot 100 high to No. 9. Still, it dominates the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart for a fourth week. Smith, meanwhile, scores his second Hot 100 top 10, as Disclosure's "Latch," on which he's the featured vocalist, rises 11-10. With airplay accounting for the majority (45 percent) of its chart points, it holds at No. 8 on Radio Songs (85 million, up 7 percent) and No. 11 on Digital Songs (82,000, down 9 percent), while rising 27-26 on Streaming Songs (2.8 million, up 5 percent). "We thought 'Latch' was too weird for the radio and not clubby enough for the clubs," the duo's Guy Lawrence revealed in the July 5 Billboard cover story. (Younger brother Howard rounds out the pair.) "It's in 6/8 time, not even 4/4, which is house's tempo. "'Latch' is just β¦ a strange song that people like." Visit Billboard.com tomorrow (July 17), when all rankings, including the Hot 100 in its entirety and Digital Songs, Radio Songs and Streaming Songs, will refresh, as they do each Thursday. The latest charts will also appear in the next issue of Billboard magazine (on sale on Friday, July 18).

Ugh finally Latch enters the top 10!! It's rare for a UK artist to peak higher in the US than they did in their own country. I can only think of "Lights" by Ellie Goulding as a recent example...

^That's what I've been saying. Where all the big names? It's like the music industry is sabotaging itself! To be fair, most of the biggest summer hits the past three years have came from newbies*: Call Me Maybe, Party Rock Anthem, Rolling in the Deep, Somebody That I Used to Know, Blurred Lines *Or, at least, someone who never really had a big hit prior.

The only way "Dark Horse" would deserve the year-end No. 1 is if it accumulated the most chart points for its Hot 100 run during the period covered.

I really wasn't talking about summer hits. If you look at the songs going for radio adds, it's a bunch of unknowns. The big names should be out in August with new singles for the Fall albums. (We got Roar and Applause last August.)

I think you are forgetting this iconic and obviously meaningful melody:

How do the streaming and on-demand levels for this summer's top tracks compare to those of previous years?
I ask because Fancy, Rude, Problem and Am I Wrong have received blockbuster levels of exposure, and Sam Smith has received monster levels of buzz. Reviews and fan reaction are largely strong as well. So there's no obvious excuse for the low weekly sales figures.
You can't just use the big name argument because, as others have mentioned, the last few "songs of the summer" came from people without names.
Wondering if the (presumed) rise of streaming, particularly mechanisms like Spotify, is playing any sort of role.

The big names should be out in August with new singles for the Fall albums. (We got Roar and Applause last August.) Were they announced that far in advance? I think Roar was revealed 5 weeks before it was released and Applause like 8 or something? So... I guess this time last year, we knew Roar and Applause were on the way. But I'm of the impression (or at least I think they should!) that artists/labels are trying to do a more of the spur of the moment thing now. Since Beyonce, but also since Gaga and others played the hype game too much and too hard that it's almost better to announce and release a short time later rather than announcing, and then waiting weeks or even months before releasing.
