Wasn't it also because that's right before Billboard started including iTunes sales? With more songs eligible for sales points, it was harder for those God awful coronation singles to reach the top.

Wow, didn't realize Heartless was blocked by another rap single "Crack A Bottle"... Crack A Bottle isn't even remembered in Eminem's discography.

Heartless would've jumped 3-1 that week, it'd be nice if he scored a #1 single from 808s & Heartbreak.

I didn't even realize that was a coronation song. It's the only one that I can remember having any sort of actual success outside of the show ending, apart from a Moment Like This.

No, digital sales were added to the Hot 100 in February of 2005, before the release of either "Inside Your Heaven" or "Do I Make You Proud" (both reached #1). To be fair, digital sales weren't that strong then, but the physical-to-digital conversion didn't immediately end coronation songs going to the top. And those songs had the same chance for strong digital sales as any other song, but the show's ratings began eroding not too long after that.

So, here are my predictions for the week:

-Rude will top

-Stay With Me will be #2 or #3

-Am I Wrong will be #3 or #4

-Wiggle and Summer will be off top 10

-Chandelier and Boom Clap will enter the top 10

-Break Free will re-enter top 20

-Everything I Didn't Say will be gone; either that, or half of the promo singles re-enter

-Really Don't Care will enter top 20

-Word Crimes will fall to the 60s or 70s

-This is How We Roll and Best Day of My Life will go recurrent

-All About That Bass and Come Get it Bae will be top 40 at the very least next week

-Dare (La La La) will crash

-Trophies has a 99.9999% chance of going recurrent, though it will most likely miss the actual chart

-I Wanna Get Better (70%), 0 to 100 (85%), Eres Mia (75%), Stolen Dance (80%), and I Will Never Let You Down (65%) all have chances to enter (which I have listed my percent certainty)

Yeah, especially since "Heartless" was one of my favorite songs from him despite the fact that I liked his older stuff (i.e. up to 2007) a lot more than his more recent stuff.
and I feel like even Eminem's next one ("We Made You") was more significant than CAB, despite only peaking at #9 iirc (and it was in the debut week; the song never did return to the top ten I believe). I certainly feel like "Heartless" deserved the #1 spot more.

ugh, Grenade hit #1 the week after these 2 weeks, so close! But oh well, I'm curious to know if anyone knows what the record is.

Over on the Digital Songs chart, Jason Aldean's "Burnin' It Down" fires up at No. 1, debuting with 184,000 downloads sold. Digital track sales this past week totaled 19.4 million downloads, down 5 percent compared with last week (20.4 million) and down 16 percent stacked next to the comparable week of 2013 (23.2 million). Those numbers for American Idol are what the seasons premiered with, not necessarily the average. Season 5 was the highest season average with 30.67 million. This season was the lowest with an average of 11.69 million. But you also have to keep in mind that broadcast television doesn't get the same amount of viewers that it got 8 years ago. #1 show doesnt break 20-25 million.

In the era of streaming, DVR and on-demand, live television is dying.

In 2009, 83% of television was watched live. Today, that number has fallen to 63%. However, people are actually watching more television now than back then, just not in the traditional sense. The rise of cable channels like FX and AMC have also cut into the major networks audience.

That's why Nielsen overnight ratings have plummeted so sharply. American Idol could possibly be the last of the so-called "fireside" television programs.

I believe that the Big Bang Theory ended its 2013-2014 season with 20.0 million viewers, but it's the exception. Only football ranks higher.

I believe that is a Live+3 or Live+7 number.  I'm pretty sure the live broadcasts only do 14-17 million (still impressive, but not 20 million)
