Just as I predicted 2 new top 10's this week as Dustin Lynch gets his 3rd top 10 with "Hell Of A Night" and Sam Hunt gets his 3rd top 10 as well with "House Party"! There should have been a 3rd top 10, though -- Thomas Rhett's "Crash and Burn". Billboard made an error by forgetting to send Canaan Smith recurrent. Canaan fell to #12 in spins, so he shouldn't be on the chart anymore. Hopefully they'll fix it, and move everybody (from Thomas on down) up a notch.

They won't fix it because they base the chart on audience numbers not spins. He has a higher audience number than Thomas Rhett so that's why he's still on.

No, the rule is that a song will go recurrent if it falls below #10 in either audience OR spins. That has been the rule for as long as I've followed the Billboard chart. I'm well aware that the chart is ranked by audience, but there is one situation where Billboard will pay attention to spins (when it comes to potential recurrents), and that is if a song falls below #10 in spins. Here's an example...take a look at the chart from July 6: www.billboard.com/files/pdfs/country_update_0706.pdfLook at the top 10 recurrents (page 11). Kelsea Ballerini had 32.446 million, and Carrie Underwood had 30.403 million. Then scroll up and look at the chart. Tim McGraw was #8 with 31.635 million (less than Kelsea), Luke Bryan was #9 with 29.987 million, and Zac Brown Band was #10 with 28.936 million. Kelsea was ahead of all 3 of them in audience, and Carrie had more audience than both Luke and ZBB. Kelsea was technically #8 in audience, Tim was #9, and Carrie was #10...but Kelsea and Carrie were moved to the recurrent section because they fell below Luke in spins (Luke was ranked #10 in spins). So Billboard made a mistake last night. Canaan Smith should not still be on the chart. I know he is #10 in audience, but if you look at the far right column, you will see that he is #12 in spins, well below Thomas Rhett and also below Chris Janson. And again, ever since I've followed the chart, anytime a song falls out of the top 10 in either audience OR spins, it has always gone recurrent. Canaan Smith should NOT be on the chart (Billboard probably won't fix it though because they don't like admitting that they make mistakes).

I'm not disagreeing with you at all because in my opinion, Thomas Rhett's "Crash And Burn" should be a top 10 but I think they need to read their rules a little better for the Airplay chart or fix it. I'm thinking based on the July 6 chart that you posted above and this weeks chart that the rule should state descending titles will move recurrent if the audience and play numbers are below top 10. Here is what the rule actually says on their site: Descending country titles move to recurrent after 20 weeks if they rank below No. 10 in either audience or plays. I copied that straight from their chart rules so I don't know rules they are using.

"Descending titles move to recurrent after 20 weeks if they rank below No. 10 in either audience or plays. And Canaan ranked #12 in plays on last night's chart...so Billboard forgot to remove "Love You Like That" and place it in the recurrent section. The correct chart should have Thomas Rhett at #10, Chris Janson at #11, Keith Urban at #12, etc. Canaan Smith shouldn't be on there -- he should be in the recurrent section with Blake and Little Big Town. I emailed Billboard about it but it doesn't seem like they're going to correct their error. They have their rules, but they forgot to apply the rule to Canaan's song. Or maybe they'll just send songs recurrent whenever they feel like it now. I don't know.

I don't want to drag this at ad absurdum but I'm totally disappointed in Billboard and nielsen MUSIC for this amateurish mistake... jhomes87 Please let me know what Billboard has to say once (and if) they answer. I'm considering dropping a note to Tom Roland, too.

This week Keith Urban gets his 34th top 10 with "John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16", Brett Eldredge gets his 4th top 10 with "Lose My Mind", and Kenny Chesney gets his 49th top 10 with "Save It For A Rainy Day". Kenny is only 1 top 10 away from being only the 4th artist to have 50 airplay top 10's. Only George Strait, Tim McGraw and Alan Jackson have accomplished that feat! Keith Urban breaks out of his tie with Brad Paisley to have sole possession of 9th place on the list.

Brothers Osborne get their 1st top 10 this week with "Stay A Little Longer". That makes them the 12th artist to score their first top 10 this year if you count Catherine Dunn's vocals with Tim McGraw on "Diamond Rings & Old Barstools. Ashley Monroe, Chase Bryant, A Thousand Horses, Catherine Dunn, Canaan Smith, Kelsea Ballerini, Michael Ray, Chris Janson, Old Dominion, Dan & Shay, And Cam were the first 11 to score their first top 10's in 2015. With 4 weeks left we could possibly have 2 more artists get their first top 10's this year, LoCash and Granger Smith. LoCash could easily do it in the next couple weeks. Granger Smith will be a stretch though.
