Mark G.'s Top 20 - October 16th, 2014
No article this week. Too time consuming and I'm behind schedule. This weekend I'll post the chart for October 23rd. I'll list the genre charts and their #1's. Oh and the explanation for Counting Stars is that it got quite some points (strong recurrent because #longevity) and I didn't have enough songs with actual points this week so I needed a place filler :/ (it would be very unfair if it beats Radioactive's record because of this).
Genre Chart #1's
Rap/Hip-Hop: "Black Widow" (7th week) R&B: "Don't" (5th week) Dance/Electronic: "Rather Be" (5th week) Folk/Alternative: "Habits (Stay High) (3rd week)

#5 "Fancy" - Iggy Azalea ft. Charli XCX
She's so fancy, you already know. Iggy Azalea snags the #5 spot of my Top 25 of Q3 - Summer 2014 alongside Charli XCX. "Fancy" was in my top 5 of Q2 - Spring 2014 at #2; thus this is the second seasonal chart in a row in which this song is in the top 5 and this puts it in a good spot for a high position on the year-end chart. The song got 783k points in Q3 and peaked at #3 during that time (however its overall peak was #1 for 5 weeks in May-June i.e. Q2). This is my #1 Rap/Hip-Hop song of Q3 (Summer 2014).

#4"Latch" - Disclosure ft. Sam SmithDisclosure's first chart entry is latching onto the #4 spot of my Q3 - Summer 2014 chart. "Latch" features vocals by Sam Smith who was previously featured on Naughty Boy's "LaLaLa", which peaked at #10 for two weeks on my weekly chart in April this year and was #23 on my Q2 Top 25. "Latch" is the first weekly #1 for both Disclosure and for Sam Smith. It was just 10k points shy of being in my top 25 of Q2. It juuuuuuuuust missed that chart :(. It had climbed as high as #8 in Q2. The song got 802k points and is my #1 dance/electronic song of the summer.
Q3 Run: 14-7-3-1-4-4-3-5-8-10-15-14-17

#3"Maps" - Maroon 5 Maroon 5 is at #3 with their debut single from V - "Maps". It was my first weekly #1 of the weekly chart during Q3. This is the highest seasonal position for a song for the band since "One More Night" was #2 in Q4 - Fall 2012 (it was also in the top 10 of Q3 - Summer 2012). In fact, it's the first song to even reach the top 3 on my weekly chart since OMN (Daylight and Love Somebody peaked at #5 and #6, respectively, both in 2013). It also holds the record for the biggest jump to #1 (15-1) since my chart officially began when it jumped 14 spots to #1 in its second week on June 26th. It was also #1 on my birthday. The song got 1.093M points in Q3. The song did not make my Q2 top 25 (it only had 1 week on the chart at #15 in Q2).
Q3 chart run: 1-1-2-4-8-8-6-4-5-7-5-7-6 (entire season spent at no lower than #8!!!)

#2 "Rude" - Magic
Magic!'s first chart entry "Rude" is my #2 song of the summer. This song debuted at #8 on my chart in February when it was popular here in Canada but then fell off the very next week. However, in May it re-entered my chart once it started becoming popular in the USA. That really influenced my chart a lot. This enabled Magic! to get in their car and race like a jet, all the way to #1 on my chart for two non-consecutive weeks in July and August. The song had some tough competition too. The song got 1.274M points in Q3 and it is my #1 alternative song of the summer. It was #20 of Q2.
Q3 chart run: 3-3-6-3-2-1-2-1-3-6-9-5-9 (entire season spent at no lower than #9!!!)

#1 "Am I Wrong"
Nico and Vinz crown my Top 25 of Q3 - Summer 2014 with their debut single "Am I Wrong" the song was debuted at #15 at the beginning of June, then shot up to #3 the next week. The following week it rose to #2 and stayed there for three consecutive weeks as it was blocked by "Fancy" for one week then by "Maps" for two weeks. Then on the July 10th chart, it finally reached the summit. It topped my chart for 4 non-consecutive weeks. It could've been #1 for 8 or 9 weeks if it didn't keep getting blocked (it had an extremely similar chart run to Avicii's "Wake Me Up", both on my chart and on the Hot 100; that song crowned the Q4 - Fall 2013 seasonal chart). This was enough for AIW to sit atop my songs of the summer chart. A well-deserved hit for the duo! The song got 1.543M points in Q3. It was #19 in Q2 despite having only 3 weeks in that season on the chart. Congratulations to Nico and Vinz!
Q3 chart run: 2-2-1-2-1-2-1-3-1-3-6-11-11 (12 straight weeks in top 3 and 8 straight weeks in top 2, including Q2)

Mark G.'s Top 20 - October 23rd, 2014
Maroon 5 lives up to their name by scoring their fifth #1 on my chart as "Animals" jumps 8-1 in its second week on my chart. It joins "Moves Like Jagger", "Payphone", "One More Night", and "Maps" - all of which (except for MLJ, 2-1) also had sizable jumps to #1 ("Maps" jumped 15-1 this June, "One More Night" jumped 4-1 in September 2012, and "Payphone" jumped 5-1 in May 2012; these were all second-week jumps except for OMN which had an initial chart run of 4-3-4-4-1). Maroon 5 is now tied with Eminem for the most #1's on my chart since it officially started (although Eminem would've certainly had 2 or 3 more prior to 2011). The song spikes 92% to 150k points and dethrones "Black Widow" by Iggy Azalea and Rita Ora with a meager 3.5% (it had a slow start this week :( otherwise it would've had a much bigger lead). Speaking of BW, it falls off the top of my chart after having crowned it for the past two weeks. Thus no song has had more than 2 weeks at #1 since "Am I Wrong" 2-3 months ago and only 4 songs in all have had 3 or more weeks at #1 this year. Previous years each had at least 6-7. "Black Widow" reigns Rap/Hip-Hop Songs for an 8th week. The song falls 1-2 in its 11th week on the chart losing 9.4% of its points from last week. It was Iggy's 3rd number one this year and overall and Rita's first overall. Jessie J retreats 2-3 alongside Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj with "Bang Bang", with a 10.4% decrease to 129k points. Should it reverse course and hit #1, it will be the 1st #1 for Jessie and the third for Ariana and Nicki each. This is its 10th week on my chart. Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" returns to the top quarter (and even top 20%) of my chart with a 6-4 rise and 27.7% increase in points in its 10th week on my chart. It was Taylor's first #1 on my chart after IKYWT just missed the top spot in early 2013. If SIO continues this longevity, it will likely be in the top 20 of my year-end and maybe even pass her own IKYWT's #16 year-end rank of 2013... Tove Lo likewise rebounds 7-5 after having peaked at #3 for two weeks. It tops Folk/Alternative Songs for a 4th consecutive week. It jumps 16% in points. This is its 6th week on my chart (yes I jumped on it very late). Ed Sheeran's "Don't" falls 3-6 after reaching its highpoint (so far) last week. This is its 10th week on my chart. It tops R&B Songs for a 6th week. Can it still match or possibly pass the #2 peak of "Sing"? Stay tuned... Meghan Trainor's "All About That Bass" falls 5-7 in its 11th week on my chart. It topped my chart for 2 consecutive weeks in September-October. I'm starting to feel it burning out on me... Clean Bandit's "Rather Be" featuring Jess Glyne, which just barely missed the top spot a couple weeks ago, falls 4-8 this week in its 24th week. #8 is the very position it debuted at back in April. It tops Dance/Electronic Songs for a 6th total week. Nico and Vinz's "Am I Wrong" rebounds into the top 10, jumping 12-9 in its 21st week. This song could go into 2015 charts - it has impressive longevity for me. Ariana Grande's "Problem" featuring Iggy Azalea dips 9-10 in its 25th week. This technically should be my longest current chart sitter (Counting Stars has to be eliminated next week because it was used as a placeholder since I didn't have enough songs even though it's a recurrent and it would be unfair if it broke the record when it went recurrent a few weeks ago). "Rap God" returns in honor of Eminem's birthday last week. "Bailando" returns at #17 as I listened to it a bit this week. Both songs spent a week at #1. Jeremih's "Don't Tell 'Em" featuring YG debuts at #18. It is YG's first entry and Jeremih's second, following "Down On Me" featuring 50 Cent which spent a week at #1 in March 2011. DT'E has a sick beat IMO. "Fancy" by Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX finally falls out of my chart from #19 and thus goes recurrent. It could chart very high on my year-end chart now that I use actual points rather than the inverse point system, which would be odd for a song with only 25 weeks on the chart. Sam Smith's "I'm Not the Only One" and Echosmith's "Cool Kids" drop out from #18 and #15 respectively but they should return next week. @smirjal Mr. Thonk Eyes surfy Daniel Collins Flip Zeebz
