Mark G.'s Top 20 - October 30th, 2014IMPORTANT NOTE: this is the last week for 2014 debuts meaning that any song that debuts starting from next week will have its points all carried over to the 2015 year-end unless if they look like they'll burn out by Jan-Feb 2015 so that they can have a higher year-end position in 2015. Example: The Monster was transferred to 2014 though it got significant points in the last few weeks of 2013 so it could be higher in year-end this year.In one of the closest races between the top four ever on my chart, Maroon 5 notches a second week at #1 on my chart in its 3rd week. The song increases by just 3.3% in points which is juuuuust enough for it to secure its spot at #1 for another week. It boasts a meager 2.65% lead over the runner-up song this week. It was the band's 5th #1 (fitting their name) tying them with Eminem for the most #1's starting from the official beginning of my chart.
Ugh, blocked yet again :( Jessie J's "Bang Bang" featuring Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj just misses the top spot, and it could be its last chance to do so :/ it's still vying to be the first #1 for Jessie and the third for Ariana and Nicki each. The song rises 17.1% in points this week in that attempt to grab the top spot. This is its 11th week on my chart.
Taylor Swift is also vying to break the record for the longest gap between two successive frames at #1 for a song with "Shake It Off". Due to the fact that I had music-less days before when it was #1, this is the highest weekly point total for the song thus far. It increases 16.3% in points in its 11th week on the chart and 10th consecutive week in the top 10 (it seems likely to become my top Taylor Swift song of all time).
Tove Lo's "Habits (Stay High) climbs 5-4 after peaking at #3 for two weeks earlier this month. The song increases EXACTLY 25% in points and tops Folk/Alternative Songs for a fifth straight week. What's amazing is that being 3 spots away from #1 it is just 10k points away from #1 which is further than #2 songs are in most weeks. This is the song's 7th week on my chart (I jumped on it a bit late).
Iggy Azalea's "Black Widow" featuring Rita Ora falls 2-5 after spending two weeks at #1 just before the reign of Animals (and still none of the last 6 songs have been #1 for more than 2 weeks...I miss longevity). The song tops Hip-Hop/Rap Songs for a ninth week. The song falls 4.8% being the only song in the top 5 that decreases in points this week. It was Iggy's third and Rita's first #1s this year and overall.
Meghan Trainor's "All About That Bass" rebounds 7-6 in its 12th week at #1. It has yet to fall below #7 as it has not been below that position at all in its chart run so far since it debuted at #7 in August. This is definitely a contender for my year-end top ten!
Ed Sheeran's "Don't" falls 6-7 in its 11th week on my chart. It looks like it will not pass the peak of "Sing" but it spends a seventh week at #1 on R&B Songs. (it's R&B to me, f**k what you say )
"Don't Tell 'Em" by Jeremih featuring YG jumps 10 spots to #8 this week, making it YG's first top ten (and first chart entry overall) and Jeremih's second. He previously spent a week at #1 in March 2011 with "Down On Me" featuring 50 Cent (that song was also in my year-end top ten of 2011). I know I jumped on this late.
Nico & Vinz's "Am I Wrong" is showing incredible longevity as it remains in my top ten at #9 with 22 weeks on my chart. A contender for year-end top five for sure!
Clean Bandit's "Rather Be" featuring Jess Glynne falls 8-10 in its 25th week and tops Dance/Electronic Songs for a seventh week. Watch out for next week when a big debut comes and quite possibly tops Dance/Electronic Songs, to say the least stay tuned...
Echosmith's "Cool Kids" re-enters at #12. Don't know how far this will go.
Sam Smith's "I'm Not the Only One" re-enters at its previous peak of #18. It could quite possibly enter the top ten next week after all these re-entries in the bottom 3 positions
Nico & Vinz debut at #19 with their follow-up single "In Your Arms". I even heard it playing on a Buffalo pop station. Will it become as big as their previous smash AIW? Stay tuned...
Sia's "Chandelier" returns to my chart as a placeholder since I heard it on the radio this week once it drops out next week, it will go recurrent with 15 weeks. We will see it again on the year-end chart.

Great chart - I like every song on it. :) so you didn't notice "Rude" still on or is it just that you started to like it?

That’s a smart rule you have in place. It makes a lot of sense since so many songs that are released late in the year don’t do so well on year-end charts. May be something I could put in place on my own PC. WAY to GO Maroon 5!!! Hope they get another week in!

Mark G.'s Top 20 - November 6th, 2014 - BIG WEEK!A very big week this week, with a number one debut and massive point totals (total points for all charting, recurrent, and bubbling under song this week is up 28% from last week (and last week was a pretty big week too). "Blame" not only becomes the first #1 for both Calvin and John, it is the first #1 debut on my chart since September 2012 ("Bailando" almost did so in August, but fell just short in points). It also has the third largest weekly point total by song this year (behind "Happy" and "Problem") and the highest debut point total (it got 0 points last week). With 238k points, it is the highest since "Problem" got 250k points in its second week on the chart back in May (this was of course the week it jumped 5-1). This is the 5th entry for Calvin and the second for John (John's first one re-enters this week, courtesy of "Blame" - more on that ahead). Obviously "Blame" dethrones "Rather Be" on Dance/Electronic Songs after the latter led for seven weeks. The song increases by infinity points a truly amazing feat that the song debuts at number one...what an amazing start and excellent achievement! Bravo...it's not often that a song grows on me THIS quickly. This was the week for Tove Lo to make her big jump to #1, but the timing was bad :( "Habits" jumps 4-2 in its 8th week on the chart for a new peak. This is also its best points week as it increases 43% to 207k points. Only 7 other songs have gotten 200k or more points this year and only 2 of them were not #1 with that amount in that particular week. Tove Lo was so close to sending her first chart entry to number one, but I guess it is still possible for the song to reach #1 in the future... The song tops Folk/Alternative Songs for a sixth consecutive week. After the last two weeks on top, Maroon 5's "Animals" falls off the throne 1-3, but with a 19% increase to 185k points. This was the band's 5th song to reach the top. If it returns to #1, it will be only the second to spend more than two weeks at the summit ("Payphone" ruled for 10 non-consecutive weeks in May-August 2012). This is the song's 4th week on my chart. After two non-consecutive weeks at its peak of #2, "Bang Bang" by Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj slips 2-4 in its 12th week on my chart. Like many other songs this week, it increases in points. It rises by 14% to 172k points (this is the highest weekly point total for the song thus far; this is the case for all of the top 5 songs). This is definitely Jessie's most successful single on my chart thus far. Rounding out the top five, Jeremih scores his second top five and YG his first with "Don't Tell 'Em", which jumps 8-5 this week and concurrently dethrones similarly titled "Don't" on R&B Songs, topping that tally for the first time. The song increases by 60% to 154k points in its 3rd week. Some weeks this would be enough for #1. Jeremih previously topped my chart for one week in March 2011 with "Down On Me" featuring 50 Cent. This is the first and quite possibly last chart entry for YG. Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" falls 3-6 in its 12th week on my chart. I honestly thought it had a chance to return to #1 but that's not gonna happen now...well at least it got to #1 in the first place which is an awesome achievement for her especially considering that I used to hate her also it will likely pass IKYWT for my favorite song from her, and can be very high on my year-end chart this year (coming soon!!!) Meghan Trainor's "All About That Bass" slips 6-7 in its 13th week on my chart. It was her first chart entry and first #1. Having debuted at #7 in August, the song has yet to be lower than #7 on my chart...#longevity Ed Sheeran's "Don't" likewise falls 1 spot to #8 and as previously mentioned falls off the throne of R&B Songs after spending 9 weeks on top. This song clearly has better top ten longevity than "Sing" did. Let's see how it will stack up against it in the year-end chart... "Black Widow" by Iggy Azalea and Rita Ora tumbles 5-9 in its 13th week on the chart but continues to reign Rap Songs for a tenth week. Iggy's own "Fancy" and Eminem's "The Monster" featuring Rihanna also reigned that chart for a double-digit number of weeks this year. Ariana Grande's "Problem" featuring Iggy Azalea returns to the top 10 rebounding 11-10 in its 27th week on my chart. I did not expect the song to have this much longevity. It is the longest current chart sitter (that is what the bold red means, in case you didn't figure it out ). Definitely will have a high year-end chart position! Pitbull scores his 12th chart entry as "Fireball" featuring John Ryan debuts at #15 this week. I will have to check but this could be the most chart entries for any act (thanks to all his featured acts ). This is John's first. John Newman's "Love Me Again" re-enters at #19 in light of "Blame" reminding me of it and me hearing it twice at mcdonalds during the week (how coincidental ). It debuted/peaked at #17 in January of this year and fell off the next week. Long-timers "Latch", "Sing" and "Chandelier" fall out this week from #15, #17 and #20, respectively. Gonna miss them all dearly, especially "Latch" :(
Just 6 weeks left of 2014 charts! So exciting!!!

Mark G.'s Top 20 - November 13th, 2014In this decline week for music, Maroon 5 (Adam Levine and the four guys no one knows about) return to #1 for a third week with "Animals" despite it decreasing by 2% to 181k points in its 5th week. Not only is this the first song to spend more than 2 weeks at #1 since "Am I Wrong" spent in July-August, it is also Maroon 5's 2nd song to spend more than two weeks at #1 out of their five total chart-toppers. They previously led for 10 non-consecutive weeks with "Payphone" in May-August 2012. "Animals" could potentially become as big as "Payphone" and "One More Night" (the latter of which was massive as well despite only spending two weeks at #1 - it was in the top 5 for 20 weeks and spent its first 26 weeks in the top 10, the latter of which is a Hot-100-Starships-type record). The band is tied with Eminem for the most #1's on my chart.
After debuting at #1 last week, "Blame" by Calvin Harris featuring John Newman falls 1-2 with a 25% decline to 178k points. It was so close to notching a second week at #1 which would've made it only the second of four official #1 debuts to debut with/spend multiple weeks at #1 following "Good Feeling" by Flo Rida which spent its first four weeks at #1 in November-December 2011 (interestingly next week marks the 3-year anniversary of that week that GF debuted at #1 the week of November 24th, 2011). The song tops Dance/Electronic Songs for a second straight week. It was just 3k points away from being #1 on my chart again. It may return to #1.
Tove Lo's "Habits" slips 2-3 with a 17% fall to 171k points in its 9th week on the chart. Looks like its chance of ever being #1 was stolen last week :( however it can still have a pretty decent year-end position due to its longevity in the top 5/top 10. It also tops Folk/Alternative Songs for a seventh consecutive week - tying Lorde's "Royals" for the longest ever reign by a female artist.
Jessie J's "Bang Bang" featuring Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj holds at #4 in its 13th week on the chart after peaking at #2 for two non-consecutive weeks. It is easily Jessie's most successful song on my chart (as well as on the Hot 100). It decreases by 6% to 162k points. It passes 1 million points this week.
Jeremih's "Don't Tell 'Em" featuring YG holds at #5 for a second week in its 4th week on the chart and tops R&B Songs for a second straight week. It loses 19% of its points from last week to 125k points. It is the first top five for YG and the second for Jeremih following the one-week #1 "Down On Me" featuring 50 Cent.
Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" holds at #6 in its 13th week on the chart. This song is headed for my year-end top ten!
Ed Sheeran's "Don't" rebounds 8-7 in its 13th week on the chart. I'm amazed at how well this song is holding up for me. It may very well become Ed's biggest hit on my chart (as well as on the Hot 100)
Meghan Trainor's "All About That Bass" slips 7-8 in its 14th week; this is the lowest position it has been in so far since it debuted at #7 back in August. It took 14 weeks for the song to fall below #7 it is vying for the aforementioned record currently held by "One More Night". This song is likewise vying for the top ten of my year-end chart. #longevity
Ariana Grande debuts at #9 with "Love Me Harder" featuring The Weeknd. This is the second top ten debut for her this week. "Problem" debuted at #5 in May and subsequently jumped to #1 in its second week. This is the second entry and second-highest-peaking song following Drake's "Crew Love" which peaked at #8 in July 2012. I have almost no doubt LMH will peak higher than CL.
Iggy Azalea's "Black Widow" featuring Rita Ora slips 9-10 in its 14th week on my chart and tops Hip-Hop/Rap Songs for an eleventh week. She topped the chart for 18 weeks with "Fancy", bringing her total to 29 weeks this year - more than half of the year! It was Iggy's third and Rita's first number one this year and overall.
Jason Derulo debuts with his 6th chart entry "Trumpets" at #11. He peaked at #2 with "It Girl" in December 2011 and with "Talk Dirty" in February of this year. All five of his previous entires peaked in the top 10, 4 of them in the top five.
Vance Joy's debut single "Riptide" debuts at #12 this week after being "#22" last week and climbs 4-2 on Folk/Alternative Songs.
Taylor Swift debuts with her 5th chart entry "Blank Space" at #16. It's the second-highest-peaking of the three entires from "1989". Could it become her second #1?
Ariana Grande's "Problem" featuring Iggy Azalea falls out of the chart from #10 after a length 27-week run on the chart. It looks like a sure year-end top five. It's situation is similar to that of "Royals" which dropped out in April of this year from #10 are 30 weeks on the chart despite it looking like it would've been on a while longer :/
Maroon 5's "Maps" falls out from #17 after 21 weeks on the chart. Pitbull's "Fireball" featuring John Ryan and John Newman's "Love Me Again" also fall out.

Way to go Maroon 5! Love that song, and awesome debuts by Grande and Swift!!! I like that you mention different genre No. 1s on your chart, just curious why “Don’t Tell Em” isn’t No. 1 on Hip-Hop/Rap Songs instead of “Black Widow,” since it’s higher on the overall chart?

Mark G.'s Top 20 - November 20th, 2014Maroon 5 howls at #1 for a fourth non-consecutive week with "Animals" in its sixth week on the chart. The song increases 25% to its highest weekly sum yet of 227k points. This peak weekly sum is the 5th highest for a song this year (behind "Happy" - 256k, "Problem" - 250k, "Blame" - 238k and "Fancy" - 232k; interestingly enough that 232k point week for Fancy was NOT one of its five weeks at #1 as that was the week that "Problem" got 250k). This week also ties "Animals" with "Am I Wrong" for the third-longest reign this year - "Fancy" was #1 for five weeks in May-June and "Happy" was #1 for 12 weeks in January-April; "The Monster was #1 for 7 weeks in total but 4 of them were in 2013 charts (its last week at #1 was the January 9th chart). This song is on its way to becoming a "Payphone"/"One More Night"-sized hit. Could it hold on longer to tie or even pass "Fancy"'s weeks at #1 for the second-longest reign this year?...Also noteworthy that this is the 19th total week at #1 for the band from their five #1's; if they can hold at #1 next week they will be tied with Eminem and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis for the second-longest cumulative reign at #1 for an artist. Pharrell Williams leads with 24 total weeks combined from his three chart-toppers in 2013 -2014. Of course Eminem would have about 15 additional weeks from "Love the Way You Lie" had my chart been official in 2010 :(
"Blame" by Calvin Harris featuring John Newman holds at #2 with a 2% increase to 182k points after debuting at #1 two weeks ago. It tops Dance/Electronic Songs for a third consecutive week. "F**kin' Perfect" by P!nk, "I Need A Doctor" by Dr. Dre ft. Eminem & Skylar Grey, "On The Floor" by Jennifer Lopez ft. Pitbull, "Good Feeling" by Flo Rida, "Some Nights" by fun., and "Bailando" by Enrique Iglesias et. al. all also spent their first three weeks in the top two ("Kush" by Dr. Dre ft. Akon and Snoop Dogg as well as "Black and Yellow" by Wiz Khalifa would also do this in December 2010).
In this static top three, Tove Lo's "Habits (Stay High)" holds at #3 with a 15% decrease to 146k points after peaking at #2 two weeks ago. This is its tenth week on my chart. It tops Folk/Alternative Songs for an eighth week which puts it ahead of "Royals" for the longest ever reign on that chart by a female (makes sense since there haven't been too many females with alternative songs ). Lorde however leads with the most cumulative weeks at #1 for a female artist as "Team" added two more weeks for a total of nine. Tove Lo is one week away from matching this...
Jeremih's "Don't Tell 'Em" climbs to a new peak 5-4 in its fifth week on my chart and tops R&B Songs for a third consecutive week. The song jumps by 15% to 144k points. Jeremih previously reached #1 with "Down On Me" featuring 50 Cent in March 2011. This is the first chart entry for YG (and thus his highest).
Meghan Trainor returns to the top five with "All About That Bass" which climbs 8-5 in its 15th week on my chart with a 23% jump to 128k points. This song has yet to fall below #8 and has spent 10 of its 15 weeks in the top five. Sounds like a year-end top 10 to me
Ariana Grande's "Love Me Harder" featuring The Weeknd climbs to #6 after an impressive debut at #9 last week. This song passes "The Way" (#8, May 2013) for Ariana's fourth-highest peaking song thus far and passes Drake's "Crew Love" for The Weeknd's highest-peaking song to date.
"Bang Bang" by Jessie J featuring Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj finally falls out of my top five after a lengthy run in the region. It falls 4-7 in its 14th week on the chart.
Ed Sheeran's "Don't" slips 7-8 in its 14th week on my chart. It passed 1 million points last week (sorry I forgot to mention that).
Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" falls 6-9 in its 14th week on my chart. It could pass 2 million points before the end of the year!
Well, well, well...what have we here? Taylor not only doubles up in the top ten, but as this weeks greatest gainer (up by 62k to 81k points this week, up 326%) is Taylor's fourth top ten on my chart, Blank Space! Her previous three entries charting in the top ten all reached at top three...could this be the next smash for her? Stay tuned...
Despite falling 10-13 on my chart this week, Iggy Azalea's "Black Widow" featuring Rita Ora crowns Rap Songs for a twelfth cumulative week.
Magic!'s "Let Your Hair Down" is this week's top entry at #11. The follow-up to "Rude" and "Don't Kill the Magic!" (the latter of which did not make my chart) is the second-highest debut for the band and second entry. They previously debuted at #8 with "Rude" in February of this year. That song fell off the very next week and returned three months later to reach #1. It jumps 5-2 on Alternative Songs.
Hozier's "Take Me To Church" debuts at #14 and is set for a jump into the top ten next week. It debuts at #3 on Folk/Alternative Songs. It is Hozier's first chart entry.
Meghan Trainor's "Lips Are Movin'" becomes the curvy chick's second chart entry as it bows at #19 this week. Could it mimic AATB in reaching #1?
Three songs leave my chart this week: "In Your Arms" by Nico & Vinz, "Cool Kids" by Echosmith, and "Break Free" by Ariana Grande and Zedd. The latter of the three becomes #2 on Recurrent Songs with 10k points, behind "Happy" with 18k. Ariana is also #3 on that chart with "Problem" (7k)
Ella Henderson's "Ghost" is the top bubbling under song with 9k points. "Waves (Robin Schulz Remix)" is right behind it with 6k.

Mark G.'s Top 20 - November 27th, 2014Maroon 5 lives up to their name by notching a fifth week at number one on my chart with "Animals" with a 24% drop to 173k points (don't think too much of the drop as this week was an overall decrease in points for my chart since I missed a day) in its 7th week on my chart. This song is the band's second-longest leader and this week it reaches the halfway point to its longest leader "Payphone" (10 weeks, May-August 2012). The band is now in a three-way tie with Macklemore/Ryan Lewis and Eminem for the second-most total weeks at #1 with 20 weeks total. Pharrell Williams is the leader with 24 weeks ("Get Lucky", 4 weeks in May-August 2013, "Blurred Lines", 8 weeks in June-August 2013, and "Happy", 12 weeks in January-April 2014). Shame, if OMN got that third week at #1 that it deserved then they would be the sole runner-up act... Also notably "Animals" ties Iggy Azalea's "Fancy" featuring Charli XCX for the second-longest reign of any song in 2014. Of course the aforementioned "Happy" has by far the longest reign of the year and so it will be at the end of the year. Eminem's "The Monster" featuring Rihanna led for seven weeks; however only three of those were in 2014 charts.
Calvin Harris's "Blame" featuring John Newman helps "Animals" lock up the top two for a third straight week as it holds at #2 yet again with a 26% drop to 135k points, leading Dance/Electronic Songs for a fourth straight week. The song debuted at #1 three weeks ago becoming the first to do so in more than two years. After er a stale top two for the last three weeks, could we finally have a big shake-up this week? Stay tuned...
Taylor Swift's "Blank Space" zooms up 10-3 in its 3rd week on my chart with a 51% gain to 122k points this week (with an increase of 41k, it is this weeks biggest gainer in terms of points - not percentage). The song becomes Taylor's 4th to reach the top three following "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" (#3, September 2012), "I Knew You Were Trouble" (#2, January 2013), and "Shake It Off" (#1, September 2014). Could it go as high as parent single from "1989" to become her second leader?
Ed Sheeran's "Don't" rebounds 8-4 in its 15th week on my chart with a 19% increase in points and returns to the top of R&B Songs (3-1) where it reigns for an eighth week, dethroning dethroning similarly titled "Don't Tell 'Em" which falls 1-3 after spending the last three weeks on top of that chart ("Love Me Harder" awaits the others' descent to become Ariana's second R&B Songs leader as it holds 2-2). "Don't" has the third-longest reign on R&B Songs (had to edit my counting error in previous posts) behind "Happy" (18, January-August) and Ariana Grande's "Problem" featuring Iggy Azalea (15, May-September).
Tove Lo's "Habits (Stay High)" drops 3-5 in its 11th week on my chart with a 32% drop to 100k points. It tops Folk/Alternative Songs for a ninth consecutive week, extending its record lead on that chart among solo female acts. Not much else to say about that song at this point other than the fact that it looks like it is on its way down now on my chart as well as on Billboard charts...
Ariana Grande's "Love Me Harder" featuring The Weeknd holds at its peak of #6 for a second straight week after debuting at #9 two weeks ago. It is vying to becoming Ariana's fourth top five this year and overall. It is her fifth chart entry as either a lead or a solo artist; all five entries have made the top ten. It is The Weeknd's second entry and highest peaking one (he previously reached #8 as a featured act on Drake's "Crew Love" from Drake's album "Take Care").
Hozier's maiden entry "Take Me To Church" jumps 14-7 in its 2nd week on the chart as this week's largest percentage gainer (up 67%, excluding songs that got 0 points and/or were not on the chart last week, although this may also be true including those songs, but I'm too lazy to check ). Let's see if it will end the reign of "Habits (Stay High)" on Folk/Alternative Songs this week...
Meghan Trainor's two-week leader "All About That Bass" returns 5-8 to its lowest position in the 16 weeks that it has been on the chart. Sounds like a year-end top ten to me... Meanwhile her follow-up from her album "Title", "Lips Are Movin'", drops out of my chart after debuting at #19 last week. Fear not, this song is sparring big increases on Billboard charts so it will likely return.
Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" holds at #9 this week and grants her a second straight week or having two songs in the top ten. It spent two weeks at #1 in September.
Urban/rhythmic crossover smash "Don't Tell 'Em" by Jeremih featuring YG falls 4-10 and, as previously mentioned, departs the summit of R&B Songs 1-3 after sitting at the throne the last three weeks.
Notably, below the top ten Sam Smith's "I'm Not the Only One" is still vying to become Sam's third top ten and first as a lead artist, as well as to beat the record of "Demons" for the slowest climb to the top ten ("Demons" took 12 weeks to reach the top ten; however it also took two chart runs it climbed to the region in the second week of its second chart run). Also two new songs (debut for the artists) enter the chart this week: "Ghost" by Ella Henderson at #20 - her first entry, and "Uptown Funk" by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars - the first for Mark and eleventh for Bruno. I can see the funky Ronson song making a big jump this coming week; stay tuned... Enrique Iglesias's "Bailando" (featuring some people that mostly just Spanish people know of and, in the English version, Sean Paul) returns to my chart at #19 after I heard it on the radio this week. Ylvis's "The Fox" remains the shortest-running single to reach number one with just. 6 weeks on my chart. "Bailando" is still in second place for that.
Last week's bottom three songs - "Riptide" by Vance Joy, "Lips Are Movin'" by Meghan Trainor, and "Trumpets" by Jason Derulo - drop out of my chart this week. Any of these three could return. However, I have my doubts about "Riptide"

Mark G.'s Top 20 - December 4th, 2014 (BIG week - Mark Ronson, Bruno Mars, Sam Smith score new achievements!)Mark Ronson's "Uptown Funk" featuring Bruno Mars leaps 17-1 in its 2nd week on my chart, becoming the biggest jump to number one in the history of my official chart! The record was previously set by Maroon 5's "Maps" in June when it jumped 15-1 in its second week on the chart. Before that, "Thrift Shop" and "Roar" jumped 14-1 in their second respective weeks and "Happy" did so in its third (after falling 11-14 in its second week). Bruno Mars also passes the record he previously set for the biggest overall jump on the chart (not verified) - "Lighters" by Eminem and Royce Da 5'9 which featured Bruno jumped 18-3 in its third week on my chart (and went to #1 the following week for a total of seven non-consecutive weeks). "Love the Way You Lie would've likely jumped 18-2 or 19-2 in 2010 but I didn't officially have a chart back then :( anyway, this song becomes Mark's first #1 (after already being his first chart entry) and Bruno's 4th, following "Lighters", "Locked Out of Heaven", and "When I Was Your Man". It also helps Bruno extend his lead for the most top five hits among all artists as this is his 10th. It is his first since "Young Girls" reached #3 in February. The song is this week's greatest gainer (duh!) as it gains by 1936% to 224k points. A very unexpected yet pleasantly surprising #1! Well done, Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars!
Right underneath the funky Mark Ronson song is alternative star Hozier with his crossover breakout smash "Take Me To Church", which gains by 122% to 204k points jumping 7-2 in its 3rd week. It dethrones Tove Lo's "Habits (Stay High)" on Folk/Alternative Songs after the latter led the list for the past nine weeks. Hozier becomes third consecutive artist to reign on the chart with his first entry, following Tove Lo and Magic! who immediately preceded him. Could "Take Me To Church" replace "Uptown Funk" atop my chart this coming week??? Stay tuned...
Taylor Swift is still waiting for her second #1 on my chart as "Blank Space" holds at #3 for a second week in its 4th week on my chart, having passed the two songs that were above it last week but being passed by two other songs although the song increases by 47% to 179k points this week - her highest weekly point total for a song ever! Even though this week was an overall increase for songs, 47% was definitely an above average increase! Also, "I Knew You Were Trouble" would very likely have gotten more than 179k points in one of its highest weeks but I didn't use points until this year...so let's wait and see if this fourth top 3 hit for Taylor becomes her second #1...
Ariana Grande's "Love Me Harder" featuring The Weeknd finally makes the top 5, rising 6-4 in its 4th week on my chart with a 53% increase to. 148k points. This becomes Ariana's 4th top five and 3rd as a lead artist and The Weeknd's first (as I mentioned before, he previously reached #8 as a featured act on Drake's "Crew Love" in July 2012). All of Ariana's top fives happened this year. The song climbs 2-1 on R&B Songs, marking her 2nd #1 on that chart (she was #1 for 15 weeks earlier this year with "Problem"). Could this song become her third #1??? Stay tuned...
Maroon 5's "Animals" falls 1-5 in its 8th week with a 20% drop to 138k points after spending 5 non-consecutive weeks on top (tied for the second-longest reign this year). Lol I guess I may have been wrong about this song becoming as big as "Payphone" or "One More Night". But then again I guess we will have to wait and see how long this song sticks around in the top 5, top 10 and on the overall chart. This is notably the third time in the last 11 weeks that a song plunged directly to #5 or lower from the #1 spot - "All About That Bass" fell 1-5 in October after two consecutive weeks on top and "Break Free" plummeted 1-7 just before AATB's reign (tied for the second biggest drop from #1 ever). It debuted in October therefore its 2014 cannot be transferred to 2015 for a higher year-end position so it must be on this year's year-end chart.
"Blame" by Calvin Harris featuring John Newman falls 2-6 in its 5th week. This is the first time that it is not in the top two - funny thing is neither Calvin nor John have ever made it to the top 2 at all prior to "Blame" lol. The song tops Dance/Electronic Songs for a fifth consecutive week.
Sam Smith's "I'm Not the Only One" finally completes its ever so slow ascent into the top ten, jumping 11-7 in its 9th week on my chart. Notably, this is the 4th-longest climb into the region top ten ("Demons reached it in its 12th week, "Counting Stars" in its 11th, and "Try" by Pink in its 10th). All four of these songs, as well as "Just Give Me A Reason (which took 8 weeks to reach the top ten) all had multiple chart runs before reaching the top ten (i.e. dropped out and only reached the top ten for the first time after re-entering the chart). Therefore the longest climb to the top ten for a song in a single chart run is (I think) a tie between "Radioactive" and "Turn Down For What" which each took 7 weeks and one chart run to reach the top ten. Another fun fact: "Try" took so long to reach the top 10 jumping 14-8 in its tenth week yet that was the song's only week in the top ten. This is also Sam's first top ten/highest peaking single as a lead artist. He previously reached #10 as a featured act on Naughty Boy's "LaLaLa" and spent a week at #1 as a featured act on Disclosure's "Latch". His own "Stay With Me" only reached #14 as I was not a fan of the song.
Ed Sheeran's "Don't" falls 4-8 in its 16th week on my chart. This is its 12th consecutive week in my top ten. It is easily his most successful song on my chart so far. It falls 1-3 after eight total weeks atop R&B Songs.
Tove Lo's "Habits (Stay High)" falls 5-9 in its 12th week on my chart. As previously mentioned, the song falls 1-2 on Folk/Alternative Songs after leading the last nine weeks.
Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" budges 9-10 in its 16th week on my chart. This is its 15th consecutive week in the top ten. Taylor Swift is also the 8th artist this year after Imagine Dragons, Pharrell, Lorde, Iggy Azalea, Ariana Grande, OneRepublic and Ed Sheeran to have two songs in the top ten simultaneously. She is the 5th after the Dragons, Pharrell Iggy and Ariana to do so for multiple weeks.
Meghan Trainor's "All About That Bass" finally falls out of the top ten as it slides 8-11 in its 17th week after spending it's first 16 weeks in the top eight. It is (tied for?) the 10th most debut weeks in the top ten. Maroon 5's "One More Night" spent its first 26 weeks in my top 10, and the band as well takes the runner-up position as "Payphone" spent its first 23 weeks in my top 10. The last song to debut with more weeks in the top ten was "Fancy" which spent its first 17 weeks in the top ten before falling out in the end of August.
In good news for Meghan, on the other hand, her follow-up single "Lips Are Movin'" re-enters my chart at a new peak of #18. Could she get a second #1??? After it was in my head and got a spin on my phone, "Hey Brother" by Avicii featuring Dan Tyminski re-enters my chart for the first time since March. It peaked at #4 in January. Expect this song to be out next week.
