The single Duran Duran will be premiering will advance a new album, the band’s first since 2015’s “Paper Gods.” “Before the pandemic struck, there was a new Duran Duran almost finished,” Nick Rhodes told Vogue in April. “We were gearing up with a lot of shows, like a lot of other artists, and had to put everything on hold.” The keyboard player was doing the interview to promote an ambient side project he is doing with Wendy Bevan, “Astronomia.” Besides Coxon, other collaborators that have been mentioned for the upcoming album include Mark Ronson (who co-produced their previous effort), Erol Alkan, Giorgio Moroder and Lykke Li. ‘FUTURE PAST’ Track Listing
INVISIBLE ALL OF YOU GIVE IT ALL UP (Feat. Tove Lo) ANNIVERSARY FUTURE PAST BEAUTIFUL LIES TONIGHT UNITED WING NOTHING LESS HAMMERHEAD (Feat. Ivorian Doll) MORE JOY! (Feat. CHAI) FALLING (Feat. Mike Garson)
DURAN DURAN RELEASE BRAND NEW TRACK ‘MORE JOY!’ FEAT. CHAI TAKEN FROM THEIR UPCOMING ALBUM ‘FUTURE PAST’
August 5th, 2021
Today, internationally acclaimed, multi-platinum and award-winning pop legends Duran Duran release their brand new track ‘MORE JOY!’ feat CHAI, taken from their upcoming fifteenth studio album ‘FUTURE PAST,’ set for global release on October 22 via TAPE MODERN for BMG. Listen HERE.
On the new track – ’MORE JOY!’ – Duran Duran channel just that; drilling down on their signature pop energy while adding a flavor of J-pop-disco-punk with collaborators CHAI, the fast-rising all-girl punk band from Nagoya, Japan. With ‘MORE JOY!’ Duran Duran show off all the reasons why they’re still one of the most exciting and forward-looking bands on the planet. With fast-paced synths, driving percussion and CHAI’s group chant of “more joy!”, the track does nothing but evoke pure elation.
Speaking from London about the new track, keyboardist Nick Rhodes said: “The song ‘MORE JOY!’ was born out of a crazy jam with Duran Duran, Graham Coxon and Erol Alkan. It was such an unusual piece we weren’t quite sure if it would fit in at first. It reminded me of one of those retro Japanese video games, which I always found quite uplifting. We came up with the chant “more joy” early on, and that became the key to the rest of the track. We all agreed that it would sound really great with Japanese female voices on it, and that’s when Simon had the inspired idea to ask CHAI if they would possibly collaborate with us. To our joy they agreed, and the result most certainly brought an incredible new energy to the song. They are so special!!
On bringing CHAI on board, Simon Le Bon reveals, “Nick suggested some girlish voices on ‘MORE JOY!’ and I knew exactly where to find them – CHAI, post-modern, all-girl Japanese punk band, whose energy and pure sense of fun might actually blow your ears off! We are honoured to have them sprinkle their pink neon magic spikey dust onto our song. Now it’s ‘MORE JOY!’ (feat. CHAI). CHAI – beloved forever!”
On being asked to collaborate, CHAI said; “We are full of joy! When Duran Duran asked us to join their new song, we listened to it and thought ‘this is lively, rock, cool and fun’, and we danced! We added our voices to their rock sound, making it even more ‘MORE JOY’! Because we are MORE JOY. Thank you Duran Duran!”
Enrolling the help of some of the most exciting names of the last 50 years, with ‘FUTURE PAST’ Duran Duran has delivered yet another incredible genre-spanning piece of work that once again sets them apart from the pack. Working alongside British DJ / producer Erol Alkan and pioneering Italian composer / producer Giorgio Moroder, the band has enlisted the help of some of the most unexpected and inspiring names in pop – including Multi-platinum Swedish hit-maker Tove Lo, ‘Queen of Drill’ Ivorian Doll, and Japan’s CHAI on ‘MORE JOY!’. In addition, Blur’s Graham Coxon co-wrote and lends his guitar to several tracks on the record, and David Bowie’s former pianist Mike Garson adds an exquisite sonic layer to album closer ‘FALLING’. The record, which was recorded across studios in London and LA over lockdown, also features long-time collaborator Mark Ronson who co-wrote and played on ‘WING’, and was mixed by Mark ‘Spike’ Stent.
Earlier this year, Duran Duran captivated American audiences with their spellbinding performance at the Billboard Music Awards where they debuted their single ‘INVISIBLE’ as well as classics, ‘Notorious’ and ‘Hungry Like The Wolf,’ (WATCH). They also recently played on NBC’s The Today Show (WATCH) and just days ago paid a visit to Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live! With Andy Cohen.
FUTURE PAST will be available on all digital platforms, as well as in a variety of physical formats: standard CD, cassette, a limited edition deluxe hardback book CD featuring three additional tracks, and colored vinyl. The official album store will also offer exclusive vinyl and cassette formats.
The band continue the trend of being trailblazers across both technology and music with a special collaboration with 360 Reality Audio, a new immersive music experience using Sony’s spatial sound technologies. A separate version with 360 mixes will be released of ‘FUTURE PAST’, together with new 360 versions of their back catalogue. 360 Reality Audio is on supported streaming services Amazon Music HD, TIDAL HiFi, and Deezer HiFi.

www.msn.com/en-gb/entertainment/music/album-reviews-biffy-clyro-coldplay-duran-duran-lola-in-slacks/ar-AAPyYJADuran Duran: Future Past (BMG) ****Actual Eighties pop stars Duran Duran celebrate their 40th anniversary and 15th album in the company of a deluxe guestlist, comprising production royalty Giorgio Moroder, Mark Ronson and Erol Alkan, plus Blur guitarist Graham Coxon, Bowie’s favourite pianist Mike Garson, who provides elegant, epic flourishes to Flourish, and Swedish singer/songwriter Tove Lo, who joins the party for the intoxicating disco torch tune Give It All Up. The Moroder collaboration Tonight United is a disappointing banal shout-out to come together post-pandemic but the playful Anniversary references their early eighties heyday with callbacks to older songs, while Beautiful Lies is an the electro melodrama worthy of their fellow New Romantic Marc Almond.

Fun video! So many impersonators, but some real celebrities too, right?? Those young guys doing Duran Duran I swear look almost like sons of each of them! Wonder if they are. I really haven't read about the video at all.

This is very solid, probably their best since the Wedding Album or even before. It sounds very 80’s Duran Duran but without sounding outdated or chasing trends. Tonight United, Wing, Hammerhead and Falling are some of my favorites.

I enjoyed the album overall. It was really cohesive. It's a good balance of the sound we have known and loved from them but it's freshened up too.

Oh, I dont know about the world today but this generation Z is missing out on a fantastic album. I've been going back through their whole discography and if I had to rank their ten best albums based on the number of tracks I like from them...
1. Rio 2. FUTURE PAST 3. Seven and The Ragged Tiger 4. Duran Duran (1983)- the US re-issue 5. Notorious 6. So Red The Rose (Arcadia faction) 7. All You Need Is Now 8. Duran Duran (The Wedding Album) 9. Paper Gods 10. Astronaut
Future Past has big hits and it should have gotten a bigger attention from the label even though the guys are past 60 (Well Nick should be almost 60) --> Invisible, Anniversary, Wing, Hammerhead and More Joy! standout for me....
If this is their last album ....I would say it was done really really WELL!!!!

www.billboard.com/music/music-news/duran-duran-simon-le-bon-excited-rock-hall-induction-1235067937/Duran Duran’s Simon Le Bon Is ‘Excited’ to Finally Get Into Rock Hall: ‘We’re Not a Grudge-Bearing Bunch of People’ "Rock n' roll is such a broad term these days," the frontman also said, addressing Dolly Parton's earlier request to have her nomination withdrawn. Two days after Duran Duran‘s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was announced, frontman Simon Le Bon is still buzzing over the news. “We are so excited and honored to be recognized in this way. It’s the closest thing you’re ever gonna get to a rock n’ roll knighthood,” Le Bon tells Billboard by Zoom from Sicily, where the band is playing the next concert of its world tour supporting 2021’s Future Past album. He adds that “there is a faction, some people who felt we should’ve been up for it years before,” given that Duran Duran has been eligible since 2007 but never nominated until this year, “and that the Foundation had ignored us and [they] maybe bear a grudge about that. Generally we’re not a grudge-bearing bunch of people. We live in the moment, and this is something that’s happening now. “It’s another chapter in an incredible story that is called Duran Duran.” Duran Duran was also the top vote-getter in this year’s public fan voting; its tally of 934,880 nearly 300,000 more than second-place Eminem. “That’s one place you really want to be No. 1,” says Le Bon, who along with bassist John Taylor inducted Roxy Music into the Rock Hall in 2019. “I was blown away by the dedication and the application and the sheer determination of our fans and everybody else who voted for us, keeping us in that No. 1 slot for almost the entirety of the public vote. I am so grateful to all those people for doing that because it’s shone a light on us … that catches in the mind of all the people who are voting.” Le Bon says he’s particularly looking forward to meeting fellow Birmingham, Englanders Judas Priest at the Nov. 5 ceremony in Los Angeles, as well as Dolly Parton. He acknowledges the various debates about this year’s inductees and who belongs in a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but he takes a broad view of what the distinction entails. “Some people think it should just be there for, like, blues artists, guitar bands and ‘rock and rollers,’ and I just don’t think that’s realistic, personally,” he explains. “I think it’s got bigger than that. I think Dolly Parton made some very interesting points when she said, ‘Don’t vote for me’; I got the feeling that what she was really saying was, ‘There are other people who need this accolade more than I do.’ But she got voted in, and she deserves it every bit, I think. “Rock n’ roll is such a broad term these days. I think it’s about people who have done something meaningful in contemporary music. Personally, that’s what I think it should be.” The induction will also give Le Bon and Taylor — along with keyboardist Nick Rhodes and drummer Roger Taylor — an opportunity to reunite with original Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor as well as his successor Warren Cuccurullo, who was with the band from 1989 to 2001. Le Bon says the group has been in touch with both and has started discussions about performing together at the ceremony, though details are still being finalized. Meanwhile, the beat goes on for the band, which will be touring in Europe and the U.K. through July, then starts a 14-date North American run on Aug. 19 in Welch, Minn., and wraps with three September shows at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. “We’re just taking it easy and building it up slowly,” Le Bon says. “We’re not jumping off the high board and into the deep end. We’ve all had to be so careful because of COVID; you can really end up on a banana skin if you’re not careful. But the shows have been great so far and getting better. [The Future Past songs] fit incredibly well into our set. We’re playing songs that were written a year ago that sound like classic Duran Duran, but they’ve got a modern edge to them. That’s what we really wanted to achieve.” There was, of course, a seven-year gap before Future Past, but Le Bon and company aren’t yet committing to what they might do next. “We’re not even thinking about another album,” he says. “We’re doing a world tour. That’ll come to an end, then we’ll all probably want to take at least six months off, maybe a year off. And after that I know what’ll be happening. We’ll be going, ‘Oh, maybe it’s time to go do what we do, go back into the studio again.’ Like I said, we live very much in the moment. The job really forces you to live in the moment.”
