I'd say the Beyonce era could be included here. Wouldn't change my vote but I think the huge-but-not-there buildup, surprise release, critical reception, strong sales, visual album, VMA performance make up a pretty iconic era.

You mean the barely over three million sales? And the visual album that attracted a lot of hype but did nothing to change the fact that a couple of her peers continue to outpace her with their video views on Youtube? You mean her lone Hot 100 10 hit and the lack of other significant singles? I could think of a ton of eras that would deserve consideration more.

2 million US sales in 2014 is nothing to sneeze at - she did sell 600,000+ digital copies in 3 days - no album released since has even crossed 750k total, including physical.
Also, it looks like this thread is only considering peak eras of the biggest pop stars of the last couple of decades - that highlights why Beyonce deserves consideration over her younger contemporaries. If we're talking about icons with iconic eras, I don't see what's so strange about including Beyonce. Strong sales, very strong reviews/reception, Video Vanguard award, massive hype. And a great album at that.

You're talking about freak of nature successes, some of them. I'd put Adele's "21" there before I consider putting Bey's latest.

It had one massive single (which was a Soundtrack single) that spurred sales (in 1998). No, 2 million albums sold isn't a massive Adele-like number but it's certainly not apples-to-apples to compare Beyonce to the albums in this poll - all released in the 80s and 90s. Again, a key reason I suggested Beyonce to join these and not 21 or The Fame/Fame Monster or whatever other major diva era we've recently seen is that this poll is highlighting only the biggest names/artists that had long-haul careers as world-beating pop stars. And it's not just sales, Beyonce is a much stronger artistic statement than Celine's, Mariah's or Britney's - we'll see if she can win AOTY (not that the Grammys are the end-all-be-all of artistry but it'd be a nice cap on the era). The general pop cultural power/impact and overwhelming respect from the industry and general public that surrounds this era is very strong.

Oh you seem mad and hostile? I can't muster mad over someone I don't even know. I'm a positive source of energy so I must tune you out and rebuke you. Nice to meet you! LOL happy Sunday :) So you don't have anything to say. Ok, I have dissed you. And now you think you can get away with it by telling me this. Since I think you're taking this hard and we are no closer today than yesterday of you actually spanking me. Let me just sincerely apologize from the bottom of my heart in hopes u will no longer respond back

You don't have to apologize, just say what you think, instead of speaking like you were insulting me in the first way. There are almost always people who think it's not right, but I don't matter it. I probably should've said this right away in my first respond.

The general pop cultural power/impact and overwhelming respect from the industry and general public that surrounds this era is very strong. Yes, this is about the pop ICONS. According to me, and many people I think, Britney is the last real icon, like Kurt Cobain was the last great rock star. It's not just sales, but sales are very important for how big a artist was, is or will be and or it's or will become a pop icon. Maby Adele is a icon, but there are more artists who had big sales as many as Adele has now, but in my opinion, and many I think, they're not that big. In my opinion Adele can become a icon. An icon, in my opinion, which Beyonce has never been. Yes, I think Celine is a icon, especially thanks to titanic, maby not as big as the others, but a icon. In my opinion it's not about long-haul careers. I think Britney has her icon status thanks to her first two albums, which only lasted for about 2 years. I think that if she died or something which ended her career, she would still be a icon. Even if MJ's career would have been ended after Thriller, he would still be the biggest pop icon.
