I had this idea after seeing the sabre14 / Ten Pound Hammer thread "Guess The Song" but anyway ill post clues on things country stars have done and you guess who done it, here goes: 1. My wife recorded a song in 2010 that i was originally going to record. Im glad she did though because it became her first Billboard number one 2. I was influenced to sing country music after being in the audience for Johnny Cash's Folsom Prison show. I went on to collect 38 No.1's 3. I died from alcohol poisoning the same year that some of the biggest names in country music emrged like Garth Brooks and Alan Jackson 4. Every song of mine except for one has either been certified gold or platinum. This kinda thing didn't happen in 1994! 5. I recorded an album in 2005 that was a sort of therapy for me after i lost my wife to suicide. Feel free to answer/add more!

At first I thought this was all the same person!
Agree with all of the above, but I'll throw out a guess for #4: assuming you mean country single when you say song, I think that is John Denver, but I could be way off.
EDIT: I misread that, yea Aldean is probably right. I thought it was someone who did that before '94.

At first I thought this was all the same person! LOL, me too. At first, I was like "how could someone die in 1989 yet be married to someone who has their first #1 hit in 2010? Oh, each clue is for a different person. " I got one: "I'm a well-known country artist who's covered Billy Joel, Patsy Cline, and Bob Dylan."

You guys are good. Probably would have been harder if I didn't include Billy Joel ("Shameless").

"My debut and second career single was actually 10 years before my third career single. It was on a different label and I had a different last name. My second album unfortunately went unreleased" James Wesley, formerly known as James Prosser I believe.

More
1. I stuck up for my buddy at the CMAs after preforming his song "Choices"
2. I'm usually a funny guy however a serious song of mine last year caught a lot of flack
3. I had a top 5 debut single a couple years ago yet my label still wouldn't release ny album
4. I had hits on the charts that were covers of The Eagles and Steve Earle
5. I'm like a comeback kid, even if I have a bluegrass album that didn't do well or a song miss the top 40 i can always follow it up with back to back No.1 hits!

Okay, here's one that might be kinda tough.
Bobby Bare and Deryl Dodd both had a hit with one of my songs, but I was the one who wrote and originally recorded it. Who am I?
