Also, the Alternative chart is very competitive right now, with so many rising songs, including other hot new releases from well-known artists. I'm just happy this still has a good bullet.

I'm not too worried nor for this nor "Coming For You" these are some damn, good songs and alternative; sooner or later, will be forced to clean house, and naturally let em rise to the top.

I never really got into this band except for Drive...so I had zero expectations...but to my surprise, I'm kinda digging this

It takes less spins to make top 20 on Active than Alternative these days, y'know. If the spin counts were higher for active than alternative then I'd be alarmed, but there's like a 200-spin gap between both formats right now. That's why I'm not panicking yet. I'm more worried about The Offspring's latest single as its bullet is now below 100 on Alternative Now I'm more worried about this than The Offspring with its bullet increasing again whereas this song's bullet is continuing to decrease. But that may change again.

This may have been mentioned somewhere in this thread already, but is there a date for the album release?

Cool video. Definitely wasn't expecting the dancing. Love the 'Beat It\West Side Story' homage.

Lol at that video. That choreography does not fit the song at all.
As for the song itself, I don't know. I enjoyed it on first listen, but it didn't feel like it had as much replay value as I'd wanted it to. Idk, maybe my standards are just too high since to me Incubus is probably the most consistently great singles artist from the batch of huge 2000s modern rock radio acts. With the exception of maybe three or four singles everything from "New Skin" to "Promises, Promises" ranks in B+ to A+ territory in my rankings, even the non-alt singles like "Are You In".

oh, so I guess you're fine with Incubus potentially missing top 10 then.

Incubus have little to no chance at the top 10, and honestly with how deep the competition is gonna be in about a month that's really nothing to be ashamed of. Assuming the new Muse and Of Monsters and Men songs are as good as anticipated and Robert Delong stays up there for a few weeks, the only crap song in the top 10 will be "Budapest", and that isn't gonna fall out fast enough for Incubus to realistically get in, especially with The Offspring, Joywave, Black Keys, and now Saint Motel ahead of them (4 good songs).
When you really think about it, they'll probably stall at #16 or 17 since there's also Vance Joy to worry about as well as Alabama Shakes and Nate Ruess coming up fast behind them. Besides, it's not like this is in the same league as their earlier singles, so a top 20 (1000-ish spin peak) showing with 20-week longevity is more than enough respect and is fair for this song.
It matters not whether or not I'm "fine with them missing the top 10". I'm just happy they put out a decent lead single.

Although I'd love to see this go Top 10, at this point I'm hoping it doesn't fall out of the Top 20. I'd be fine with a "The Only Way Out" - like run, although I hope it can stay in the Top 20 longer than that song did. Although I'm going to have to disagree that "My Type" is better than this - that song would be a lot better without the horns. In any case, at least one of the two established artists (The Offspring) have a pretty good (?) shot at Top 10.

Another new song called "Trust Fall." I like it even better than "Absolution Calling." Shoulda made a radio edit of that and made it the lead single. Very good song, I hope that's the follow-up to "Absolution Calling".

oh, so I guess you're fine with Incubus potentially missing top 10 then. Since I love more than half of the top ten and there are other songs charting concurrent to it that are of higher quality, yes Don't get me wrong I would've liked for it to go top 10 as a fan but with the competition just way too strong right now (and a large factor in that is the huge presence of new singles from established acts shooting up the charts so don't bring out "neglecting core artists" here) I wasn't really expecting it to in the first place

Would I rather see it at #3 as opposed to a new song by Incubus? Hell no. I think there are songs above this that are better than this, however, I would still love to see "Absolution Calling" leapfrog them simply because it's a new Incubus song. Right now, the top ten is one of the best it's been in a really long time. But still, Incubus should be there along with the rest.

Right now, the top ten is one of the best it's been in a really long time. But still, Incubus should be there along with the rest. This is definitely a case of differing personal takes on our parts about what makes songs deserve to reach higher peaks. From your past posts I'm well-aware that you feel that artist name alone is a big part (if not the most important part) of that - and I can see why you'd feel that way and won't try to change that, because a lot of people certainly feel the same way and I'm no stranger to that myself. But in most cases I try to take the quality of the tracks themselves in higher regard when it comes to making my mind about this stuff. If I was a big fan of a certain artist and I had to choose between that artist releasing a merely OK track vs. a newer, less-established artist releasing a really great track then obviously I'd root more for the latter. This is one of those cases.

Well, the time was coming for Incubus, they got their first hit way back in early 2000, all artists/bands fade eventually and since 2012 for older bands its been a mess, I hope this at least hits top 10 on Active and top 15 on Alt, now I'm worried by Linkin Park's comeback on Alt. :|

I love Incubus and this song, but I have to agree with shakermaker here. At the end of the day, songs need to succeed on their own merits. This honestly does happen to be one of my favorite songs on the chart right now, but if the average listeners don't feel the same way, so be it. This song has gotten as much of a free pass as it's going to get, and while that's disappointing for me, it's not unfair.
I don't think "Trust Fall" would have fared any better either. I guess you could argue that it's more in line with what people were expecting of them, but "Absolution" is more in line with today's Alt climate, so if evens out. (I personally like both songs about equally.)
At this point, the only way I could see them redeeming themselves on Alternative is if they came out with another song like "Drive" or "Love Hurts" - hey, it worked for Pearl Jam with "Sirens". But I have a feeling they're not too worried about radio airplay nowadays.
One more thing - I do think the lukewarm reception to this, contrasted with the success of "Something From Nothing", confirms my suspicion that "heaviness" is not as much of a negative factor as people here seem to think, and that it's more a matter of many late 90s/early 2000s rock bands no longer being seen as relevant to Alt listeners. I'm in that camp myself, and Incubus happen to be an exception for me, but apparently average listeners don't feel the same way.

Absolution Calling is sure enough to go top 10. At least on Active. Doesn't really matter to me what Rock chart they peak on; as long as it goes top 10. BTW, the new song is also Top 10 worthy.

Don't be surprised if this loses its bullet today or the next few days as several other songs will be affected too; probably due to spins for the new Mumford & Sons song. I don't think it's done yet.

I'd be very disappointed if this song misses Top 10, but it's gonna go Top 10 on Active so it's okay.
