Do you not see the judgment inherent to your post? When did "fun" become synonymous with unintelligent or immature? I'd say "fun" became synonymous with unintelligent the second a line like "baby you a song" was deemed acceptable as a country lyric myself. ^I think you mean unintelligence or a lack of intelligence. If you're going to critique a song for being dumb....

I was going to post this in the news section, but considering the subject matter of this song and some of the above posts I thought it should go here. They recently did an interview with Billboard magazine and were very open and candid about their use of cannabis. You can read more at Taste of Country. For the record, I have no problem at all with their reference of pot in this song or any other song for that matter. Living in liberal Austin it is widely accepted that many dabble in pot now and then, while those who smoke cigarettes are the ones looked down upon way more here. Just last weekend I was out downtown and the smell of cannabis was very much everywhere in the air. It is the other not so subtle lyrics of this song that make me gag.

Every couple of weeks we end up with a debate at our station over a new song and someone will undoubtedly say " . . . It doesn't sound Country!"
My answer to that statement is . . . its what country music is today. Like it or not.
My wife and I went to a Jason Aldean / FGL concert a few months back and we were the oldest people that I saw in attendance (I'm 39 by the way). I have no doubt that Sun Daze will be the latest big hit for Florida Georgia Line. I would be mildly surprised if it didn't top the chart. Its one of those songs that just sounds good on the Radio. I'm not a huge FGL fan by the way. They just happen to be what's hot right now.
Country Radio is in a place today that reminds me a lot of the early 90's. When many Stations went to the "Hot Country" Format. Traditional Country has an audience, New Country has an audience. I think we're just approaching a point where the format will begin to segment a little more than we've seen in the last 10 - 15 years.

I'm honestly to the point where I don't so much care if a song sounds country as long as the lyrics aren't atrocious, disgusting, Urban Dictionary-worthy pieces of crap like this. But here I sit as this just races past good songs that deserve to be hits because these guys are the current flavor. Insert eye roll here.

I guess they feel like they are "untouchable," in their new found fame that they can freely admit to the use of pot. It will be interesting to see if they get detained or checked by the authorities with their "honest and open," declaration. Kind of stupid if you ask me. If that is your thing, keep it to yourself. I am not interested, unless it affects your show or you get in a vehicle while under the influence and kill or injure someone.

Like they can admit they smoke it all they want, but unless there's a specific instance where it's found on them, they can't get in trouble for anything. I don't think Eric Church and Kacey Musgraves were locked up over their song lyrics, so it's not really an issue beyond the fact that radio is going to wanna censor that reference. Honestly, there's enough lyrical travesties in Florida Georgia Line's catalog that are much worse (like the pink umbrella line in this very sign).

True. Pot is actually legal in some states. My husband wouldn't arrest someone for having it in their possession unless it was a ridiculous amount or they were behind the wheel and were "under the influence." So unless they have a bale of it on the bus, they are pretty much safe from being questioned and detained, lol! I personally think they may have shot themselves in the foot by this omission. Or perhaps they will gain more misguided popularity than ever before. Blech.

Obviously, as one listens to their lyrics, people can see that Kacey Musgraves and Zac Brown Band most likely toke one up from time to time, but they have seen no backlash whatsoever. One could even argue that Eric Church's connection to pot has made him even more popular, and also helps draw in the more rebellious fan bases.

This may be a farfetched prediction, but even though this single is only being slowly promoted now, I could see it gaining steam by the beginning of next year. After hearing the radio edit, I can definitely see it being another #1 single for them after "Dirt" loses steam and they start pushing this one more. By the time spring break rolls around, I can see it being a radio hit, and after that I can even see it being pushed in the Top 40 market with an alternate mix or some kind of remix like they always do with their big songs. Most of their fans are in their 20's anyway, and I can see very few of their fans being offended when they buy the album and realize the unedited version says "get stoned" instead of "stay home." That's just my prediction anyway.

Itsurffriendjoel--Welcome to the board! Given the unprecedented plunge in spins (for them) for 'Dirt' so far this week, don't be surprised if many of the stations bailing on it in droves add 'Sun Daze' to their playlists at once, possibly as soon as next week.
I expect this song to be in the top 10 by Christmas Day, which is a mere nine weeks from today if their chart history is any guide.

It's disturbing picturing "Do You Hear What I Hear" or "The First Noel" being followed by this song on the radio come December.

I can't believe they're releasing this. It's easily the worst song on their new album, which isn't that great to begin with, and it's basically going to undo everything "Dirt" did to prove they aren't just party people. The lyrics are horrendously bad, and it doesn't even have a good hook to make up for it. Very bad choice and probably my least favorite song ever from them.

Am I the only person here who actually likes this song?
Of course, the lyrics are nothing special but they get the point across. I've heard lyrically worse songs from the genre lately ("Damn pretty girl you went 'n' done it again/gone and turned your sexy all the way up to 10" and "Girl you got the beat right, killin' in your Levis/High on your lovin's got me buzzin' like a streetlight").
I don't care much for the sexual innuendos (between this one and Burnin' it Down, I feel weird listening around my parents). The smoking thing really isn't an issue, as most of us here have agreed it's somewhat common in the genre.
But overall, this song is extraordinarily catchy, it feels more like a country sound than some of the other stuff and the banjo solo seals the deal on this one. I accept FGL being somewhat immoral animals because I do like their music and they are outstanding performers. They have legitimate good voices (musically, regardless of your taste for Tyler) and you can't argue the success of their songwriting skills.

Am I the only person here who actually likes this song? No you're not the only one, I like it as well. It's great at what it is: and extremely catchy fun party type tune. My only issue is the timing of the single doesn't make sense, I would have rather seen this real eased for Spring or Summer. And the lyrics don't bother me either, but the "if I'm lucky I might get laid" line does come across sleazy. I actually think that line is more offensive than the pink umbrella one.

^ dm2081 echoed the sentiment of @nickv1025's post. Well, dm2081 did not add anything. Yes, he did, it's just inside the quote box.

"Sun Daze" is most added this week on MB with 69 adds (there's a joke to be made with the number but I'll resist).

This song flies 9 spots from 38-29 on Billboard tonight, in just its 3rd chart week.
I also just realized earlier today that they never gave an adds date for this song (and it obviously won't get one now, nor does it/did it need one).

The video actually makes me like the song more; it reminds me of Brad's River Bank performance at the ACMs (?).
Love their dogs in the video, and the ending, especially. They managed to take a song I found annoying & put a smile on my face while watching/listening.

Yeah that is a solid video, I'm glad that they had a lot of fun with it. I don't think this song is going to have any trouble topping the charts.

I agree, it's kind of nice to hear a couple beach-type songs in the winter. It's supposed to snow here tomorrow, so I know I'll be looking for some escapism soon.
