It's official: Barbra Streisand's Partners album debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, making the icon the first act to achieve No. 1 albums in each of the last six decades. The Columbia Records effort sold 196,000 copies in the week ending Sept. 21 according to Nielsen SoundScan, and also marks Streisand's 10th No. 1 album. Partners' opening sum is the largest sales week for a female artist's pop album in 2014, and Streisand's biggest sales frame since Christmas week of 1997. Her last album to sell more in a week was Higher Ground, which shifted 402,000 in the frame ending Dec. 28, 1997. www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6259282/barbra-streisand-no-1-partners

I put a footnote to Michael Jackson, as Number Ones, after his passing, reached No. 1 on Comprehensive Albums.

FGL's album has no business doing less than 200K (I anticipate this being the next "disaster vs. okay for 2014" debate on Pulse, because you can argue it should be way, way more than that based on radio presence, crossover appeal and debut album shelf life). No way this band should sell less than Brantley freaking Gilbert.
Aldean's will definitely do over 200K, as mentioned before (Burnin it Down is selling better than it should be based on airplay, and his pre-order instant grats are killing it). Kind of thinking Blake won't.

www.billboard.com/articles/news/6259315/barbra-streisand-debuts-at-no-1-on-billboard-200-chris-brown-at-no-2Barbra Streisand Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard 200, Chris Brown at No. 2By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles | September 24, 2014 Tim McGraw, George Strait and Train all notch Top 5 debuts as well. As reported yesterday, Barbra Streisand earns her 10th No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart with the debut of Partners. The all-star collaborations set sold 196,000 copies in the week ending Sept. 21, according to Nielsen SoundScan. With the arrival at No. 1, Streisand becomes the only act with No. 1 albums in each of the last six decades. The new Columbia Records album was released on Sept. 16 and features duets with the likes of Josh Groban, Blake Shelton, Michael Buble and Billy Joel. She last hit the top with 2009's Love Is the Answer. Partners' opening sum is the largest sales week for a female artist in 2014, and Streisand's biggest sales frame since Christmas week of 1997. Her last album to sell more in a week was Higher Ground, which shifted 402,000 in the frame ending Dec. 28, 1997. Partners also starts with a higher sales figure than anticipated. On Sept. 17, industry forecasters initially pegged the set to start with 150,000. Two days later, that projection grew to 175,000. The larger-than-expected sales launch can be owed to publicity Streisand generated during the week, an attractive $7.99 price for the set at iTunes and Amazon MP3, and the album's all-star guest list. During the new album's release week, she performed on NBC's The Tonight Show (on Sept. 15, and it was her first proper visit to late night TV in more than 50 years), and also stopped by ABC's Good Morning America (Sept. 16) and The View (Sept. 18). With a 10th No. 1, she ties for the third-most No. 1s in history with Elvis Presley (who is featured on Partners) and Bruce Springsteen. Ahead of them are the Beatles, with 19, and Jay Z, with 13. (Streisand continues to hold the record for the most No. 1 albums among women.) Streisand's first No. 1 album came nearly 50 years ago: People hit No. 1 on the chart dated Oct. 31, 1964. Streisand's Partners is one of seven albums to debut in the top 10 of the new Billboard 200 chart, where the entire top five are new arrivals. It's the first time the top five are debuts in a year, since the Oct. 5, 2013-dated chart. Chris Brown's X starts at No. 2 with 146,000 -- his best sales week since 2011's F.A.M.E. bowed with 270,000. The album before X, Fortune, entered at No. 1 with 135,000 in 2012. In total, this is Brown's sixth top 10 -- the entirety of his output. Country star Tim McGraw is up next, as his Sundown Heaven Town bows at No. 3 with 71,000. It's his 16th top 10 album. It also enters at No. 1 on Top Country Albums -- his 15th No. 1. McGraw's last studio effort, 2013's Two Lanes of Freedom, entered at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with 107,000 (and No. 1 on Top Country Albums). Another country titan, George Strait, clocks in at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 with The Cowboy Rides Away: Live From AT&T Stadium (51,000). The guest-laden set captures Strait's last show of his final tour, and gives Strait his 18th top 10 album. It's only the fourth live album to reach the top 10 in 2014. Train chugs in at No. 5 with Bulletproof Picasso, selling 50,000 in its first week. It's the band's fifth top 10 set, and follows 2012's California 37, which debuted and peaked at No. 4 with 75,000. OneRepublic's Native makes a huge leap up the chart, flying 57-6 with 49,000 (and a gain of 840 percent), after the Google Play store discounted the album to 99 cents during the tracking week. Courtesy of the cheap price, the set (which is in its 78th week on the chart) earns its second-largest sales week, after only its debut frame (60,000). Maroon 5's V slides 2-7 with 34,000 (down 57 percent) and last week's No. 1, Lecrae's Anomaly, descends 1-8 with just over 31,000 (down 65 percent). Rock band Motionless In White scores its best sales week ever, as its Reincarnate debuts at No. 9 with 31,000. The group's previous best week came in 2012, when Infamous sold 10,000 to debut at No. 53. That album has so far sold 83,000. To round out the top 10: Slash's World On Fire, featuring Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators, enters at No. 10 with 29,000. It's Slash's third top 10 set, and his second with Kennedy and The Conspirators. Their last collaboration, 2012's Apocalyptic Love, debuted and peaked at No. 4 with 38,000 in its first week. Over on the Digital Songs chart, Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" regains the No. 1 position (294,000 downloads sold; down 5 percent), bumping Meghan Trainor's "All About That Bass" down to No. 2 with 282,000 (down 10 percent). "Bass'" total sales have now surpassed 2 million downloads (total through Sept. 21: 2.28 million). "Bang Bang," by Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj, holds at No. 3 with 144,000 (down 2 percent) while Iggy Azalea's "Black Widow," featuring Rita Ora, moves up one rung to No. 4 with 121,000 (down 5 percent). Tove Lo's "Habits (Stay High)" zips 13-5 with 107,000 (up 51 percent), marking its sixth consecutive weekly sales gain and first visit to the top 10. Nicki Minaj's "Anaconda" is stationary at No. 6 with 103,000 (down 19 percent), Clean Bandit's "Rather Be," featuring Jess Glynne, is a non-mover at No. 7 with 83,000 (up 4 percent) and Jeremih's "Don't Tell 'Em," featuring YG, climbs 11-8 with 79,000 (up 8 percent). Closing out the top 10 is Jason Aldean's "Burnin' It Down" (8-9 with 78,000; down less than 1 percent) and Sia's "Chandelier" (12-10 with 73,000; up 1 percent). Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending Sept. 21) totaled 4.36 million units, up 5 percent compared with the sum last week (4.15 million) and down 4 percent compared with the comparable sales week of 2013 (4.55 million). Year to date album sales stand at 171.3 million, down 14 percent compared to the same total at this point last year (200 million). Digital track sales this past week totaled 18.17 million downloads, down 2 percent compared with last week (18.54 million) and down 17 percent stacked next to the comparable week of 2013 (21.92 million). Year to date track sales are at 830.46 million, down 13 percent compared to the same total at this point last year (954.3 million). Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2013 when: Drake's Nothing Was the Same debuted at No. 1 with 658,000 copies, followed by Kings of Leon's also-debuting Mechanical Bull at No. 2 (110,000).

^Jason Aldean , will definitely sell over 200k. Blake Shelton, Florida Georgia Line and U2 are also possibilities. Based on the buzz and the nice placement of grat tracks, do you think Aldean will crack 300k? Or is 250K probably more realistic? I know he's done more (Night Train 409K), but in this environment....

music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart-watch/chart-watch-barbra-tops-chris-brown-182520064.htmlChart Watch: Barbra Tops Chris BrownBy Paul Grein, Yahoo! Chart Watch A legendary Funny Girl beat out the bad boy of R&B for the #1 spot on this week’s Billboard 200. Barbra Streisand's Partners debuts at #1, holding Chris Brown's X to a #2 debut. Streisand is sure to be verklempt by the news: This is the sixth decade in which she has had a #1 album. But Brown probably won’t be happy. His last two studio albums, F.A.M.E. and Fortune, both debuted at #1. Streisand’s album sold 196K copies in its first week, more than any other album by a female artist so far this year. It tops Lana Del Rey's Ultraviolence (182K) and Miranda Lambert's Platinum (180K). This is Streisand’s biggest opening since Higher Ground opened with sales of 207K in November 1997. It’s her biggest one-week sales tally since that album sold 402K copies during Christmas week of that year. Partners just missed out on becoming her seventh #1 in the U.K. It enters The Official U.K. Albums Chart at #2, behind The Script's No Sound Without Silence. I wrote much more about Streisand’s album in a separate blog we posted last week. If you missed it, here’s a link. Even though it debuts at #2 (146K), X sold more copies than Brown’s last album did when it debuted at #1 (135K). Timing is everything. This is Brown’s sixth studio album. All six have made the top 10. This week’s entire top five consists of debuts. It’s the first time that’s been true since the week ending Sept. 22, 2013. Tim McGraw's 13th studio album, Sundown Heaven Town, debuts at #3 (71K). It’s his 16th top 10 album. The album enters Top Country Albums at #1. It’s his 15th #1 country album. Only two other artists in the nearly 51-year history of the country album chart have amassed 15 or more #1 albums. George Strait leads with 25. Merle Haggard also had 15. George Strait's The Cowboy Rides Away: Live From AT&T Stadium, which was recorded at his farewell concert on June 7, enters The Billboard 200 at #4 (51K). It’s his 19th top 10 album, which is more than any other artist (from any genre) has amassed since 1991, when Nielsen SoundScan began tracking music sales. It’s also more than any other country artist in chart history. This is Strait’s third live album. It follows For The Last Time: Live From The Astrodome (#7 in 2003) and Live At Texas Stadium (a collabo with Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett, #11 in 2007). All three albums were recorded in Texas venues, which is appropriate for this proud Texan. Strait’s album is nearly as star-studded as Streisand’s collection. It features Vince Gill, Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Sheryl Crow, Martina McBride, Faith Hill, Alan Jackson, Miranda Lambert, Kenny Chesney and Ray Benson. Train's seventh studio album, Bulletproof Picasso, debuts at #5 (50K). It’s the group’s fifth top 10 album. Train is directly followed on this week’s chart by two similar pop-rock (what used to be called “soft rock”) groups. OneRepublic's Native rebounds from #57 to #6 in its 78th week (49K), thanks to a 99-cent sale in the Google Play store. Maroon5's V drops from #2 to #7 in its third week (34K). Lecrae’s Anomaly drops from #1 to #8 in its second week (31K) … Motionless In White's third album, Reincarnate, debuts at #9 (31K). This is the metalcore band’s first album to crack the top 40. World On Fire by Slash featuring Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators debuts at #10 (29K). It’s the 10th top 10 album of Slash’s career, with three solo albums preceded by six albums with Guns N’ Roses and one with Velvet Revolver. This is Slash’s second top 10 album in a row which features Kennedy & the Conspirators. They also teamed for Apocalyptic Love, which hit #4 in 2012. Guardians Of The Galaxy drops out of the top 10. This is the first time since the week ending Dec. 8, 2013, that no soundtracks are listed in the top 10. Led Zeppelin's 2007 compilation Mothership tops the 2 million sales mark this week … Katy Perry's Prism tops the 1.5 million sales mark in its 48th week. It’s not far off the pace of her previous album, Teenage Dream, which took 41 weeks to reach 1.5 million in sales. Coming Attractions: Look for Kenny Chesney's The Big Revival and Tony Bennett/Lady Gaga's Cheek To Cheek to vie for #1 next week. Early projections have Chesney out front, 125K to 115K. Also due: alt-J'sThis Is All Yours (55K), Pentatonix's PTX, Vol. III (40K), 5 Seconds of Summer's EP Amnesia (35K),Joe Bonamassa's Different Shades Of Blue (24K) and Jackie Evancho's Awakening (21K).

"Streisand’s album sold 196K copies in its first week, more than any other album by a female artist so far this year"
That is so sad. Album sales are completely gone and the music industry needs to modify their Business Model or die.

The music industry is fine. Album sales will not make or break the survival of the industry. There are more ways to make money than off an overpriced CD.

Country album sales: roughstock.com/news/country-album-sales-report-09-24-2014/ Country Album Sales Report: September 24, 2014Posted by Matt Bjorke on September 24, 2014 at 6:02 pm Tim McGraw and George Strait lead our list of releases. Country Music holds 10 of the Top 41 slots in America this week with their newest collection of album releases. Tim McGraw’s 15th #1 album, Sundown Heaven Town debuts at #1 on our chart with a #3 Top 200 Billboard Albums chart debut and 71k scanned. George Strait’s The Cowboy Rides Away: Live From AT&T Field is next with a #4 Top 200 debut with sales surpassing 51k sold, a remarkable number for a live collection of music. Last week’s #1, Lee Brice’s I Don’t Dance sits at #3 on the rundown with Luke Bryan’s juggernaut Crash My Party remaining at #4 this week with Garth Brooks’ The Ulitimate Hits returning to stores (in a re-configued form) to debut at #9 with over 9,000 fans taking the album home. Top Ten Recap Dustin Lynch slides from #2 to #6 with Where It’s At. Dustin’s career is in overdrive with the album and a multi-week #1 with the title track, his first #1 single. Brantley Gilbert’s Just As I Am sits at #7, Florida Georgia Line’s Here’s To The Good Times sits at #8, Brad Paisley’s Moonshine In The Trunk sits at #9 and Miranda Lambert’s Platinum sits at #42 Notable Album Recap Alabama’s Angels Among Us project leads our notables this week. Chase Rice’s Ignite The Night continues to sell nicely as the album has now shifted nearly 80k albums. Eric Church’s The Outsiders will soon start selling even more with “Talladega” becoming a new single while Christmas is around the corner. Sam Hunt’s x2c EP has now moved 25,000 copies and if the label’s smart they’ll transfer those downloads to the Montevallo album that’s coming up, a lean 10 track album featuring every song from x2c. That’ll give Sam Hunt nearly 25,000 sales for the debut album, an album which could conceivably sell more given that x2c has been digital and iTunes only. Rounding out our rundown is Scotty McCreery’s See You Tonight. The album has now sold 250k. Top 5 Country Albums - September 24, 2014* *Top 5 Country Album Chart Numbers rounded to nearest thousand. "Streisand’s album sold 196K copies in its first week, more than any other album by a female artist so far this year" That is so sad. Album sales are completely gone and the music industry needs to modify their Business Model or die. The music industry has not hinged on album sales for a very long time. The only thing they need to modify is pricing structure, because consumers no longer place the same value on a piece of plastic with liner notes that they used.
