AmazonMP3 was almost 25% of the paid download market in 2013. It's smaller than itunes (about 65%) but it's not insignificant.

She's pretty much the biggest female artist ever in America. lol Her debut was the bestselling album released in 2006. Fearless was the bestselling album released in 2008. Speak Now was the bestselling album released in 2010. RED was the bestselling album released in 2012. 1989 will be the bestselling album released in 2014. No other female is ever doing it.

At this rate, she might be the best selling album of 2015 too.

Not to cut on her achievements because this is all ridiculously impressive but Speak Now is the second best-selling album released in 2010. Recovery by Eminem is #1.

Wonder how well she should have done if the exclusive deal was with Wal-Mart rather than Target. Didn't those exclusives used to do monster numbers.
Adele says probably not.

Red's Soun.dScan run in 2012:
01 1,208,000 01 344,000 01 196,000 02 144,000 02 185,000 - certified 3xP 02 136,000 01 168,000 01 208,000 01 275,000 01 241,000
End of 2012 = 3,107,000
I would expect about the same for 1989?

www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/rumormill.cgiYOUR TOP 15: At this point it’s highly probable that Taylor Swift’s 1989 will beat the 1.2m opening of her previous album, 2012’s Red. In doing so, her sales will match about one-fifth of all albums sold this week. *Taylor Swift (Big Machine) 1.2-1.25m *Now 52 (NOW) 90-95k *Sam Hunt (MCA Nashville) 60-65k *Barry Manilow (Verve) 42-47k Jason Aldean (Broken Bow) 40-45k Florida Georgia Line (Republic Nashville) 35-40k *Led Zeppelin “IV” (Rhino) 35-40k Barbra Streisand (Columbia) 30-35k *Black Veil Brides (Lava/Republic) 30-35k *Led Zeppelin “Houses of the Holy” (Rhino) 30-35k *Chris Tomlin (sixstepsrecords) 28-32k Neil Diamond (Capitol) 27-30k Slipknot (Roadrunner) 27-30k Sam Smith (Capitol) 25-28k T.I. (Grand Hustle/Columbia) 24-27k *Debuts

We could use this to test people's theories of labels using tactics to secure achievements. If Big Machine could've padded the total to secure the million sold threshold (had 1989 ended up in the 900k+ region), as some asserted, they should have no trouble padding 70k on top of the 1.25 estimate for the all-time biggest female debut record. :)

This is just pure and utter insanity. I love seeing this happening after even die hards and hue fans like myself had their doubts of her surpassing 1M. She's racing past that figure at godspeed.

Biggest of the 21st century, yeah, there's little no argument, but "ever" is a really strong word considering all the 80s-90s female artists who sold as well or better. I figured that was where spree was coming from with that 'lol.'

I definitely think Taylor is up there in the all-time most successful list, but definitely not the biggest EVER. Not yet anyways...

However you are right, She is right now as huge as anyone (especially in this climate) but despite the incredible out of the gate numbers. In the grand scheme of 80 and 90's diva I have NO IDEA how Duca can say " No other female is ever doing it) That is a bold face lie, with all due respect.

I think it's all about relativity. When someone is releasing an album that is potentially going to outsell the next 100 combined, it's more than just being "huge".
I don't agree with the notion that no female has ever done it, that's ridiculous. But at this point in her career I don't think there should be any doubt that Taylor has captured the nation's attention in a really special way, just as Madonna/Mariah/Whitney/Britney did before her.

It's incredible how she's managed to not only hold on to such an audience, but to expand her strength among the core.
Anyone who doubts her status now only has to wait a few years. She's still very young and being 100% promoted as a contemporary act. There hasn't been much from her team in directly setting her up as a legend so far (and a self-proclaimed mainstream pop album logically isn't the best place to begin that) to the general public, but once they launch that her respect will solidify fast.
Anyone trying to stack her up against the female artists of yesteryear is missing the point, which is that Taylor is easily one of the biggest (and in the US, possibly THE biggest) acts to emerge from this generation. Her astounding success, consistency, acclaim, and love from her audience put her on a very good road to a terrific legacy.

Look if anyone has been paying attention to my posts (and really all of u should've if u were smart). Everyone knows me and Taylor SwifT are not best friends or anything close.
However i'am a music fan and LOVE seeing anyone (maybe not Katy) but anyone putting up mega numbers. Music is amazing and people love it, its the soundtrack to all our lives. They need to support it and buy it and sustain good music. So when one person sells like this, it motivates every bitch to step up her/his game

So, Taylor already has 3 1M+ opening (I'm calling it now, it's just impossible not to), and she still has around 6-7 more album before she hit 40 years old, and probably become a songwriter at that age (We all know a 40+-years-old diva isn't the best idea we have heard, and Taylor probably know that too, especially when she doesn't have a really strong vocal and doesn't have the same appeal that Madonna has). Now, the question is, will she be able to pull another 1M opening in the future to extend her record (Which probably would never be broken unless there's miracle)?

I think it will depend where she goes from here wtith her music. Does she completely leave country, or will she come back with a country album at some point in the future? She could easily have a very long performing career in country, while I doubt she'll be singing Shake It Off 20 years from now.
I'm actually surprised she hasn't written for other people before, which could be a function of her either not wanting to, since her lyrics are all ridiculously personal or the fact that her writing is so distinctive and I'm not sure she could successfully write for someone else and have it come across as authentic.

She wrote a song for Kellie Pickler's sophomore album that went top 10 on the Country chart.

The Amazon number would include physical sales alongside the digital. :)
The Swift numbers are good news for the industry, which needs a boost like this.
And, as always, let's be proud of the consumers purchasing the album, and not just the act itself.

BRACE YOURSELVES: According to our numbers-crunchers, it now looks like Taylor Swift’s 1989 will hit the 1.3 million mark, easily besting the 1.2m of her last album. It also appears that she’ll score the second-biggest digital sales week ever, moving past Beyoncé’s 618k and behind only Lady Gaga’s 662k. It should be noted, however, that Beyoncé scored the impressive number in only three days with her surprise iTunes exclusive, while Gaga benefited from a 99 cent sale at Amazon Digital. (10/31a)
