Ariana Grande tweeted that her album went platinum. We know that "My Everything" isn't even gold based on sales. Then she tweeted that everything will be revealed "tomorrow", so "today", when Billboard revealed the new BB 200. I hope this mean Iggy's album is platinum too then!

The new chart seems quite similar to the sales only chart but with bigger numbers.
Frankly i think this is just an attempt of big labels to make everything shinier, a make up of the numbers and of course taking benefit of his promo machines.
When streaming started to count to the hot 100 i thought that maybe it would be good for indie artist or even talent show contestants (we know radio put a lot of resistance to play their songs no matter if they are good or bad), and i'm pretty sure a contestant with a lot of buzz around him/her could take profit of that, but nobody in this contest in recent years had a great buzz Adam Lambert's style so i still don't know if i was true, and the songs profiting of youtube views only have been awful beyond belief.
People could complain about Tony Bennet or Bette Miller selling more than new starlets, but if they sell more with no radio support they should be higher than people who has this albums exposed to the world and are unable to sell.
Saying that, it's pretty clear that In the lonely hour will pass the million sales before the end of the year and Pentatonix sales are simply amazing, they must be one of the most profitable artists in a long time, with little promo (basically online) and cheap but nice videos they are able to deliver sales like champions, and their peaks and sales are bigger with every album

Don't know if this belongs here actually but here are the global top 10 albums on Spotify in 2014 (it stays unclear if this was Dec-Nov or Jan-Nov)
1. x - Ed Sheeran
2. In The Lonely Hour - Sam Smith
3. The New Classic - Iggy Azalea
4. G I R L - Pharrel Williams
5. My Everything - Ariana Grande
6. V - Maroon 5
7. SEX AND LOVE - Enrique Iglesias
8. Native - OneRepublic
9. 5 Seconds Of Summer - 5 Seconds Of Summer
10. 1000 Forms Of Fear - Sia
Quite interesting chart if you compare this to the US sales chart for example.

Then she tweeted that everything will be revealed "tomorrow", so "today", when Billboard reveals the new BB 200. Wait so are they retro-scoring every album based on TEA and streaming? How far back are they going? Or is Ariana just nuts?

Taylor Swift's '1989' Returns to No. 1 on Revamped Billboard 200The chart now includes on-demand streaming and digital track sales. The newly refreshed Billboard 200 albums chart welcomes a familiar face back to No. 1, as Taylor Swift's 1989 hops back to the top slot (2-1) after a one-week vacation. This is the album's fourth non-consecutive week at No. 1. The Billboard 200, which has long been a chart that ranked the most popular albums of the week based on pure album sales, now shifts its methodology to a multi-metric consumption model. The ranking includes on-demand streaming and digital track sales, in addition to traditional album sales, all measured by Nielsen. This is the most substantial update to the chart's methodology since May of 1991, when Billboard first used Nielsen's point-of-sale data — SoundScan — to measure album sales. As previously reported, the new Billboard 200 chart uses accepted industry benchmarks for digital and streaming data, where 10 digital track sales from an album is equivalent to one album sale, and 1,500 song streams from an album equates to one album sale. All of the major on-demand audio subscription services are considered, including Spotify, Beats Music, Google Play and Xbox Music. Swift's return to No. 1 is powered by 339,000 total album equivalent units in the week ending Nov. 30. Of that sum, the majority is pure album sales (281,000) with the bulk of the rest (58,000) comprised of track equivalent album sales (TEA). A tiny slice of her overall figure is from streaming equivalent albums (SEA). 1989's album sales now stand at 2.5 million after five weeks on sale. The album is also No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart, which maintains the old Billboard 200's methodology of ranking pure album sales. Swift continues to ride high on the Digital Songs chart, where she has two songs in the top 10: "Blank Space" (holding at No. 1, with 342,000 downloads; up 13 percent) and "Shake It Off" (8-10 with 93,000; up 12 percent). Back on the Billboard 200, a cappella group Pentatonix hits a new high as its album That's Christmas To Me rises 3-2 with 227,000 units. It also climbs 3-2 on Top Album Sales with 217,000 (up 119 percent). Watch Pentatonix Talk Celebrity Fans (Including Beyonce!) & More at the 2014 AMAs The new Shady XV compilation album arrives at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, with 148,000 units (138,000 album sales). The set celebrates the 15th anniversary of Eminem's Shady Records and its hit singles like 50 Cent's "In Da Club," Eminem's "Lose Yourself" and D12's "Purple Pills." Shady XV is the second top 10 compilation from Shady Records, following 2006's Eminem Presents: The Re-Up, which debuted and peaked at No. 2. Last week's Billboard 200 champ, One Direction's Four, slips to No. 4 with 125,000 units in its second week. (Of that sum, 105,000 are album sales -- down 68 percent from its launch of 387,000.) Sam Smith's In the Lonely Hour bounds 11-5 with 123,000 units (97,000 pure album sales). Rick Ross nabs his seventh consecutive top 10 studio album as Hood Billionaire bows at No. 6 with 79,000 units. On the Top Album Sales chart, it starts at No. 6 as well, with 74,000 copies sold. Hood Billionaire is the rapper's second studio effort in 2014, following the No. 1 debut of Mastermind (179,000 in album sales). His previous set, 2012's God Forgives, I Don't, also started at No. 1 (218,000). Flying 39-7 on the new Billboard 200 is a clear beneficiary of the chart's new methodology: Ariana Grande's My Everything. It moved 72,000 units for the week, heavily powered not just by album sales (47,000), but also track equivalent albums (19,000) and streaming equivalent albums (6,000). Had the new Billboard 200's methodology not been in place, My Everything would have ranked at No. 16 (where it stands on the Top Album Sales chart). My Everything has been absent from the top 10 on the Billboard 200 since its third week on the list (dated Sept. 27, when it fell 4-11). Beyonce's new Beyonce: More Only (EP) struts in at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 with 71,000 units. The digital set includes only the new bonus material (new songs, remixes and videos) that was added to the deluxe reissue of her self-titled album. The new EP sold 43,000 albums, but also garnered 25,000 in TEA and another 3,000 in SEA. On the Top Album Sales chart, the Beyonce: More Only (EP) launches at No. 17. The diva's self-titled album also scoots up both lists, thanks to its expanded reissue. On the Billboard 200, Beyonce rises 199-39 (25,000 units), while on the Top Album Sales chart, it vaults 199-37 (22,000 album sales; up 713 percent). Closing out the top 10 on the new Billboard 200 is the surging Frozen soundtrack (13-9 with 71,000 units) and Maroon 5's V (32-10 with 68,000 units). This is Frozen's first week in the top 10 since the Sept. 20-dated chart. Maroon 5's album charges up the list thanks to sale pricing at retailers during the busy Thanksgiving shopping week (including in the iTunes Store, where it was offered for $6.99). www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6334866/taylor-swift-1989-returns-no-1-billboard-200

If they are retro-scoring albums than Adele may just see a HUGE leap on the All-Time List. With just single sales alone she would see an increase of 2+ million.

Where's the certifications announcement? I thought it was coming with the new Billboard 200 article, RIAA doesn't seem to be preparing for anything just yet on their social medias. Maybe Ariana's team just passed her a messy message and she was confused or w/e?

I don't understand why RIAA would change anything at all? Not saying they are or aren't just wondering why they would. Certifications have long been based on 'shipped' albums. A 'shipped' album being either one shipped to the store or to your laptop. All the TEA stuff making up the current consumption chart is not the same thing to me.

This hadn't happened in a while but we've had "suspicious" certs for Kanye West and Jason Aldean lately.

Both have exceeded the minimums required in physical/digital sales (without adding streaming and or other crap)

The RIAA has announced that Ariana is Platinum.
If streaming was included, they would have said it. I would think...

I doubt it's just bullsh*t, yesterday when Ariana tweeted about her album being Platinum she also said "they'll explain it tomorrow": i.imgur.com/u6c9oOb.pngso if there's something to be explained and she's at 400k sales going both Gold+Platinum they're either counting TEA or SEA/whatever for album certifications now too + the fact that the Billboard 200 changes are also happening this week makes me believe they're probably still preparing an article or something ??: If it is just bullsh*t then it's some properly massive one. lol

In the past, the RIAA made an announcement before the new certs were added to the database.
When streams were added to digital certifications, there was a press release on the RIAA website.
There is nothing at the RIAA website about album certs including streams.
The RIAA even tweeted Ariana a congratulations on a Platinum album cert.
There has been no announcement so far.
Ariana's album is at 407,000.
Republic records just fudged her shipment numbers.

It wouldn't be the first time the RIAA retroactively certed something after changing methodology. Bad Romance is Diamond based largely on streaming, but streaming was barely even a thing when it was released, and its certainly not getting streamed at the level to be 10x platinum today.
But I think its far more likely that they just way overshipped just to get her a cert by year end.

Bad Romance has sold 5,503,000 singles as of the 5/28/2014 Billboard charts.

^Bad Romance's 10xP Diamond cert includes streams and digital single sales. I know, but before they started including streaming for certs at 100 streams to 1 sale, it was only 6x platinum. The other 4 million were retroactive based on YouTube streams. It didnt get those streams after 2013 when they started counting streaming.

^So what's the problem?
When the RIAA announced the new digital single cert requirements, it was retroactive for everyone.
Justin Bieber's Baby went 12xP.

I was just saying it wouldn't be unprecedented for RIAA to do a retroactive cert if they are changing their audit methodology
