rockgolf not to be a thorn in your side. The list is GREAT and well put together, but I think it'll confuse some people. Since Billboard will consider features anyway, whenever you have the time on your hands, I think it'd be great to get a list of both lead points and feature points combined. That'd give the true list of the artists contending seeing as some artists have much greater lead points than they do feature points while for some other artist, it's the opposite. Isn't what you describe the 3rd column?

rockgolf thanks for taking the time out to compile the list. I feel like this paints, along with the list of the Billboard 200 artists of the decade (so far), paints a clearer picture on who is in the running for the eventually artist of the decade honor for this decade. Seems like Drake's feature points were even more than you intially calculated. So, for Rihanna, lead points + feature points = 12,160,808. For Drake, lead points + feature points = 15,468,176. Difference between the two of them = 3,307,368. Drake leads Rihanna by 3,307,368 chart points for the Hot 100 artist of the decade title. That's a wide gap. Too wide a gap for Rihanna to close, even if Drake doesn't drop any new music this year and mind you, Drake is still scoring a couple thousand points every week from MIA and Going Bad. They'll be the top two Hot 100 artists which is great. Mind you, I'm still curious as to how BB will complete the Hot 100 artist list. If we take rockgolfs list into consideration then Flo Rida and Pitbull are going to chart in the top ten and Adele will barely chart inside the top fifteen. That would be a MESS if that happened. ●●●●●●● I still think BB is going to weigh amounts of number ones and weeks at number one the most and not place too much emphasis on features. Rihanna has the most number ones by far whilst Drake has the most weeks at number one. 41 vs 49. If Rihanna closes the gap in weeks at number she will get it no doubt. Last decade, Beyonce had more points than Usher by 2009 however Usher was the Hot 100 AOTD because he had more number ones (barely nonetheless) and weeks at number one. I don't think so. Why wouldn't Billboard place emphasis on features? I get you want Rihanna to win this honor at least, but it doesn't look like she will at all, at least not logically. Billboard loves their point system and they make changes to it as they see fit to ensure it remains accurate to them and to whatever times the industry is currently in. Features have always mattered to Billboard and maybe they'll matter even more this decade. They've already reduced it's significance by stating that only 30% of the chart points of a song goes to the featured artist. If an artist happens to be featured on enough songs that perform incredibly well, Billboard won't then further reduce the significance of features simply because they can. It makes no sense. A LOT has changed since they last gave out this award. The Hot 100 has evolved and a ton of changes have been made to the Hot 100's methodology since then. I don't think it'll be as easy as giving the Hot 100 artist of the decade to who had the most #1's or most top 10's or even who had the most weeks at either #1 or the top 10. I think it'll all boil down to chart points. It's just much easier and it paints a clearer picture. A song like Girls Like You didn't spend as many weeks at #1 as God's Plan did, but it's higher in the list of top Hot 100 songs this decade because it's spent a longer time charting than God's Plan did and hence, it's been able to garner more chart points. Billboard overlooking that and giving out the Hot 100 artist of the decade honor this decade the EXACT SAME WAY they did last decade is just something I can't see happening. There's more information to work with now. Even with the main artist of the decade honor. They'll factor in touring, streaming data, social impact and a whole ton of things they didn't even consider last decade to ensure the honor goes to who truly deserves it, which I think is smart.

I guess I didn't notice because there aren't figures for both lead and feature points combined and the third column isn't listed 1-100. Forgive me. You did a great job. Thanks for your work!

I'm not so sure. Look at the list again. Pitbull and Lil Wayne and Nick Minaj have more feature artist points than lead artist points. In cumulative points these are their ranks: • Nicki Minaj = 6 • Pitbull = 9 • Lil Wayne = 10 • Adele = 15 Do you really Adele is going to chart below the aforementioned three on the Decade-End Hot 100 artists list? That wouldn't be fair at all considering all of Adele's number ones are bigger than all of the other artists hits listed here combined. Again, I'm almost certain that Billboard will weigh amounts of nunber ones / weeks at number one / weeks in the top ten / weeks on the Hot 100 the most. I truly feel that it will come down to a weighing of the formulas between the digital era (2009-2013) and the streaming era (2014-2019) and remember that the formula has changed several times since 2015 alone. However... I could be very wrong of course. We'll just have to see. Anyway, with all of these factors I'm very curious as to how the top ten will be listed. Clearly some artists have more strengths than others. 1-5 is still a mystery to me.

kierz7 I don't think it boils down to it being fair or not. Adele has 4 #1's on the Hot 100, all as a lead artist, but beyond that, she's had a very weak presence on the Hot 100 this decade. Adele doesn't do a ton of features. Neither does Ed Sheeran or Taylor Swift or Post Malone. Whatever points they miss out on by not featuring on other songs isn't Billboard's concern. Billboard already favors solo lead songs by stating that a solo lead song has all it's points assigned to the lead artist and it's reduced the significance of a featured artist's presence on a song by stating that they only get 30% of the chart points of a featured song and not 50%. If they further favor artists with more points as lead artists, it'll directly negatively affect the artists who have more of their chart points as featured artists so to sort out that issue, they'll just use the total chart points each artist has accumulated over the decade, lead + feature included and people will land where they'll land. It'll be the same for the Billboard 200 artist of the decade award. Adele has the biggest album of ALL TIME on the Billboard 200, but she's only released 3 albums which have only been able to accumulate so many chart points so far. Drake has released 9 projects this decade so far that count and he's slightly ahead of her. You can't say it's unfair because she has the biggest album of all time on the Billboard 200. It's as simple as whoever can accumulate the most chart points wins. That puts everyone on an equal playing field.

thegreatdivineI wasn't debating levels of fairness and unfairness. I was simply arguing that BB following a solely charts point narrative, especially toward the Hot 100, would be somewhat futile and if they did do such I'd hope they'd explain why. Again, Lil Wayne and Pitbull are not going to rank ABOVE Adele on the Hot 100 artists list, or Ed Sheeran for that matter just because they have more points as featured artists. Taylor Swift is not going to rank below Nicki Minaj for that very same reason. ●LMAO● Adele's presence on the singles charts has been far from weak considering it's only taken her 4 number ones to already rank in the top ten overall Hot 100 artists list. As I said, I believe BB just may follow a (points by amount of & number of) pattern and it's okay... I could be wrong...We'll agree to disagree.

I feel like the best way to divvy it up would be 75/75 for co-lead and 100/50 for featured. Things like Lorde getting more points from Team than Bruno would get from Uptown Funk from a 70/30 seems pretty inaccurate, and a 50/50 split giving Gucci Mane more points off Black Beatles than Ariana off of Bang Bang seems similarly wrong. I doubt billboard would do that, but it feels better. Then again, lack of features or bills as co-lead do change the points beyond reality and impressions. (Looking at you, French Montana.)

kierz7 also, you have to remember that all that counts this decade are what happened this decade. Rihanna, this decade: 9 #1'# 19 top 10's. Drake, this decade: 6 #1's, 32 top 10's. All of Drake's 49 weeks at #1 have come in this decade. Rihanna has spent 41 weeks at #1 this decade. Drake has spent far more weeks charting on the Hot 100 this decade than Rihanna. So, it's not like if Billboard did things the way you're suggesting, Rihanna would automatically become the clear cut winner. It'll further put her at a disadvantage. But I agree with you, I think they'll find a way to weigh the #1's scored earlier this decade in the digital earlier and later this decade in the streaming era so that they all even out. I don't think they'll give either the digital era or streaming era #1's more significance than the other. It'll be fun to see how it all shakes out.

thegreatdivineRihanna. 9 #1's / 19 Top Tens / 208 weeks in the Top Ten. + 200+ weeks on the Hot 100 / 41 weeks at #1. ●●● Drake. 6 #1's / 32 Top Tens / 150 weeks in the Top Ten. + 400+ weeks on the Hot 100 / 49 weeks at #1. ●●● Again... They both outweigh each other in certain areas. It all depends.

What makes any of those artists better than Pitbull and Lil Wayne? Because they're in the running for artist of the decade and Pitbull and Lil Wayne aren't? The chart point system is indeed the ONLY reasonable way to measure an artist's overall performance. Aren't there songs that peaked at #2, but had a longer chart stay than songs that peaked at #1? Take This is America for example. Nonstop, which peaked at #2, but had a longer chart run has more chart points and is a bigger hit even though it peaked at #2. Same with Hotline Bling, Best I Ever Had and a host of other songs that never peaked at #1. To me, it's silly to use a song's peak to decide that it's a bigger hit when that doesn't even come close to painting the full picture of the song's run on the charts. Like you said, we can agree to disagree.

With so much turnover rates this decade on the Hot 100 and formula changes I'm so confused as to how BB will rank the positions and what not.

This would be great, but Billboard has their reasons for sticking to their 70/30 share rate for songs with featured artists. Maybe they'll change it in the future, maybe they won't. I mean, a lot of things won't be fair. There are artists who sing entire songs or sing large parts of entire songs and are the reason for a song's success, but because they don't get a feature credit, they never gain out of that song's performance on the charts. A most recent example is Sicko Mode. It is what it is. Billboard has their rules and they'll stick to it. All we can do is say what we think they should do instead. Doesn't mean they'll do it.

Even if they do consider number of weeks spent at #1 and in the top 10 like you say, they can't ignore chart points altogether, especially when they use those exact same chart points for their two main charts: the Hot 100 and the 200 albums chart.

thegreatdivineWhat also amazes me is how Eminem was "AOTD" in the 2000's. (It should have been Usher who was #2, personally speaking). He was the #1 BB200 AOTD yet was the "#13" Hot 100 AOTD and yet he still ranked atop Usher, Beyonce, Nelly, 50 Cent etc. for the overall title. His BB200 stats. we're clearly spectacular, which is why he scored the title, but going by that logic... Adele could easily become the AOTD 2010's based on 21 and 25's chart runs alone, not to mention her very good streaming, airplay and touring leverage this decade too. ●●● I'm SO confused as to how BB will rank all of this. Excited also.

Excited also. I'm gonna take a wild guess here and say that Eminem won the AOTD award for the 00's because of his album sale figures and because in that decade, album sales were probably the most prominent measurement of artist success and dominance. I don't know, I'm just taking a guess. Like I said earlier, Billboard tries their best to evolve with the times. Look at how they've included streams in their charts since the latter part of this decade. I'm guessing they'll give a lot of significance to streams in considering this decade's AOTD because streams are the most popular form of music consumption now. To remedy that out with how pure sales have declined, I think they'll take into consideration the amount of album equivalent units moved by each front runner this decade. I think they'll do the same for single sales/certifications. Touring is a lot more significant now and that's why they'll be considering touring this decade unlike they did in the 00's. I think they'll consider A LOT of things. Obviously, only they know how they'll weigh each metric. Personally, I feel confident in Drake winning it because he leads in a lot of metrics and that includes the Hot 100/200 albums chart, album equivalent units and single equivalent units (obviously Adele isn't far behind him in album units sold this decade and if she releases anytime sooner than when she usually drops, he'll lose that race, but he'll have a better chance if he drops another album this year), streaming. Every other artist leads in maybe one or two metrics. Only Drake leads in that many metrics which Billboard will be considering. Honestly, before I saw the chart point breakdown of the 200 albums chart and the Hot 100, I was SURE Taylor was gonna win it, but then 2018 happened and my opinion changed. The only thing Drake won't win is on the touring end. That's why I'm confident he's taking it home.

I can't imagine the Artist of the Decade will be determined strictly by Hot 100 stats. Surely the Billboard 200 would be included too, and on that front Adele is light-years ahead of Pitbull or Lil Wayne.

If "Adele" ends up being big, I think she has a pretty good shot. We'll see.
Edit: Never mind, just realized it'll probably be too late to make any big impact this decade.

It won't matter it she moves a billion units when she drops it she drops in Q4 this year. I was hoping Rihanna would drop Q1 this year and hopefully score some hits that she could use to ride out the year and maybe give herself a better chance to take home the Hot 100 AOTD award. That's why I asked rockgolf or anyone else to make a list of the Hot 100 artists of the decade so far so I could see where she stood and for Rihanna, too, she can't make up the gap. It's too wide. How do you make up over 3 MILLION chart points on the Hot 100 in less than a year? Impossible. It really sucks. We would have had a REAL showdown if only Adele/Bruno/Ed/Rihanna released more frequently during the latter half of this decade.

Oh, of course not. kierz7 and I were debating strictly about the Hot 100 AOTD award, but yes, Adele is RIGHT BEHIND Drake in points in the running for the Billboard 200 AOTD award. Even funnier, she's behind him on the Billboard 200 all-time list. When next Billboard updates that particular list, Drake will debut at #21 and Adele will move to #22.

Hopefully nobody saw the fact that I forgot to adjust God's Plan's chart position from last week. Also rejoice for me, I just found out this playlist has 100 followers!

rockgolf Can you do the Hot 100 artists of the decade list with the feature points counted. Thank you so much for your hard work Babe! As promised, here's the list. I've included 3 different versions of the ranking:
R1=Rank by lead credit only,
R2=Lead +30% of Featured credit (probably the most accurate),
R3=Lead + Featured total.
It's sorted by Lead +30% of featured.

No Coldplay in this top 100 ?!!! Nope. As a lead act since 2010, they have 589,643 pts. As 2nd billing (with Chainsmokers) they get another 585,285. At 30% that gives them 175,585 + 589643 = 765228.
So they fall just short.

iHype. do you have any idea where Drake's points are at on the all-time Hot 100 artist's chart? I saw that as at early June of last year, you had him at #30 with 8,330,145 points. Any idea where that would be at this point?

Any idea where that would be at this point? He's still #21, but with around 9-9.5m points now. I'd have to check but yeah I updated the list right before Billboard updated theirs in August, and he hasn't released a single as lead artist since + he's not credited for SICKO, so not much change.

Decade-End Chart for the week of March 16, 2019. Three tracks are super close to entering the top 100. Sicko Mode jumps into the top 40 and Girls Like You moves one spot to 38 on the All Time List. I also started tracking for Please Me and Sucker. My prediction about TUN entering this week was wrong, but its a lock for next week. Without Me will also likely overtake Happier in points. I'm not sure if I Like It will overtake Lucid Dreams but it'll be fun to see.
