Seventh studio album from the icon. IMO, her best.

Haha. Wow, it feels too soon for this.
I really like this album, very close to being her best. There are only two sore spots... "Phresh Out The Runway" is dreadful, it has the worst production/mix of any Rihanna song EVER and the vocals are abysmal. Terrible album opener and doesn't fit at all with the rest of the album sonically. "Right Now" is enjoyable, but far too generic/basic and had no business being on this album. Outside of those, I dig every other album track. I love how mellowed out this album was, very midtempo and ballad heavy compared to her other efforts.
As for singles, so many good ones. "What Now" is a career highlight, one of my favorite Rihanna songs period. So glad it got to see the light of day as a single, regardless of it's underperformance. "Diamonds," "Stay," "Pour It Up," "Loveeeeeee Song" (not official, but Urban said otherwise) were all really good.

I keep switching between this and Rated R as my favorite Rihanna album. They're both so damn good.
I love Unapologetic. When it came out I was - gladly - surprised that there were so many urban tracks, because I was expecting it to be full of WFL kind of songs.
Besides "Get It Over With" (which is a f**king bore), I like every song on the album. "Numb," "No Love Allowed" and "Loveeeee Song" are so cool in their mellowness; "Phresh Out The Runway," "Nobody's Business" (<333), "Jump," "Lost In Paradise" are all hot and more upbeat; "What Now," "Stay" and "Love Without Tragedy / Mother Mary" are some of Rihanna's best and most importantly vulnerable ballads ever.
I have to make a special mention of "Diamonds," which is one of my favorite songs, Rihanna and otherwise, of all time. That song is synonymous with a very special someone to me and just takes me back to a bittersweet period in my life. I love it so much. Her performance of it at the American Music Awards last year was everything.
This album is one of my most played albums actually, I can only hope her next is at least half as solid as this.

I never cared for this album. I sort of bought it without thinking (since I enjoyed all her other albums), but I kind of regretted it, because as an album, it just doesn't do it for me, and also the case of the deluxe was so fucking big and didn't fit in my collection which pissed me off, lol. Diamonds was so disappointing as a lead single; and I still hate it. Aside from Get It Over With (mainly because of the lyrics), and Jump (mainly because of the Pony sample), I don't think I've listened to any track on this album since 2012.

Seventh album by the legend.
It was kicked off by the international smash, Diamonds, and the infamous 777 Tour.
The album became her first #1 Billboard 200 album in the United States and continued her streak with selling at least one million copies in the US and as least three million WW.
The album also produced the ballad, Stay which became one of her most critically acclaimed songs to date, and Pour It Up which was the biggest Urban hit of 2013.
As time has passed I can comfortably say that this is my favorite Rihanna album. It's by far her most cohesive, experimental, and mature album to date. ;)

Between Loud, Talk That Talk, and Unapologetic, her albums just kept getting better and better for me. Still love Jump, Diamonds, and Pour It Up

I think I like the second half of the album more than the first. The six-punch knockout of "Stay," "Nobody's Business," "Love Without Tragedy / Mother Mary," "Get It Over With," "No Love Allowed" and "Lost in Paradise" gets me every time.

This is definitely her best album, so far. Although a lot of the messages on the album are troubling, it was a true reflection of where her mind and priorities were at the time (as we all witnessed). AllMusic gave the album 3.5/5 stars:

This is definitely in her top 3 albums, though Good Girl Gone Bad still is her best album to date.

Although a lot of the messages on the album are troubling, it was a true reflection of where her mind and priorities were at the time (as we all witnessed). That's partly why I didn't appreciate this album at the time (not much has changed with Anti but it helps that every song is exponentially hotter) but I hated "Diamonds" and never cared much for "Stay" so I was really turned off by Rihanna at the time. I've been listening to it a lot lately to see if I missed out on anything but my opinion on Unapologetic hasn't changed all that much. I can say now that there's more good than bad here that I'd ignored initially ("What Now" and "Love Without Tragedy/Mother Mary" especially) but I still can't help but feel underwhelmed by it.

This is just a disappointment. Diamonds was a great lead-off and her best lead off in a while, and while Stay was a great ballad, albeit boring, the rest of the album isn't really all that good. Pour It Up is just a Mike Will Made It retread of Bands That Make Her Dance, Love Song was... I don't know why, and Jump is just forgettable. The other song I do like is What Now, mostly because of the production and Rihanna's vocals. I give this album a 4/10.

Stay has never really been my favorite, but I thought Unapologetic was a pretty good, catchy album, but she really took it up a notch with ANTI. My faves are phresh off the runaway, jump, what now, right now, and Love Without Tragedy / Mother Mary .
