She should have won the Idol over Taylor Who, tbh.

I also think it's a bit selfish to want more music from her right now. I mean, she did do some 40 songs for Smash. That's equivalent to 3-4 studio albums. Which, for most artists, would be a decade of releases.

Listened to Katharine McPhee for the first time in a couple years and 2007 me died of happiness. It's held up really well, every track IMO.
And then I went and listened to Unbroken in full for perhaps the second or third time ever and was pleasantly surprised. It's not as polished production-wise as her debut, and I think that's what put me off to it so much at the time. Her look was also so forced with that dye job and awkward length haircut that I was lost on that era by the time the "Had It All" video came out. That said, I really enjoyed this listen. I'll have to give it another shot now. Only 5 years late to the party...

The fact is that Kelly, Carrie, JHud and Katharine are the the only remaining "stars" produced from Idol. There are people like Taylor and Fantasia doing their thing in their respective genre's and locations (Vegas, Broadway), but, in terms of pop culture, it's really only those four women. Whatever Katharine has to do to remain there, I'm fine with. But, I would love to see her return to music soon. You all are making me dust off that debut album today! And get some classic Smash moments pulled up on youtube. I disagree strongly about your "stars" . Plenty of idol alumi keep a higher profile than katharine currently Daughtry is a no brainer Scotty mcrerry just had two top 10 country hits Phillip Phillips had a strong first era , some splash with his second , and is now in the media for him suing Fantasias 4th album sold tons and tons more than Katharines second album Kellie picklers 4th album sold more than katharines second album as did mandisa'a All of these happened within the past two years

None of those people would be featured semi-regularly in Entertainment Weekly, or make best-dressed lists, or make blog news, national anthem at the nfc championship game, etc. Sure, they may sell more albums (almost everyone sells more album than Katharine), but that doesn't mean that they are anywhere in the mainstream of the entertainment industry.

She should have won the Idol over Taylor Who, tbh. It should have been an Elliott/Daughtry finale IMO, but that's another argument for another time. Even during Idol I always felt it somewhat obvious that Katharine was really an actress first and a singer second...if she had won there would have been more focus on the music side by default, but in a way I kind of think her first album taking off would have gotten in the way of her acting career. She has the goods to be a mainstream music star but she has to want it, and I just don't know that she ever wanted it that badly; she has always wanted acting that badly. In that regard things probably worked out for the best. Nonetheless I wish she would release something. I don't even mind that she doesn't really have a musical identity. Her debut had its merits and Unbroken was a lowkey gem.

I thnk I recall Kat herself saying her primary passion has always been acting, which is a damn shame to me. She absolutely has the makings to be a Pop star, but she has proven time and time again that music isn't her priority. That said, though, I am happy that Kat has been able to stick around, and I really hope the success of "Scorpion" will lead to SOMETHING long-term for her, because she's had so many ups and downs since she came on the scene.

No one has thought of Daughtry since 2006. I don't even know who Phillip Phillips is or what season he won, all I know is that his song was big because of the Olympics...in 2012. Fantasia hasn't been brought up since she tried to commit suicide and scored a reality show. And I honestly can't even tell you what Kellie Pickler has done since she was Taylor Swift's Selena Gomez. Katharine McPhee is on the #1 new drama show of 2014/2015 (besides Empire which just premiered) and is constantly being talked about in magazines, not to mention, has had massive high profile appearances like the NFC game national anthem - the biggest game of the year after the Super Bowl, Grammy's, Golden Globes, Emmy's, not to mention, SMASH was a cultural phenomenon when it premiered and now has a cult following. Her career may be a flop and her music career may be a disaster, but in terms of Pop cultural relevancy and celebrity profile, she's up there with J-Hud, Carrie and Kelly Clarkson, particularly since the cheating scandal which was huge in the media. I'm sure those Idols have had hits and impact on their respective genre, but Mandisa, from Katharine and Daughtry's season is a 5 time Grammy award nominee (and recent Grammy winner). Can you tell me the name of her last CD or what she's been up to since the show? Exactly.

Actually I can tell you without looking it up that Mandisa has released four studio albums since the show Each one doing well . She's huge in the Christian market 2006 for Daughtry ? Okay well their second album sold over a million units as did no surprise and the other two singles sold gold . Their third album sold gold as well Kellie I can give you . After her second album she stopped getting country AirPlay Fantasia had strong success in the urban market with her last release . I wouldn't say smash was a cultural phenomenon what so ever . Didn't it last only two seasons ? And if I recall none of the songs even made the hot 100 even though glee did it with ease its first four seasons All these people are in the media , it just depends if it's the media you pay attention to. And seriously I can't imagine anyone who isn't on this board or something similar being able to tell you more about Katharine McPhee in the last couple years over Daughtry

Lmao @ using receipts from 2009 to prove "relevance," though, the irony. I liked Daughtry, but their last two albums flopped, which wouldn't have happened if they were still relevant.

SMASH's each episode's audience number is way higher than all these people number of their's album sold, she may not selling album or songs, but HER name is UP in the big screen of everyone home, thats enough higher popularity /pop culture than those people. i like Daughtry, i like Fantasia, but TV is always way more influence than Music, thats is always a fact.

Am I the only one who gets the feeling this argument is becoming less about whether Katharine is more relevant, and more about whether genres outside of pop (or media coverage outside of E! News and most mainstream tabloids) are by default "irrelevant" simply for the fact that they're, well, outside of pop and mainstream media. I'm sure Mandisa does not consider herself irrelevant in the circles she travels in, and since she has never wanted nor tried to be mainstream, that's all that matters. I don't think her successes should be discounted simply because she chose a different niche in which to excel, and the same holds true for Fantasia. Daughtry wouldn't have been comparable even at his peak; he was never going to be the kind of celebrity whose success was based on his buzz factor or media mentions. So in that sense I think pnobelysk has a point - Daughtry had a good three-album run. It wasn't until the 2013 release that they really fell off the map.
This isn't to put Kat down any; I think she's done quite all right for herself. But if it weren't for Idol none of these people would be mentioned in the same paragraph with each other, never mind the same sentence. It's not like there is any universe where someone is dissing the merits of say, Yolanda Adams or Lifehouse for the sake of Leighton Meester...so why would it make sense now?
As a side note, to mamaloveme's last sentence, I don't know that I would say TV is always more influential than music. Again, not really comparable fields of work - especially because with music, the singer is always going to be tied to the music, for better or worse. So if your album takes off, so do you, at least in that moment. But you can easily be part of a hit TV show and yet not have any of that relevance rub off directly on you or shoot you up to A-list recognition. I'm not sure that I would argue that people see Kat and think "Katharine McPhee" before they think "the waitress from Scorpion" or "the brunette from Smash (who is now the waitress from Scorpion)" or "that girl who lost to Taylor Hicks and then moved on to acting." Not that that is a bad thing, the payoff in TV is much more rewarding and stable than it is in music, but decent payoff =/= 'relevance.'

Tickets for Bombshell go on sale April 16, I believe. But, they will certainly go fast. Kickstarter donors get a day head start in sales.

Their Kickstarter fundraising goal was 50,000...they're almost at $200,000 with 29 days left of the fundraising project.

So there's been a rumour around that Scooter Braun (he also produces Scorpion) signed her and that she's finally releasing her single/ album this summer.
And just now Kat posted a pic on IG of a music video set with the caption "Tease." Here's hoping this album finally comes to life!!!

And the video is directed by Diane Martel (Miley's We cant stop, Thicke's Blurred Lines).
Go Kat! It's been 10 years since Idol and she is still making the rounds! This has to be it!!
