Released in December 1958 by the doo-wop group The Skyliners. It reached #12 on the Hot 100 and the top five on the R&B chart.
I love this! A signature 50's rock'n'roll ballad.
I also really like Guns N' Roses' cover:
It was released as a single from their album The Spaghetti Incident? in 1994 and it reached the top ten on the UK Singles chart.
Another version I love is by New Edition, from their throwback doo-wop album Under The Blue Moon released in 1986:

I had never heard of this song until I heard the version on Casey's Top 40 by Guns N' Roses. And then I'd never heard the version by Don McLean until listening to AT40 - the 80s.
Anyway, I like all 3 renditions.

I really like this record, by the Skyliners. This is from back in my day. Why can't they make beautiful music like this anymore?

Don't forget Ronnie Milsap's version. It peaked at #6 country and #25 adult contemporary in 1991.

The only version I want to hear is by the Skyliners. 1959 was one of the best years ever for pop music, and this was one of the records that made it so good.

I have the Skyliners version. So pretty and sad at the same time!
