Song of the Year:{Last Year's Winner}"Counting Stars" by: OneRepublic
#4 - OneRepublic - "Counting Stars"Last year's Song of the Year makes a return this year, only becoming the second song to be nominated twice in the category ("Thrift Shop" by: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis being the other: #3 in 2012, #2 in 2013). "Counting Stars" is arguably the most successful song to ever appear on my chart. It debuted all the way back in March 2013 (with the release of the album) and was in the Top 10 for most of its start until it hit #1 in June 2013, and stayed atop for a whopping 26 weeks in 2013. Despite most of its success coming from the previous year, 2014 was another successful year for the song. It topped the chart for the first 4 weeks of 2014 (giving a total of 30 weeks), and was a mainstay on the chart for quite some time. It left the Top 10 for the first time at the end of May 2014, over a year since its debut, and didn't leave the chart until the end of July 2014. Giving it a total of 70 weeks on the chart, one of the longest running songs of all-time (only three songs have lasted longer). "Counting Stars" is still in my playlist that I listen to regularly, and has already gotten the timeless stamp to it. This is easily my favorite OneRepublic song, and probably will rank in my overall Top 5 of all-time for the rest of my life.

Song of the Year:{Last Year's Winner}"Counting Stars" by: OneRepublic
#3 - Nickelback - "What Are You Waiting For?""What Are You Waiting For?" by: Nickelback takes the third spot in the Song of the Year race, where Nickelback has shined in years past. The song debuted at #1 upon release in September 2014, with a first play marker of 68 plays (the most of the year), but it had a rocky road staying there. It did end up accumulating 5 weeks atop the chart nonconsecutively, being the third longest running song of the year. While it held up nicely until November, after that it just hit rock bottom. It took steep drops before falling off the chart on the last chart of the year. Due to the weeks it stayed at #1, it helped get the song to where it is. It didn't last as long as "Resonance" or "Counting Stars" this year, but it did however beat both of them out in plays this year. This pretty much got destroyed when the album came out since there were much better songs on the album, so this will definitely not become a timeless classic. It'll probably be left in 2014, and maybe get some play in the beginning of 2015, before becoming pretty much an album-only track when I listen to the album.

Song of the Year:
{Last Years Winner}"Counting Stars" by: OneRepublic #2 - Nickelback - "Edge of a Revolution"Nickelback gets their second nomination in this year's Song of the Year award, following "What Are You Waiting For?", but still can't get the #1. "Edge of a Revolution" had a much better run than "What Are You Waiting For?" did, and easily secured the #2 spot. It debuted atop the chart upon release as well back in mid August 2014, and stayed there for 7 nonconsecutive weeks (only to be broken apart by "What Are You Waiting For?"). The song had a lot more going for it considering it was Nickelback's first song in nearly 3 years and it was far more interesting. For most of its chart run, it stayed in the Top 5, before dropping out and starting to falter a bit until the last chart of 2014. The song is starting to make a rebound, currently sitting at #12. With Nickelback's recent albums, there hasn't been really anything I have considered "timeless" yet (despite "This Means War" still being on my playlist), and this song is no different. This will definitely be able to hold up in 2015, but beyond that is very questionable.

Song of the Year:{Last Year's Winner}"Counting Stars" by: OneRepublic
#1 - Tove Lo - "Habits"Tove Lo keeps the success going: "Habits" takes home the trophy for Song of the Year! This song was a major success on my chart, far and out the best of the year. I discovered it through here (before being pushed), and it clicked with me instantly. It randomly debuted at #3 with a first week play mark of 54, the second highest of the year. The following week it took the top spot and stayed there for 13 weeks, the highest total of the year. It blocked off many potential #1 songs, and killed many songs (poor "Kiss the Devil"), as it withstood its position and completely dominated. This song helped get Tove Lo to where she is right now, becoming one of my favorite artists, and will help her long into the future. Tove Lo hasn't found success with her second single, "Talking Body", on my chart, but it is very early to tell. This song has already gained the timeless tag despite it not even being on the chart for a year, as I just already know. Everything about this song is perfect and could end up being one of my favorite songs of all-time.

Alright so before I move on the Non-Album of the Year, here are some songs that were considered for a Song of the Year nomination!
“Pressure” by: Youngblood Hawke (Peak: #1 (4 weeks)) - was the #5 song until I decided to go with "Resonance". “On Your Side” by: SafetySuit (Peak: #1 (2 weeks)) “Hesher” by: Wallpaper. (Peak: #1 (3 weeks)) “Back Home” by: Andy Grammer (Peak: #1 (2 weeks)) “Shut Up and Dance” by: WALK THE MOON (Peak: #2) - will have better chance next year. “Words as Weapons” by: Seether (Peak: #3) "Kiss the Devil (Just A Gent Remix)" by: Bel Heir (Peak: 2) - pretty much killed by "Habits". “All This Could Be Yours” by: Cold War Kids - will also have a better chance next year. “Dangerous” by: Big Data (feat. Joywave) (Peak: #10) - #10 peak brought it down. “Top of the World” by: Mike Posner (feat. Big Sean) (Peak: #1 (5 weeks)) - was a fast dropper after it fell from the top spot. “Rude” by: MAGIC! (Peak: #2) - if it weren't for the extremely high burn rate, this would have been another possibility.
Also Non-Album of the Year will be a single post, similar to the genre posts, since it is not really a big award, just more of an alternative to the Album of the Year award.

Non-Album of the Year:{Last Year's Top EP/Mixtape:}This...Is Marcus Canty by: Marcus Canty (#16 overall) #5 - Watch the Duck - Don't Watch Me (mixtape)Watch the Duck gain their first nomination at the awards. Their song "Poppin' Off" put them onto my radar, and they have turned into a band I look out for. After being on songs with T.I. and Iggy Azalea in 2014, they released this mixtape in July 2014. Watch the Duck has a unique craft, blending hip hop, rap, R&B, pop, dubstep, and trap all into one, and somehow make it work well.Highlights: "More Than Beautiful", "Not On My Watch" #4 - The Neighbourhood - #000000 & #FFFFFF (mixtape)Despite being an indie rock band, #000000 & #FFFFFF, finds The Neighbourhood dabbling into the hip hop/rap field. With bolstering productions, great lyricism, odd collaborations, and awkward song titles, The Neighbourhood made a very unique mixtape. Listening to this mixtape does not give you an overall idea of who The Neighbourhood is, but shows how damn creative they are.
Highlights: "Jealou$y", "#icanteven" #3 - Bel Heir - 12 // 24 (mixtape)
(there's no album cover for this) Bel Heir's 12 // 24 is a mixtape containing all the singles they released in the 2013-2014 period. Each month they released a single with an A-Side and a B-Side, and the mixtape contains an A-Side and B-Side for the songs that were respectively in those sides. Bel Heir had one of the most unique ways I've seen in releasing music, and their music is fairly unique in itself. The indie pop they create is unlike others, they have chilling productions to go with a unique vocal.Highlights: "The Game", "Kiss the Devil", "Take You There", "Into Infinity"
#2 - The Cab - Lock Me Up (EP)After signing with Republic Records, The Cab released their first material on a label since 2008 (when they left Fueled By Ramen). They ditched their alt-rock sound for a polished pop rock sound in their second album, Symphony Soldier, and they pick up where they left off from there. Each song sounds destined for radio and would appeal to the masses easily. Alexander DeLeon's vocals are so silky smooth and the instrumentation of each track is splendid. It's a shame that the EP couldn't produce anything (considering Republic hardly tried).Highlights: "Moon", "Stand Up" #1 - Tove Lo - Truth Serum (EP)Tove Lo continues her success with another win on her belt. Truth Serum is one of my favorite pop releases in the recent past, as every song is perfect from front to back. Each song has beautifully crafted lyrics and production to go along with Tove Lo's great vocals, as it is hard not to like this. 2 songs ("Not On Drugs" & "Habits") were included on her debut album, Queen of the Clouds, which gets an Album of the Year nomination. But the bigger question: does she win that also?
Highlights: "Not On Drugs", "Paradise", "Over", "Habits", "Out of Mind"

I think I'll start Album of the Year tomorrow (depending if work and school get in the way since I also have the chart which is a higher priority tbh). Was going to start today, but SafetySuit (my favorite band eva) just came back after a year of silence and I am sooooo f*cking excited I'm shaking. So while the rest of my night is going consist of SafetySuit music (and finishing homework lol), so I thought I'd take the rest of the night to rejoice!
Happy Pulsing!

Alright before I start Album of the Year in a bit, I'll put out the honorable mentions that couldn't make it.
Lee Dewyze's Frames and The Neighbourhood's I Love You. were bought this year, but due to the release dates it was ineligible to be nominated. There are obviously some albums I let slip through the rules (as you will see), but these albums didn't make much of an impact to be nominated. Frames would have been higher than I Love You. and neither of them would have been at the bottom.
J. Cole's 2014 Forest Hills Drive and WALK THE MOON's TALKING IS HARD were also ineligible due to their release dates (period is December, 2013 - November, 2014). Both will be in the nominations next year.
Calvin Harris' Motion is eligible, but I decided to shelve it for next year since I bought it on New Year's Eve so it wouldn't have had a fair shot. This is one of some exceptions I make lol. Even with it being bought not too long ago, it probably would have beaten some of the bottom ones lol.
Stay tuned for the #22 (and more) album(s)!

Album of the Year:{Last Year's Winner}Ricky Reed is Real by: Wallpaper. #22 - Aloe Blacc - Lift Your Spirit
Besides the #22 spot being last place, being last place isn't so bad. At least your album was good enough to buy and actually be nominated, so don't feel bad Aloe vera! Aloe Blacc finishes in the dreaded last place spot. When the album was due out, it looked like it could possibly make some noise. The previews were up for the whole album and 5 instant grats were great. When the album was released, it was just not as I wanted it to be. The previews to a few songs were good and the 5 instant grats were good, but nothing stuck. The album is a blend of pop and old-school R&B, and Aloe Blacc's soothing voice fills every track. The album has some great tracks, but as a whole, it falls short.
Top 3: "Can You Do This", "The Man", "Chasing"

Album of the Year:{Last Year's Winner}Ricky Reed is Real by: Wallpaper. #21 - Theory of a Deadman - SavagesAfter a dud in the last album The Truth Is..., Theory of a Deadman was looking for a rebound album with Savages. While they exceeded the disaster that most of The Truth Is... was, they produced yet another mediocre album. The album is filled with terrible writing and odd ad-libs that the last album suffered from, but the instrumentation and some of the songs make up for a lot of it. Going with a mostly rock album, they were able to keep riffs interesting and keep you listening to the album, thinking hopefully it would grow. Most songs, however, suffer from horrible writing, and the album is wildly inconsistent. For every gem like "The Sun Has Set On Me" (one of TOAD's best songs to date), there's a "Blow" (one of TOAD's worst songs to date). With dark, brooding songs like "Drown" and "The Sun Has Set On Me", to cheesy songs like "Heavy" and "Livin' My Life Like A Country Song", to great productions on "Angel" and "Savages", to poor ballads like "The One" and "In Ruins", you just wonder how Theory could be so inconsistent and not notice it.
Top 3: "The Sun Has Set On Me", "Angel", "Drown"

Album of the Year:{Last Year's Winner}Ricky Reed is Real by: Wallpaper. #20 - MAGIC! - Don't Kill the MagicMAGIC!'s debut album suffers the same fate that Aloe Blacc's did. Coming hot off of their hit single "Rude", my expectations for this album were high. "Don't Kill the Magic" was a solid second single (internationally), and the previews to the album sounded good. When the album came out, every song either sounded like a variation of "Rude" or "Don't Kill the Magic", which made the album very generic. The unique sound that "Rude" and "Don't Kill the Magic" produced was multiplied 11 times and a whole album was created based on those two. The writing is also a turnoff as most are borderline generic, which is a head-scratcher considering the lead singer Nasri has wrote hit songs for numerous artists. Like Aloe, the album possesses some great tracks, but as a whole album it doesn't flow well.
Top 3: "Rude", "Don't Kill the Magic", "Stupid Me"

Album of the Year:{Last Year's Winner}Ricky Reed is Real by: Wallpaper. #19 - Chris Brown - XChris Brown's long-awaited album, X, finally saw the light in September 2014 after numerous delays. Coming off 5 singles before the album came out, you already see how much Chris has been through. The album consists of 17 tracks (21 on deluxe), and somehow stays consistent. While not all tracks are really interesting, most of them have good qualities to them. X is a major upgrade from his last three albums, finally getting back to the quality that Exclusive possessed and none of the next three could replicate. The trashy, R&B/Rap songs are kept to a fair minimum, and the amount of actual R&B tracks were brought up. Nearly all of the pure R&B tracks are superb and even some of the ratchet anthems are good. The interludes "101" and "Lady In A Glass Dress" are surprisingly highlights on the album where usually interludes are always left alone, and they leave you wanting an actual full song out of them. Where the album went a little wrong was on how many tracks were on the album and it makes it hard to listen to the album in full, so instead you listen to your favorites and leave the rest alone, despite most of them being good.
Top 3: "Autumn Leaves", "X", "101 (Interlude)"

Album of the Year:{Last Year's Winner}Ricky Reed is Real by: Wallpaper. #18 - Nick Jonas - Nick JonasNick Jonas turned from ordinary boy band member to a super sex symbol in just the matter of months. After getting his start with the generic Disney band, Jonas Brothers, he came into his own in his second try on a solo career (first was with The Administration). Ditching the pop rock from the Jonas Brothers days, Nick tried some R&B on his true debut album and it worked out to his greatest. He was never the best singer, but it seems that he found the niche in his voice after all these years and is putting them to the perfect use. Nick Jonas has some R&B swagger to it, similar to Miguel, but still relatively staying a pop album. Through the catchiness of tracks like "Jealous" and "Wilderness", or the great productions of "Numb" and "Teacher", Nick utilizes his true musicianship and shines on the album. Every track has some upside to it, even if it is forgettable. Since being a former Disney star, most people will sleep on the album, but if you're looking for something that's a cross between Justin Timberlake and Miguel, look no further than Nick Jonas.
Top 3: "Jealous", "Numb", "Nothing Would Be Better"

Album of the Year:{Last Year's Winner}Ricky Reed is Real by: Wallpaper. #17 - Maroon 5 - VMaroon 5's fifth studio album, cleverly titled V (/sarcasm), is basically the second solo album of Adam Levine. After ditching the rest of the band and just putting their name on the album in their last album, Overexposed, Maroon 5 follows the same suit as last time. What's even worse about this album than Overexposed, literally no one from the band co-wrote or helped produce on any track on V, with the obvious exception of Adam Levine. With the band name being used practically in dead use, V is still a fairly good effort from the 'band'. There are some major standouts on the record ("Maps", "It Was Always You"), but also some major duds ("In Your Pocket", "My Heart Is Open"), where the album is seemingly inconsistent, but still does the job in finding radio singles, Maroon 5's overall job. There are major writing crimes found in at least one part of each track, and sometimes, even the whole track. The awful writing on "In Your Pocket", which finds Adam singing about seeing his girlfriend's phone in her pocket, or the chorus that literally consists of 'yeah''s on the very boring and underwhelming Gwen Stefani duet, "My Heart Is Open". Even on one of the album's highlights, "Feelings", the song still suffers from a horrible second verse that throws in two unnecessary f-bombs and says: "You and me let's go all night. Going so high, we f*ck the sky. Come with me now, f*ck that guy", you really question what was going on in the studio. Really the whole track's lyrics are questionable. What does save that song, and a lot of others, is the melody is inescapable. On the electro-pop influenced "It Was Always You", it shows one of Maroon 5's best works in years, and "Maps" produces a slightly reggae beat along with a unique vocal tone, a lot of the album becomes passable. The album gets a higher rating due to some of the killer tracks, but it does get brought down on some awful tracks and horrible writing.
Top 3: "It Was Always You", "Maps", "Leaving California"

Album of the Year:{Last Year's Winner}Ricky Reed is Real by: Wallpaper. #16 - Seether - Isolate and MedicateWorking without a major label does wonders for Seether. On their last few albums, some songs on each were looking for pop airplay, where in most times, it was not a good idea. On this one, there are none that try to chase that. In my opinion, Seether is the closest thing to Nirvana that is around in the 21st century, and Isolate and Medicate can help prove that. Working off of their lead single, "Words as Weapons", the song is easily the highlight of the album, and potentially the best song of their career. Through the killer riffs, intense drumming, superb lyrics, and the angst in lead singer's Shaun Morgan's vocals, everything about the song is perfect. Surprisingly, a lot of songs on this album seem to live up to the expectations that "Words as Weapons" set. On "Same Damn Life", it is another showing of the highlights of "Words as Weapons", but also throws in a odd sample of Little Peggy March's "I Will Follow Him" that works wonderfully, and on "Nobody's Praying For Me" shows mysterious and dark tones, and kind of produced a sound similar to Nickelback's "How You Remind Me". Other highlights like "See You at the Bottom", "Suffer It All", and "Keep the Dogs at Bay" also work tremendously. What does tear the album down is the uninteresting tracks that fill the rest of the album. "Watch Me Drown" literally follows the same vocal progression that is on "Same Damn Life", but does not work as well. "Crash" is fairly boring, and "My Disaster" and "Save Today" are fairly underwhelming tracks that are good through an album listening. Seether produces some great tracks on the album, but they also bring some filler with them.

Album of the Year:{Last Year's Winner}Ricky Reed is Real by: Wallpaper. #15 - Young the Giant - Mind Over MatterYoung the Giant's second studio album, Mind Over Matter, finds them improving on many different levels from their debut. They produced a more cohesive album and does not drag along like their debut did. Lead single "It's About Time" provides a pretty hard rocker, with heavy riffs and and killer vocals, it goes up as one of Young the Giant's bests. Young the Giant is very capable of producing timeless and downright amazing songs, as evident of their debut highlights "My Body" and "Cough Syrup", and they strike gold again here. "Crystallized" and "Mind Over Matter" have great production and lyrics, while "Daydreamer" and "Anagram" show the catchiness of the band. The album is very top heavy, as after "Camera", things get a little boring and forgettable. The big highlight, however, is the middle track "Firelight", probably Young the Giant's best lyrical/musical effort. The song talks about a blissful death and how death can be peaceful. The airy production of the track complements the pure lyrics and soothing vocals of frontman Sameer Gadhia. The album produces a great first half, but an underwhelming second, but is still a great album.

Album of the Year:{Last Year's Winner}Ricky Reed is Real by: Wallpaper. #14 - Foo Fighters - Sonic HighwaysFoo Fighters' 8-song LP, Sonic Highways, was alarming when the album was first announced. "Only 8 songs?" everyone thought, but the Foo Fighters did the best they could in a short LP. In my opinion, this is Foo Fighters' worst effort since One By One back in 2002. Yes, 13 years ago. The Foo Fighters have consistently delivered through the next 3 albums, but this is where they fall sort of flat, but still provide a good listen. The lead single "Something From Nothing" had a huge build-up and was intriguing throughout. It starts off fairly mild, then goes into a kick ass riff and the last minute of the song is one of the best parts on the record. They also strike gold on album tracks "The Feast and the Famine" and "I Am A River". "I Am A River", in my opinion, is one of the best Foo Fighters songs in recent years. It's a little overlong at 7 minutes, but each minute is as great as the last and really builds up to be a great song. The other 5 songs, however, aren't as great as these three. "Congregation" is a pretty good song, but it's not a song I would necessarily listen to multiple times a day. "What Did I Do?/God As My Witness" is a decent song, but really only good listening through the album. "Outside" and "In the Clear" are just okay album tracks and "Subterranean" is a pass in my opinion. Three superb songs, two good songs, two okay songs, and one bland song is enough to tear down a low 8 track LP.
Top 3: "I Am A River", "Something From Nothing", "The Feast and the Famine"

Album of the Year:{Last Year's Winner}Ricky Reed is Real by: Wallpaper. #13 - Wallpaper. - Ricky Reed Is RealLast year's Album of the Year winner, Wallpaper.'s Ricky Reed Is Real, gets a second nomination to see if it could do as good as the previous year. #13 is actually a decent number for a reigning champion. Ricky Reed Is Real barely won last year though. This and OneRepublic's Native were very interchangeable in the #1 & #2 spots, but this took home the win with a better play median. In its second year, however, Native beat it. This album is a fun album from track one to track twelve. "Geek Out", "Last Call", "Hesher", "Puke My Brains Out", and "Life of the Party" are great party tracks. Every song from one to the other is great and the album is very cohesive. Wallpaper. may have turned some heads with his oddball, deep pitched rapping on tracks like "F*cking Best Song Everrr" and "#STUPiDFACEDD", but those days are behind as nothing on the album is similar to the rapping style on those two. "Hesher" is fairly close, similar rapping and weird lyrics, but with Ricky's normal voice. Ricky Reed is Real was the turn up party album of 2013, and probably will be my turn up party album of the decade. This is an album to check out if you like great party music. Ricky Reed is also the guy who produced Jason Derulo's huge hits "Talk Dirty" and "Wiggle", along with Fifth Harmony's "BO$$" and Jessie J's "Burnin' Up".
Top 3: "Life of the Party", "Hesher", "Last Call"

Album of the Year:{Last Year's Winner}Ricky Reed is Real by: Wallpaper. #12 - Childish Gambino - Because the InternetChildish Gambino is one of the top rappers in the game and Because the Internet puts his best on display. The first 11 tracks are the best, while the last 8 are good album tracks. Glover's lyrics are on another level, topping a lot of rappers that are in the game. The album as a whole is one of the best setups in recent years. The album also has a screenplay written by Donald Glover (Childish Gambino) himself that is great and complements the album perfectly. The screenplay sets a great visual through each track and makes some of the confusing lyrics in some songs make total sense. The undeniable talent that Glover possesses is put to best use in this whole album. With great lyrics has to come a great flow, which Childish Gambino has that. His flow brings each track up and make the lyrics even more enjoyable. He even has a great singing voice, not even having to bring in guest artists to do the hook. All of the productions on the album also complement the tracks. This is one of the better all-around albums of the year. There is something for everyone on here. Poppier songs like "3005" and "Earth: The Oldest Computer (The Last Night)", harder tracks like "Sweatpants" and "The Worst Guys", and great cinematic tracks like "Telegraph Ave." and "Worldstar". This is far and out the best rap album of 2014, and even beat out albums in 2013 despite having a December release date.
Top 3: "3005", "Sweatpants", "The Worst Guys"
