...and here's THIS week's chart. :) Some surprising results, indeed, to be found on this week's chart. And The Script have held down the #1 spot for the past two weeks. Do they make it three? @jakelmmrs44 Zeebz Mikey Daryl the Beryl Juan Carlos ♛ The Manticore ☯ Flip surfy @drag27 AlbieMike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: August 1, 2015 DROPPERS:Sultan + Shepard featuring Tegan & Sara - Make Things Right (from 39) Prince Royce - My Angel (from 33) Well! That is indeed a big surprise to have color codes bookending the chart this week. "Aquaman" does take the Biggest Drop this week, sliding 9 notches to #40, but heck, that pales in comparison to the double-digits we've seen on multiple weeks. Plus, they've had a good run anyway. On the other end, is the much bigger story - as indeed, no one else jumps more than 4 notches this week! Normally I might be inclined to not even bother coloring a Biggest Move that low, but given that the song doubles as the new #1 this week, well...it's not that often that y'all are likely to see the week's Biggest Mover leap straight to #1, now is it? ;) Having the Dropper turn out to be #40 was just gravy on that front. On another note...our recent trend of "if at first you don't succeed..." continues at that top spot! Carly Rae Jepsen: Went to #3 her first time out in collaboration with Owl City, in 2012. The Script: Scored six chart singles, including a #2 and a #3, before finally hitting #1 with their 7th. And now, Brandon Flowers. The Killers had their one and only chart appearance a full ten years ago, as "Mr. Brightside" came very close to becoming a #1 smash, but instead had to settle for 3 weeks at #2. Trying again solo, Brandon sprints to the top this week. In a similar vein, last year Foster The People stopped at #15 with "Coming of Age". Now, Mark Foster has branched off solo, and teams with Madeon to crack the Top 10 this week. There's also Krewella, who took "Live For the Night" to #18 in 2013. This week, they move from 9 to 7 and show no signs of stopping. And, due to the second top tier collapse in the span of 3 weeks, Madonna now stands as Brandon's closest contender, besting the #5 standing for "Devil Pray". Is a #1 reign soon to be in her future? And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. There are no New Picks this week, so - until next week... :) -Mike

I think, now I'm at the point where I'm completely back in the groove once again - meaning no more delays in posting these! And with that said, every song is on the move this week. You know what that means... :) @jakelmmrs44, Daryl the Beryl: Adam up three. ♛ The Manticore ☯: So are New World Punx. Juan Carlos: And John Newman. Zeebz: Janet up two. Albie: So is Tinie Tempah. Mikey: And Zedd. surfy: This week's first debut. :) @drag27: Kacey is this week's Biggest Mover (see also story below). Mike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: August 8, 2015 DROPPERS:Walk the Moon - Aquaman (from 40) Jason DeRulo - Cheyenne (from 39) Jennifer Hudson - I Still Love You (from 30) "If at first you don't succeed..." continues to be the mantra this week, but this time with a twist. After "Devil Pray" reached a high of #5 back in April, Madonna's follow-up to that tops the chart this week. But, it's not her first trip to the top of my chart. Back in 2006, she took "Jump" to the penthouse - a then-rare occurrence of an album track achieving that feat (it had not yet been released to dance clubs or AC radio). Krewella, with a nice 7-4 jump, may be able to keep the trend going, but to make it consecutive, they'll need one of two things to happen: 1) Madonna being able to keep New World Punx out entirely, or 2) Leapfrogging the Punx themselves to reach the summit sooner. And with their own 6-3 move, the Punx are not going to make that task easy. With Brandon Flowers being pushed out of #1 this week, and both The Script and The Great Lake Swimmers quickly descending in the Top 10, it looks as if dance/pop fever is now finally beginning to settle into firmer control of the chart's upper regions. But don't take my word for it! Get a glance of the Top 10 and those songs waiting right below. Paul van Dyk and company make a big move into the Top 10 this week, leaping from 11 to 6, though most of that is fueled by collapsing Top 10 (or ex-Top 10) hits. Madeon, inching up to #9, might be peaking. Below them, the next five are all eager for some Top 10 time. Two weeks ago, the generation chain of artists currently charting in the Top 40 grew a little shorter with Ella Henderson's departure. Last week, that rung grew right back with the debut of 17-year-old Zara Larsson's "Lush Life". :) Kacey Musgraves had a nice start with "Biscuits", only to see that song slow down quickly, then peter out at #28. "Dime Store Cowgirl" hasn't looked to fare much better so far...until this week, that is. It's this week's Biggest Mover, leaping six to #25, pushing past a couple of others to even do that. Yes, this time she should be able to stick around a little longer. :) You might be surprised to see "Out of the Woods" return this week, seeing as it spent the first two weeks of the year at #1. Well you see...I've decided to give it a second run, since it only did spend 7 weeks on the chart at all. Don't expect it to last as long as it would otherwise (i.e. if it were just starting out now), and we'll see what kind of impact is felt should her newly-announced next single "Wildest Dreams" decide to grace these pages. But for now, "Woods" re-enters the survey forest at #38. Disclosure have been flipping a coin for collaborative partners in chart appearances on Mike's Top 40...they first appeared with Sam Smith for much of the first half of last year, then followed up with a Mary J. Blige pairing. Then early on this year, they went another round with Mary J. Now - they've gone back to pairing with Sam again! And the fast start that they are off to - the first song in several weeks to shoot right into the Top 40 on its impact week - could very well be an "Omen" of big things to come for this go-round. Not that they slouched the first time..."Latch" went all the way to #2 here, if you recall. So, if anything...this song has some pretty big shoes to fill! ;) And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. NEW PICKS OF THE WEEK: (More Dance! ) 3LAU featuring Emma Hewitt - Alive AgainNERVO featuring Kylie Minogue, Jake Shears, & Nile Rodgers - The Other BoysSteve Aoki, NERVO, & Tony Junior - Lightning StrikesAbove & Beyond featuring Gemma Hayes - Counting Down the DaysDisclosure featuring Sam Smith - Omen (#40) Carly Rae Jepsen - Run Away With MeUntil next week... :) -Mike

Wow look how well Paul van Dyk is doing. :o I love his lastest with Sue McLaren which I'm about to add soon on my chart. Also 3LAU & Emma Hewitt as new pick of the week? Make it happen. Great chart Mike.

• Oh! "Nonsense" in the Top 10. Hope it could go further, although it's so good to see it there already. • "Tom's Diner" and "Papercut" in the Top 20 <3 Hope both of them could keep climbing too. • Cool to see Aquilo on your chart. I need to check their stuff. I have been intrigued to listen to them because of their collab with Madeon in "Innocence" to be honest. • Keep going "Come and Get It". • Good to see "Afraid to Love", "Give Me Your Love", as well as the re-entry of "Out of the Woods" and the new entry of "Omen" there. • Interesting to see the opening track of Communion on your chart. • "The Other Boys" and "Run Away With Me" as your 'New Picks'. YES!

Sigh...here we go again. I had the chart all ready to post this past weekend, and then...I've had no way to post it until today. Damn it! @jakelmmrs44 Zeebz Mikey Daryl the Beryl Juan Carlos ♛ The Manticore ☯ Flip surfy @drag27 AlbieMike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: August 15, 2015 DROPPERS:Carly Rae Jepsen - I Really Like You (from 31) Tove Lo - Talking Body (from 29) Madonna turned 57 this weekend...and though she's down to #3 this week, and though it'll be a few years before she will be able to challenge for the record for oldest artist to hit #1 here, she moved into solid second place when she hit #1 last week. And, she also broke another long-standing record when she did that. The record for longest time between #1 hits on my chart had been held by Pink for what would've been 5 years next month. In 2002, she took "Just Like a Pill" to the top spot for 4 weeks, with the week of August 17 being its last. She would not return to #1 for just over 8 years - 8 years, 1 month, and 1 day to be exact. On the week ending September 18, 2010, she finally broke her long #1 drought when she hit with "Glitter in the Air". The mark had stood ever since, with virtually nobody coming even close to breaking it, until last week. As I mentioned last week, Madonna took "Jump" to the top in 2006 - the weeks of March 18 and 25, to be exact. This marks a duration of 9 years, 4 months, and 2 weeks between #1 appearances, a new all-time record in that category. Now, I should mention that the category itself comes with a gynormous asterisk, due to the multiple hiatuses I've had in charting periods. Having said this, there actually is one other potential challenger who could emerge and blow this new mark completely out of the water should she hit #1 again. I'm talking about: Kylie Minogue. As it turns out, her one and only #1 was the successor to the throne over "Just Like a Pill" in 2002, spending 2 weeks of its own there. So, Kylie has not spent a week at #1 since the week ending August 31, 2002. Last year, she returned to my chart and made a big splash, taking "Into the Blue" up as high as #4. And of course, earlier this year she and Giorgio Moroder took "Right Here, Right Now" to #5. Now - she may be at it again, with the new collaboration of "The Other Boys" which was one of last week's New Picks of the Week. Should that hit the chart, she'll be taking another potential crack at this record. Speaking of records, Giorgio is himself taking another crack at the oldest to hit #1 record, with "Tom's Diner" stepping into the Top 10 this week. But even as it does so, it hits a stumbling block, as flying right past it are Tinie Tempah and Jess Glynne with the week's Biggest Mover, as "Not Letting Go" leaps five to #8. Indeed - no less than eight (!) other songs all jumped four notches this week, but theirs was the only one to jump five. And with movement like that, the chart is definitely moving much more briskly these days...over the past couple of months, there's been weeks with large blocks of either very little movement or no movement at all, but looking ahead, these large compacted slowdowns do not look to be in the cards anytime soon. :) Last week, Tori Kelly found herself leapfrogged by Kacey Musgraves. This week, she returns the favor, jumping right back ahead of her as they both continue upward. This might be the makings of a chart duel between these two that could, oddly enough, spell trouble for other contenders going forward - just ask Neon Trees, forced to hold in place at #24! New Picks of the Week will be deferred to next week. So, until then... :) -Mike

This week's chart. Late, but I have more than just a drive-by posting this week. ;) @jakelmmrs44 Zeebz Mikey Daryl the Beryl Juan Carlos ♛ The Manticore ☯ Flip surfy @drag27 AlbieMike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: August 29, 2015 DROPPER:Allertz - Don't You Get It (from 31) NEW PICKS OF THE WEEK:Actually, New Picks of the past three weeks. Listing these first - my chart talk will make a little more sense if y'all can see these first. Lana Del Rey - High By the Beach (#37) (since I never did technically list it...) Duke Dumont featuring Boy Matthews - Ocean Drive (and yes, that is the guy's name who sings on this) Birdy & RHODES - Let it All GoPaul van Dyk featuring Sue McLaren - LightsAlex Adair - HeavenAshley Monroe - The BladeMadonna - Rebel HeartAdam Lambert - The Original HighThis week, one pair of sisters replaces another atop the chart, as Say Lou Lou ride their long climb (and recent Top 10 sprint) to the summit. They'll have to defend against Tinie Tempah and Jess Glynne next week. The Top 10 looks particularly aged this week, with the youngest song in there having been on the chart for at least 3 months already, and the two oldest having been on for 5. Some new/new-ish blood looks to soon be on the horizon looking down into the teens, but they'll have to wait until some songs start falling - though that may not be a long wait, with now three ex-#1s falling, and Paul van Dyk looking to be peaking at #4. The bottom of the chart looks to see an exodus next week as well, with three ex-Top 2s all ready to fall off after long chart rides. Now, let's shift focus this week to some prolific chart sounds that are currently in place, or are soon to manifest themselves. First, there seems to be a bit of an outbreak of so-called white soul singers as of late - or at least, white singers who seem to have some association with an R&B-based sound. On this week's chart, we have: Charlie Puth, Robin Thicke, Sam Smith, and John Newman, though Sam's song isn't exactly R&B. There's also Laura Doggett, whose voice has a husky quality to it, which is particularly on display in "Night Girl". Then, there's an act who aren't really associated with R&B or soul, but the song they're currently charting with could be another story. I'm talking about Aquilo, an electronic duo based out of - where else? - England (as Sam, John, and Laura also are). "Better Off Without You", if you haven't listened to it yet, is a ballad with a particularly jazz-like production, pronounced with singer Tom Higham's emotive vocals that cross into full-on falsetto throughout the song. (And for that matter: While "Foundation" by Years & Years is also a ballad, its production doesn't lend itself anywhere that close to R&B.) That's what's taking up space on the chart now. What's on the horizon? Well...how about a dash of tropical house? Two songs currently charting have that flavor in their sound - one, is this week's debut, "Find You" by INTRESSTandLOUIS. The flavor is pretty hard to miss there - you can hear it right in the opening notes. ;) The other? "Anywhere But Home" by Breathe Carolina & APEK. It's more subtle there, since "Anywhere But Home" isn't really quite a "house" song, but listen closely to the melody in the verses - the influence is there. Not quite an EDM song, but still one with a tropical flavor, is "Lush Life" by Zara Larsson. And on the horizon? "Heaven" by Alex Adair - like "Find You", the sound is pretty well unmistakable. Also on the horizon, not a tropical house song, but one that can complement these three - what else? - "Ocean Drive" by Duke Dumont. Or, if you're looking for a more general beach theme, we'd be remiss to overlook Lana Del Rey getting "High By the Beach". :) Incidentally, both of these flavors each have representatives making moves this week, as both Sam Smith and Zara Larsson each jump six to #29 and #28, respectively. And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. Until next week... :) -Mike

Yay! We're back on schedule. This time, for realz. :) @jakelmmrs44 Zeebz Mikey Daryl the Beryl Juan Carlos ♛ The Manticore ☯ Flip surfy @drag27 AlbieMike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: September 5, 2015 DROPPERS:The Great Lake Swimmers - Zero in the City (from 40) Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth - See You Again (from 38) The Script - Man on a Wire (from 36) Neon Trees - Songs I Can't Listen To (from 34) Say Lou Lou hold onto the top spot for a second week, as Tinie Tempah and Jess Glynne step up to #2. The showdown is set, for next week. After that, Giorgio and Britney look to factor in to the picture. Last week, Zedd's "Papercut" featuring Troye Sivan became the first song as long as 7 minutes to ever crack my Top 10. This week, it punctuates on that by stepping up three into the Top 5. It has the strength to continue all the way to #1, but must first face down those three in order to do so. Aquilo, after four months of climbing, finally reach the Top 10 this week - but it may be a short stay, as they look to be running out of steam. Another song in trouble, further down the chart, is "Afraid to Love", which can only limp up one notch this week as last week's two big movers continue to jet as this week's two biggies. Keeping it short this week, so that'll should do it for this week's chart talk. NEW PICKS OF THE WEEK:Duran Duran featuring Kiesza - Last Night in the CityKatharine McPhee - Love StrikesBabyface - We've Got LoveP.S.: If you're wondering where any of the recent high-profile Pop impacts might be - I assure you, there is no oversight on my part. :) You will not see any one of those songs on these pages anytime soon. Until next week... :) -Mike

It's Good News, Bad News for Aussie twins on this week's chart. We see one pair of twins among one of five debuts this week, while the pair already on the chart...find themselves out of the #1 spot after two weeks there. Albie: ...which can only mean good news for Tinie Tempah - right? @jakelmmrs44: Tori hits Top 10 territory. @drag27, surfy: Kacey up two. Zeebz: So is Lana Del Rey. Juan Carlos: Disclosure up one. Daryl the Beryl: So is John Newman. ♛ The Manticore ☯: Audien up three. Mikey: Matisse & Sadko (and Martin) up five. Mike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: September 12, 2015 DROPPERS:CHVRCHES - Leave a Trace (from 40) Kate Pierson - Mister Sister (from 35) Madeon featuring Mark Foster - Nonsense (from 32) Adam Lambert - Ghost Town (from 31) Brandon Flowers - Can't Deny My Love (from 28) Tinie Tempah and Jess Glynne move into the top spot this week. For Jess, it's a bit of redemption after "Rather Be" was denied its shot at the top last year. (It looked like a certain future #1, when I was forced to put the chart on hiatus. :( ) And, the #1 contenders picture has changed dramatically - more on that in a little bit. Much of the chart isn't moving very fast this week, though the signs are definitely there that this will change soon. For starters, there's the handful of songs that do post nice jumps on the lower end of the chart, including Duke Dumont and INTRESSTandLOUIS tying for the week's Biggest Move. There's also Cheerleader, with a big leap right up to #5. Then: Philip George, Aquilo, Josh Dorr, Markus Schulz, Giorgio/Britney, and Say Lou Lou all go bulletless - that's six in one week. Philip, with his six-notch drop to #31, will likely depart next week, while the rest will now be on borrowed time. (Unfortunately, this does mean that "Tom's Diner" has run out of gas.) These collective falls, plus the other songs already falling, will yield larger jumps in the weeks to come. But how about that #1 picture? "Not Letting Go" moves atop this week. With "Tom's Diner" looking to be out of the running, this elevates "Papercut" as the new top contender. I'm not sure that it has a shot for next week, but two weeks could be a different story. With that 11-5 leap, though, Cheerleader are certainly looming large, and the plot certainly thickens with Troye himself making an unexpected second appearance this week. Markus Schulz and Josh Dorr have certainly peaked. Sia steps up one to #8, but the fact that that's all she could do while Cheerleader soar right by doesn't bode well for her long-term prospects. Tori Kelly narrowly secures #10 this week, though she may be on borrowed time herself. Further down, the same could be said for Laura Doggett, whose "Night Girl" limps to #20 this week. Now, how about this week's debuts? Three of them are brand new to these pages entirely (see also New Picks of the Week, below!). One contains the Australian twin pair I mentioned at the beginning - Miriam and Olivia NERVO. And the other, is this week's highest debut. ;) And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. NEW PICKS OF THE WEEK:Giorgio Moroder featuring Charli XCX - DiamondsJosh Dorr - Rocket (RE-ENTRY) JoJo - Save My Soul (#38) Kygo featuring Ella Henderson - Here For YouAshley Gearing - Train TrackEZA - We Keep the Lights OutZhu & AlunaGeorge - AutomaticTroye Sivan - Wild (#39) Hedley - Lost in TranslationCarrie Underwood - Smoke Break (#40) Years & Years - Eyes ShutSelena Gomez - Same Old LoveJake Miller - SunshineIndeed, 13 Picks! That sets a new record for one week. And with three of them going straight into the 40 this week...such a level of new excitement hasn't been seen since the aftermath of the Grammy Awards, last year. (In case anyone's checking for a convenient excuse this time...I don't have one! ) I wasn't posting them at the time, but that week I added 10 new songs, three of which debuted in the Top 40 that same week. As to the re-entry for "Rocket": As you'd have seen, I added that a couple months ago, right when Josh released that digitally. But after a few weeks, I'd decided that I didn't really want to chart both at once, which was partially due to the chart & new music section being fairly crowded at the time. Now, with "All or Nothing" looking like it's peaking at #7, this might, effectively, replace that song soon. Until next week... :) -Mike

Good to see "Not Letting Go" atop. I like it, despite it's not one of my favourites to be honest. Also, "Papercut" keeps going! <3 and "Come and Get It" is close to reach the Top 10. Moreover, it's good to see "Dime Store Cowgirl", "Out of the Woods", which reaches a new peak in the Top 20, "Lush Life", "Omen", "Foundation", "Something Better", "Stressed Out", "Ocean Drive" and "High By the Beach". Regarding your new entries, a massive yes to "Run Away With Me", "The Other Boys" and "Wild". That said, it's great to see two (overall) Troye songs here Philip George, Aquilo, Josh Dorr, Markus Schulz, Giorgio/Britney, and Say Lou Lou all go bulletless - that's six in one week. Philip, with his eight-notch drop to #33, will likely depart next week, while the rest will now be on borrowed time. (Unfortunately, this does mean that "Tom's Diner" has run out of gas.) Sad to see that "Tom's Diner" isn't going to peak atop, although a Top 3 is great! Also, did "Afraid to Love" fall to #31 (picture above) or #33 (text written here)? Anyway, great to see "Diamonds", "Save My Soul", "Here for You", "We Keep the Lights Out", "Automatic" (!!!), "Eyes Shut" and "Same Old Love" on your new picks of the week.

So, this is how the past two weeks have looked. @jakelmmrs44 Zeebz Mikey Daryl the Beryl Juan Carlos ♛ The Manticore ☯ Flip surfy @drag27 AlbieMike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: September 19, 2015 DROPPERS:Madonna - Ghosttown (from 35) Philip George - Afraid to Love (from 31) For the Week Ending: September 26, 2015 DROPPERS:New World Punx featuring Cara Salimando - Memories (from 30) Paul van Dyk & Roger Shah featuring Daphne Khoo - Louder (from 28) Two weeks ago, Sia scored her first #1 song on my chart in a real shocker. That week was rather gloomy, and "Big Girls Cry" rode the moody wave all the way to the summit. Had that not happened, "Not Letting Go" would certainly have scored a second week at the top. As if to punctuate that being an "of the moment"-type event, she then deflated back to #3 last week, making room for a record-setting #1 in "Papercut". Don't ask me what the longest song to ever hit #1 was before this; I have no earthly idea. In any case, that honor now belongs to the 7:23 long "Papercut", giving Zedd his second #1 song (and second in the month of September, no less!) That also made last week a very good week for one Troye Sivan, with "Wild" also being the week's Biggest Mover in an 8-notch leap to #29. I predicted that "Anywhere But Home" would easily eclipse the fate of "Blackout" for Breathe Carolina - and lo and behold, two weeks ago they leaped to #12, last week they hit the Top 10! Also setting new highs is, believe it or not, Janet Jackson. She'd only managed to chart once before this - in 2004, "All Nite (Don't Stop)" went to #11. Two weeks ago she matched that mark, then last week she too hit the Top 10. And then there's John Newman. Last year, "Love Me Again" went to #7, then he followed that with "Losing Sleep", which made it up to #5. Last week, "Come and Get It" eclipsed that mark, stepping up to #4. He may have a shot at going all the way to the summit if he can keep back Kacey Musgraves long enough (yes, she too has designs on the top spot). So now, the question is: Where will the wheel turn this week? :)

"Papercut" is atop and "Wild" is the biggest mover. YES! :'( Also, good to see that "Lush Life" and "Omen" keep going, "Foundation" and "Something Better" enter in the Top 20 and "Stressed Out", "Ocean Drive", "Run Away With Me" and "The Other Boys" climb.

Happy birthday to...me! :) This week, the wheel turns to a #1 song that maybe you should've seen coming on a day like this. ;) @jakelmmrs44 Zeebz Mikey Daryl the Beryl Juan Carlos ♛ The Manticore ☯ Flip surfy @drag27 AlbieMike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: October 3, 2015 DROPPERS:Laura Doggett featuring Alice Jemima - Night Girl (from 40) Krewella - Somewhere to Run (from 34) Martin Garrix Vs. Matisse & Sadko - Break Through the Silence (from 33) Lana Del Rey - High By the Beach (from 31) Just as I turn 30 today, Cheerleader crown the chart this week with "The Sunshine of Your Youth". Go figure, right? But as the wheel keeps turning, they may not be able to savor the moment for very long, as John Newman - fresh off setting a new chart best last week - steps up to #2 this week. And, as I stated, Kacey Musgraves is also in the race for the top, up to #4 this week. Speaking of wheels turning, though, how about CHVRCHES? Four weeks ago, "Leave a Trace" debuted at #40. The next week, they were pushed out of the chart completely. Then, they returned at #39 the following week. Then last week, they held at #39, and it looked like they'd be headed out the door again. But this week, they not only regain their bullet, but they move up five to #34. Quite a topsy-turvy start for them! This week's Biggest Mover was in a year of hitting it big when I came into this world - Madonna leaps eight to #28 with "Rebel Heart". Actually no Biggest Dropper this week, as that's a tie. And actually, that'll do it for this week's chart talk. NEW PICK OF THE WEEK:Secret Weapons - Something NewUntil next week... :) -Mike

Sad to see that "Papercut" isn't atop anymore, but it was so great that it reached at the spot though. Also, all the songs I mentioned before reach a new peak, plus "Come and Get It" and "Dime Store Cowgirl" and "Out of the Woods" climbs back to the Top 10. Oh! Happy birthday too.
