This was the first single from her third album, "Concrete Rose." It was produce by 7 Aurelius. It missed the top 10 on the Hot 100, peaking at #13, but became her biggest hit in the UK, peaking at #2 there. I thought this was a really adventurous song for her, back then. I feel that the production drowned out her voice on the track, but I guess she tried, LOL.

I feel that the production drowned out her voice on the track, but I guess she tried, LOL. I've always thought this, too. I love the track, but a stronger vocalist probably could have pulled it off better.

I love the instrumental, the sample really did make the song IMO. There is one moment in the video, for like a brief second, where she looks like a star, lmao. Other than that, she always looked like the chick down the street trying to play dress up, just no C.U.N.T.

Quit snickering. Natural beauty Ashantiβwho does not take frequent trips to Brazil for bodysculpting procedures like othersβis behind some exceptional R&B like this here. Easily one of the best moments in pop music this century(!) and it's still lighting up the clubs:

Love the production on this but all I remember from the video now is that damn bottle of Herbal Essences. Miss Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas knows she doesn't use anything other than Carol's Daughter and Luster's Pink.

Haha. I still remember watching the access granted video special on BET. She and her choreographer were hyping the dance breakdown TO DEATH. Something about bringing some gang gang dance straight from Africa.
Then when the video aired, it just looked like she was playing red rover or some sh*t.

With Ashanti and her mom hyping how she used to dance as a little kid No boo. The Dance Version of the video looks like she is convulsing half of the time.

Best Ashanti song/single. I also loved her and 7's work on "HERE'S MY NUMBER BABE" and "DON'T LEAVE ME ALONE"/"DLMA REMIX".

Never liked this. It was her first regularly promoted radio single that I didn't like. Always found it grating.

I always loved the Midnight Society remix. They made this into a hot club banger. I loved how they looped her name at the end of the spoken intro, "Ah, I just want you to know that throughout it all, It's only you that stuck behind me, And for that, I thank you, I love you, Ashanti Ashanti Ashanti Ashanti Ashanti."

Love this song, the instrumental, the vocals, it's FIRE! Not only do I love the chorus, but I love how she articulates the verses. It reminds me of Lose My Breath by Destiny's Child.

This is probably her best. This remains her best single. This came on in the car today on an old burned cd and it goes SO HARD still.

This had a cool sound, shame it went to the musical nonexistence that was Ashanti.

Easily my favorite Ashanti song. The sample. THE GUITAR. The beat. The sex. A full serving and a half.

Her strongest single by far. Too bad it all went down from here.

What a bop. A classic case of "I have no interest in an artist outside of one song".

Ashanti is a very underrated artist nowadays. Only U is one of her most underappreciated singles and it's probably my favorite song from her. I like the dope rock influenced production despite it being an R&B song. Unfortunately, it was the closest single to not make the 2005 Year End although it peaked at 13 on the Hot 100. If I'm not mistaken this was Ashanti's last major hit.
