jhomes87 you'll be "happy" to know that my friend did some research and Dierks has been nominated 33 times and won 6. If he couldn't win for UOTR, and he couldn't win for Riser, I am pretty sure he'll never win anything at this point. He'll just never be a big seller, so he'll get overlooked for MV (what. the. f**k.), and he'll never be quite good enough for Album. If DOAP couldn't win for Single, I certainly don't see him duplicating that success. And as Riser, the song, likely won't see a release, he won't win Song. You will never, ever convince me that a win for Video is worth anything, so don't even try - he hasn't even gotten to make an acceptance speech.

Here are my extended thoughts on the ACM awards and telecast
- I am now officially on the bandwagon with the getting-tired-of-all-the-Miranda love. Even though "Platinum" was great, I think this was Dierks' year. Unless he can put out an album that tops "Riser". It just seems he almost got to A-list status this past year. And "Automatic" winning Song of the Year was BLEH in my mind.
- Bruno Mars should get a restraining order on Thomas Rhett ASAP. Dude is obviously obsessed. From his Michael Jackson shoes, and the dance moves were clearly Bruno moves (if you've seen any of his performances, you'll know what I am talking about). I was hoping when he flipped the mic under his leg that it might fall, that would have been funny. Take five Thomas....take five
- I did like the legends stuff, that was cool. But wow, Randy Travis doesn't look so good. I understand his predicament and his fight. But to me the photos we saw last summer he looked better in. I wonder if he's sliding a little bit?? I hope not though.
- The ACM's and artists missed a HUGE opportunity to display new singles. Every year we usually get something, from Blake's "Honey Bee" in 2011, and Luke's "Crash My Party" in 2013. We got Miranda doing her rock'n'roll bit AGAIN (should have played a new song), Luke Bryan doing "I See You" (we all know they have a lead single ready to go"), and What about Brett Eldredge? His new single drops Tomorrow on Itunes, they even have it on Pre-Order from Saturday, but why?? To me that was lining up for him to perform it last night
- I dreamed about Bros. Osborne or Maddie & Tae winning Vocal Duo. I knew it was never going to happen. But I predict one of those 2 acts will beat FGL within 2 years.
- "I Dont Dance" winning Single of the Year was a pleasant surprise. To me, that song was more Song of the Year material, but still, good win for Lee.
- FGL/Luke winning Vocal Event is a crock. Do these voters pick for popular or quality?? To me, Meanwhile Back at Mama's or Lonely Tonight should have been a lock for that. I actually hear those 2 more than the FGL/LUke song in recurrent airplay.
- Hats off to George Strait, he did it again
- Cole Swindell winning New Artist was defiantely a surprise, given Sam Hunt's status as of now. I am not a fan of any of them, but if I had to vote I would have gone Cole. Even though he is Luke Bryan 2.0
- I thought Luke and Blake were very subdued in their hosting spots, which Is a good thing. Luke actually came off as semi-enjoyable.
- I didn't mind Luke winning EOTY, but it should have been Garth or Eric.
-Congrats to Little Big Town on group of the year, well deserved. I do think ZBB will take that next year, and possibly this years CMAs. Their new album will be huge.
That's it for me, more later

Anyone have a though as to why Tim McGraw was not nominated for anything? I thought he was making a real come back lately. Not a big fan of his, but I think he's a good guy and I like his recent music.

-- Regarding Cole vs. Sam: I completely agree that Sam is the bigger long-term star, but he isn't doing enough to cultivate the specific type of passion you need to win these sorts of awards. His social media effort is pretty abysmal (if you can even call 2 or 3 fairly impersonal Tweets per week a social media presence), whereas Cole is out there interacting with fans and making himself accessible.
Hunt obviously has a great sound and all the intangibles of a big star - and you could even make the case that being "too cool for school" on social media strengthens his image - but it doesn't get you votes in social/web-based award races.

^I think Cole winning was simply because he's been around longer and has had more time to accumulate a base of people who are fans of him as an artist, where as Sam Hunt's music is selling better but he perhaps hasn't developed as many loyal followers. Also, Luke Bryan encouraged his social media followers to vote for Cole Swindell, so Cole had a pretty big advantage there, too.

ACM Ratings: Biggest Since 1998SUNDAY NIGHT’s (4/19) "50th ANNUAL ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC (ACM) AWARDS" from AT&T STADIUM in ARLINGTON, TX proved to be a ratings juggernaut for CBS-TV, delivering the AWARDS’ largest audience since 1998, with substantial increases from the 2014 ACMs, according to preliminary, same-day ratings from NIELSEN. CBS-TV was first in viewers with 15.77 million adults 25-54, 18-49, and 18-34, winning every 30-minute segment for entire three-and-a-half-hour telecast. The "ACM AWARDS" were also up big from last year’s show, increasing 6% 18-49, 7% 25-54, and 4% among 18-34s, not to mention the additional 1.45 million viewers compared to 2014. Last night (4/19) marked the first time the ACMs were extended by 30 minutes, but when measured in the traditional 8-11p primetime window, results are even more impressive, as the show garnered 16.17 million viewers (+13% from 2014), with an increase of 9% in both 25-54 and 18-49 adults. Additionally, the ACMs ranked as the #1 most social broadcast of the day, according to NIELSEN SOCIAL. All Access

Oh, yeah, I don't really think a Video of the Year Award is anything either. I merely mentioned it so that people wouldn't say "but Dierks did win something!" What are the 6 awards he's won in his career? New Artist at the ACM Awards in 2004, Horizon at the CMA's in 2005, and "Drunk On A Plane" has picked up a pair of wins for Video of the Year (CMA's in November and ACM's last night). I think the other awards he's won are from the far less prestigious CMT Awards. It's just super annoying that Dierks can't win anything. Ever. >:(

Hunter Hayes is going pop? Since when? After "Invisible" and "Tattoo" didn't do well at country radio. Just a prediction that he may be planning a pop move soon. I really doubt it. I mean he's always had pop tendencies but I don't think he's planning that without staying in the country genre. Taylor Swift, he is not.

Not a big fan of his, but I think he's a good guy and I like his recent music. I chalk it up to politics. McGraw has never had a huge impact as far as awards shows go. I can remember times even in the prime of his career when he was arguably the biggest country singer in the genre and couldn't manage to even snag a male vocalist nomination.

Random Question but does anyone know if CBS/Viacom plans on reairing the awards show? I don't see how they wouldn't want it on say CMT since it was such a ratings success for them!!
