As this section is called "Indie and Folk" and as we have a very successful "Random Indie" thread already with some very remarkable contributions and suggestions, I thought of creating "Random Folk", in similar fashion allowing video suggestions from folk traditions.
Folk may include all languages, come from all countries (some are very famous with their folk traditions), traditional folk (original or good covers as originals may be very hard to come by) and... gasp... "modern folk", please no preaching that this modern tunes are an insult to traditions, folk can also develop in modern terms just like other genres, so let us be more permissive and tolerant
Plus, a suggestion. Don't just post the video link. Use the opportunity to mention the title of the song, the artist, his origins, some useful information about the song etc...

The song has become a modern anthem for Scotland sung in national events and in football games and in clubs, and has been lovingly covered by hundreds of artists

With the "Mystères des voix bulgares" (the mystery of Bulgarian voices), the world recognized up close the beautiful choirs of Bulgaria. For example Volume 2 of the series won a Grammy Award for "Best Traditional Folk Recording" in 1990 and album "Ritual" was nominated for Grammy award in class "Folklore" in 1994. Here a great example of Bulgarian voices by the Bulgarian women choir Angelite singing Dragana I Slavei

This is by Current 93, a british group that started doing industrial music and slowly have been exploring unusual genres. I love many neofolk artists, and this one... wow, they blew me away! This song, The Frolic is in the first album that I listened that I thought to myself "Wow... better go and pray a little" lol Sorry if this is too weird to be here, but I always associate them with folk, and since there are many types of folk, I think the inclusion of this song here is logical. Let me know if you like it! By the way, 1wxrld, the Foster and Allen song with Shayne Ward was very good! I'd love for Shayne to make an album like that

I had never heard of them before, exactly as you had never heard of Nathan Carter before.... It seems to me like an indie music group, experimenting with ancient music in a new vein. I have now heard quite a few of their songs and I am already a fan. About Shayne Ward, he is truly a good artist and it shows in the folk song he did with Foster and Allen. But then I don't know if you followed the UK X Factor series when Shayne Ward was on in 2005 in his early start as a 21 year old young man. Here I put links to some of his performances, where his appealing personality shines through and made everybody fall in love with him. Also do check the judges' comments at the end of the links: "If You're Not the One" www.youtube.com/watch?v=6J4NSplIbAE"I Believe in a Thing Called Love" www.youtube.com/watch?v=skDFA3HmYY0"If Tomorrow Never Comes" www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3un6OThMXU"Cry Me a River" www.youtube.com/watch?v=q61WVTq2VXA"Over the Rainbow" www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BqLGOtQo1oTalking of folk songs, Shayne Ward's contemporary song that I love so much could be made with the right arrangement into a touching folk song. I mean his song "Melt The Snow" would be very appropriate Or his beautiful rendition "A Better Man"

Wow! Thanks for introducing me to this artist! His voice is beautiful and the song is incredibly pretty. It somehow reminds me of Garth Brooks' song This Ain't Tennessee. Will investigate further, I want more! It is a true pleasure to introduce talented artists that are like hidden gems not known outside their country's border. Nathan Carter is considered a pioneer of a new upsurge in a genre called "Country and Irish" in which very young singers interprete country style songs in an Irish folk tradition and also try to introduce new folk tunes of their own. Other artists I recommend and have introduced on my website are Derek Ryan and Lee Matthews. I do invite you to check my website www.1wxrld.com for special feature on Country and Irish artists for samples: www.1wxrld.com/featured-artists/country-and-irishOf course if you want an artist to prove his vocal abilities, you have to listen to him live. No studio, no gimmick, just a microphone, live simplified musical accompaniment and an audience who is just taken by the magic. To prove this all I have to do is put this Phil Coulter classic "The Town I Love So Well" and what better than Coulter himself accompanying this talented young man. No studio gimmick, just enjoy! Since you mention he reminding of American country singers, this is a great opportunity as any, to introduce you to his cover of the American country song "Good Morning Beautiful" From his own songs, "On The Boat To Liverpool", quite appropriate as Nathan Carter is from Liverpool. And again his own song "Where I Wanna Be"

Fady Maalouf - a German singer of Lebanese origin.
Here in a cover of Lonestar's "Amazed". I also love the comments inserted on the music video itself, make it so appealing.
His own Latin-influenced bilingual song (in English and Arabic) - the very intriguing "Neyla"
Here in his phenomenal debut hit "Blessed" written specially for him during the German DSDS (Deutschland sucht den Superstar) competition where he was competing.

Country and Irish singer Lee Matthews has released a good cover of the Travis Tritt country song "It's a Great Day to Be Alive" with an accompanying music video. It's so nice to see young artists release such good covers and bring back great songs after so much time. Hard to say this is a 15 year old song and was done by Travis Tritt in 2000. YouTube link
