I think the video fits the song PERFECTLY. Captures the vibe she's going for.
Still don't like this song though :'(

The video looks like a Calvin Klein commercial from 1998. Which makes sense, given the shiny heroin-chic eyelid and vacant stare. It was a decent video.

Coming for that Wrecking Ball record ;( It didn't even come close to the "Wrecking Ball" record... "Wrecking Ball" did 19.3 million views in 24 hours. "FourFiveSeconds" currently stands at 7.3 million views after two days. The record is actually held by "Anaconda" with 19.6 million views at the moment. "Wrecking Ball" hit 100 million views in 6 days. That isn't happening for "FourFiveSeconds" either.

Well it's officially going to do better than Russian Roulette. That stalled at #21 on CHR.

Fortunately it was top 10 on the hot 100 Eh. Was a nice change of pace, but it's far from memorable, imo. I think Fire Bomb should have been the lead single. Was also a change of pace, but far more interesting and hit ready.

Curiously it was one of her biggest hits here in Spain

I get what this is supposed to be I think, and I actually prefer it to Diamonds. Obviously it's not as good a single, but it's definitely more interesting than most of the singles off her last album.
Don't see this becoming one of her biggest, but I hope it can stand on it's own. Good to see that it's done better than RR. I like the video as well for what it is, it matches the song.

And it's nice when big artists doesn't fear to take risks Where's the risk here for Rihanna? Heck, she did a song with the biggest man in music as far as I'm concerned, Paul McCartney. It got her exposure for her forthcoming album if nothing else. I don't see any risk actually.

Well it's officially going to do better than Russian Roulette. That stalled at #21 on CHR. True, but it's hard to compare the two because the recurrent rules have changed since Russian Roulette was released. Under the new rules, I bet RR would have snuck into the top 20. Nevertheless,FourFiveSeconds is clearly going to be the bigger chart hit. IMO though, RR >>> FFS That was so unfair, Russian Roulette is one of Rihanna's best songs. Was also a change of pace, but far more interesting and hit ready. Yes, yes, YES! I don't understand why Fire Bomb was never released as a single. It should have been released after Rude Boy hit #1 if nothing else. But no, we had to get Flopstar 101 instead. (I love that song too, but it had no business being released as a single IMO)

Paul McCartney has been lighting the charts on fire lately. Rihanna thought we wouldn't notice she basically ripped off the blockbuster that was "Only One" for a cheap radio hit.

And it's nice when big artists doesn't fear to take risks Where's the risk here for Rihanna? Have you heard the song? Her hits don't sound like this, and that's what they sent out to lead her album cycle with disregard to the fact that her singles outside of R&B and Dance/Pop usually get the cold shoulder.

This is more "risky" than Russian Roulette ever was but again, it's risky because of her earlier style, not because anything on the song itself is a risk. The fact that Paul McCartney plays guitar on it doesn't make it risky. Lady Gaga could've credited Brian May on You and I if she wanted.
In fact, Paul McCartney is probably creating her own Duets concept (a la Barbra and Lionel) as we speak so all this is just a kickstart for it.

Russian Roulette was a risk because it was a departure from her usual song, and people overreacted really bad to the song. And this is even more risky because it's not only not her usual sound but it's not what you usually hear on top 40 either. Yes, it's accoustic, but this is not Stay (a song fans were not thrilled either and some claimed it would be a flop when it was pretty clear that the song was perfect for her, totally in her range and made shine her voice) which is a song pleasant at first listen. That's not the case here, a lot of people disliked the song at first listen, the song is a grower.
And frankly putting two big names with you doesn't make the song a sure shot, and we have plenty examples of that in recent years

But listen to Sam Smith's hits. And Ed Sheeran's. How is this any different in sound?

But listen to Sam Smith's hits. And Ed Sheeran's. How is this any different in sound? Are you kidding me? This has absolutely nothing in common with Sam Smith's hits. I can see some similarities with the more guitar infused Ed Sheeran's songs but not that much

Hmm the first song I thought about was the ASAP Rocky remix of I'm Not the Only One but maybe it's just me.
