I actually prefer SITW to this one #unpopularopinion but I am ready for this! This is still a great tune and sounds like a perfect single. Really hoping this one ends her #1 drought on Billboard after the chart tomfoolery with her last three singles.

I can see this being a bigger radio hit than the lead single because the subject matter isn't as polarizing. Hopefully this will be the one to break the drought of solo females at #1 on Billboard.

Excellent song and definitely one of her best singles to date. With the right timing, I could see this being a multi-week #1 for her.

I absolutely love when Carrie sings these kind of songs ("Little Toy Guns", "Blown Away"). The song subject itself is unique and one that I feel will stand out enough for it to be a big seller for her. I was a fan of "Something In The Water" but this song is even better. It's one of only three songs I can't stop hitting repeat on my iPod ("Sand" and "Lay Low" being the other two).
This is turning out to be a fantastic Greatest Hits era and I do hope Carrie can continue this great music I've been enjoying with her next full studio album once this song is finished and she's had the delivery of her baby.

I LOVE THIS SONG. For me, it's 100X better than "Water." I am so excited to hear this on the radio.

Count me out on this song. "Something In The Water" was miles better than this IMO, and I wasn't a huge fan of that one either. Her vocals on the chorus just make me cringe, her notes are just too high and whiny for my liking. I'm sure this will do well for her, but I'll go ahead and predict this won't reach #1 for her. I just can't picture a song like this getting the max amount of spins on radio, just not easy going enough for the radio these days.

Definently a heck of a lot better than SITW IMO, She sings the hell out of everything and this one is no different. The best part is that Carrie is an A-lister so we should have a #1 or #2 peak (naturally with Carrie) and plus we will get to hear this one a lot! I love the message behind this song as well. Country radio just got better :)

I don't think I've ever heard someone describe Carrie's voice as whiny...

Literally perfect. So glad to see this getting single treatment. I prefer it to "Something In The Water" (which I still love) and I definitely think that it could be an even bigger hit than its predecessor. Here's to hoping it hits number one! :)

I don't think I've ever heard someone describe Carrie's voice as whiny... It can be at times to me. I can see subjectively that Carrie is a very talented vocalist and has a powerful voice, no arguments here. I like her voice on certain songs (Don't Forget To Remember Me for example, which is her most underrated song in my opinion), but on others it's just overwhelming to me (Celine Dion has a similar effect on me). Whiny isn't always bad though, because I'm a decent sized Kenny Chesney fan, but I consider his voice to be whiny as well.

I wish this had a stronger bridge, but it's still in her Top 5 singles. Sometimes I think it's better than "Blown Away."
In between the coats in the closet She held on to that heart-shaped locket Staring at a family flawless but it ain't a pretty picture tonight Mom and daddy just won't stop it Fighting at the drop of a faucet
What kind of lyricism? Probably tied with "Two Black Cadillacs" as her best co-write. And, this may sound a bit silly, but I appreciate the fact that they chose to profile a young girl in the lyrics rather than a young boy, since plastic guns and games like shoot-em-up cowboy are generally associated with males alone. Carrie bringing awareness to the effects of domestic violence on children while simultaneously breaking down gender stereotypes. <333

While I really enjoyed "Something In The Water", I'd say this is better. Great song. Carrie gets better for me with each song she releases tbh, wasn't a huge fan pre- Blown Away era, and despised "Good Girl", but she's winning me over now.

I want to like this song a lot more than I do, but the lyrics hold it back for me. I think the first verse in particular is well-written, but overall I think the hook comes across rather clumsy/strange and ultimately this just isn't a song I can relate to...not that I need to relate to every single song out there, but I think I might like this one a lot more if it had subject matter that I could relate to.
I love the production at the beginning, through the verses, and between the chorus and the 2nd verse, but the chorus itself is way over-produced. Too much noise, and the vocals are too belt-y for my taste. If the chorus were toned down a bit, and if the song had different lyrics, I would probably really like it. Because again, I do like how it sounds, but I'm just not the biggest fan of the lyrics.
My favorite singles from her are "Don't Forget To Remember Me", "Blown Away", "Wasted", and "Before He Cheats". Play On and Blown Away are my favorite Carrie albums, but I think Some Hearts had the best singles.
Also, I wish Carrie's team would send this single to multiple formats. I know she's primarily a country artist (and I'm glad that she has remained loyal to country), but for a long time now Carrie has more than just dabbled in pop/rock, and there really aren't any country instruments in LTG at all. I know Carrie really doesn't want to cross-over to any other formats, but I think it's pretty obvious that her current music has multi-format appeal. Even if Carrie was okay with sending songs to other formats now and then, I imagine that Sony Nashville would be concerned that any bid at cross-over airplay might hurt Carrie's standing at country radio. I could see country radio having an issue with it if all of Carrie's singles crossed over, but having an occasional cross-over hit shouldn't be that big of a deal. Lady A's done alright, and FGL certainly didn't get punished for the huge hit that "Cruise" became.
Oops, I just brought FGL into a Carrie thread. [/lecture]

I'll admit I'm not a huge fan of this one, but I hope it hits #1 regardless. I have to root for Carrie since she's the only female artist who could hit #1that I don't hate like Miranda, since my favs definitely won't be allowed to.
Still a little devastated "SitW" didn't make it. I loved that song. :(

After missing the penthouse by 351 points or some 75-80 spins with SITW, here's hoping this tune goes all the way to the top this time.

I love this song. It is a great subject and vocal performance. #1 unless country radio is actually unbelievably stupid (they're on the right track not sending SITW to #1). Song of The Year 2015 CMA's, 2016 ACM's!

Love this one. I wasn't as crazy about "Something in the Water" as almost everyone else was - still liked it, but don't listen to it that often - but I'm really excited about this one. It sounds like a surefire smash hit to me, and Carrie sings the heck out of it live.
Unfortunately, I don't anticipate she'll be performing at the ACMs this year (she may not even attend), so I think we might be waiting until June for another performance of this one.
Does anyone know if they already filmed a music video for this? For some reason I feel like I read that they did, but I'm not sure if I'm just making that up.

A song that definitely grabs you on first listen. Not just the vocals, but the story, the lyrics and the production are fantastic too. It just stands out, imo. Might not be a song I can relate to, but this is definitely one of her best co-writes and singles. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the hook of the song is!
I'm not going to predict what position it will reach or how many weeks it can stay at no.1, considering the sh*tty state of country radio. I just want and HOPE to see the impact of this single in sales - the REAL popularity gauge.
As for the comment about Carrie's vocals being "whiny" sometimes, it does seem like Carrie sings at a higher pitch/tone(?) compared to many years ago. Her voice sounds more "piercing" now. I am guessing that's what some people mean by "whiny"?

This had better get proper promotion from Arista. After missing out on Something In The Water, this will redeem the greatest hits CD (gold already). Anyway, someone mentioned whiny Underwood vocals--Remind Me anyone? Yeah, a radio station confirmed it this week. I'll find it. DIBS ON MAKING THE NEW SINGLE THREAD I'VE NEVER MADE ONE BEFORE Congratulations on the new singles thread!

Interesting that you use the word "polarizing". We would think that a song like SITW would be right in country music's lane. A spiritual song sounds like the perfect song for conservative country radio. But, as we all found out, in the end large markets didn't support this song like I thought they would. Then again, it's from a female singer so that might have been a factor. At this point, it seems there are just too many factors entering the spin formula. Hopefully LTG will be receive by country radio and do well. It has a great message but inevitably, the NRA will hear the word GUN and freak out that Carrie Underwood hates guns. Lol Of course, we all know what the song theme is, but it'll happen.

Yeah, what evidence is there the subject matter of "SITW" is what held it back? It seems like it was more about labels wanting to push other (male) artists.

They probably will get behind it saying it's anti-violence, not anti-guns. I also don't know if it'll be a #1 or not but I don't think that about anyone's singles except Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan at the moment.

YESSSS This is easily one of my favorite Carrie singles of all-time (which is saying a lot). I loved SITW, but this one is much more of a smash hit than it was. Everything about this song is pure fire: the instrumentation and the rhythm of the verses just pack a perfect punch for when the chorus hits. And just the fact that the lyrics really paint a picture for the listener as to whats exactly going on make this special. Can't wait for this to smash!
