This album is a masterpiece. My least favorite is either "Don't Judge Me" or "So Afraid", and even those are still very good.
"Screwed" would make a great choice for the next pop/Hot AC single and "I Got The Juice" for urban/rhythmic.

I really like it, I don't LOVE it. The album starts to decline for me after "Make Me". Its funny because I swore Julia Michaels was responsible for "Pynk" as it sounds, musically, like a Selena Gomez song but she actually is credited on "Make Me". I know "Pynk" has a lot of fans but personally, I think it's really basic which is surprising coming from both Janelle AND Grimes. The standous for me are the first six tracks which are almost perfection. They just flow so well into each other. It's a solid album but it's still the problem I've always had with a Monae album. She does many genres well but I can't find what makes her standout. She's always been all over the place and I like that but as a listener, it's always been hard for me to latch onto her.

So the emotion picture has me shook. One of these networks needs to give her a tv deal I would love to see a Sci-fi mini series based off Cyndi and Jane. I was like where is the rest when the emotion picture ended

I Got The Juice NEEDS to be a single! The hook is one of the most memorable on the album with it's brazen approach and this has to be one of the songs Prince helped conceptualize because the drums are so Nasty Girl.

She's a favorite of mine, but I think you summed up why I don't enjoy her albums as much as I feel I should. I personally think she excels on the songs where her voice is the focal point and she can add her twist and uniqueness to simplicity. It's why I love "I Like That." It's rnb, with a little twist that she could expand on, but I personally think that should be her foundation. She really does branch out and ends up everywhere with it.

I can't wait to sit down and watch the movie! Will probably do it tomorrow when I've got some time. The album is really, really good. Melodrama sits at 91 and is one of the best reviewed albums of 2017, and Lorde and Janelle don't even make the same style of music, so I'm not sure why you felt this was necessary.

I love Janelle & Lorde, but why drag the latter It's unnecessary as they're two very different artists Lets just love both artists Though imo, Melodrama is quite better, but Dirty Computer shines in it's own light

MTV Live is showing the film right now. I'm not sure that many people get that channel, but I'm glad she's getting some exposure! Excited to finally listen later.

lol guys I love Melodrama and Lorde. Both her and Janelle are kicking other pop girls' butts in the critics department.

So, while watching the passion pic or whatever she calls it, it struck me that my first exposure to both Beyonce the Album and Lemonade was through their accompanying movies. It was a definitely a struggle, especially for Beyonce the Album, to get into the songs out of context. Had I known that Janelle was pulling a Beyonce, I would have waited to listen to the 4 songs she already released but yeah...this whole project is a masterpiece. I was almost in tears even in the beginning. I am just so happy that she has reached this stage of freedom in her career. She is happy, speaking her truth, and in love. Also, girl looks like a full-course meal plus after-dessert brandy, ya heard? Tessa is certainly out of her league but we can add not shallow to Janelle's list of traits. I can't praise her or this magnum opus enough. Deserving of ALL the critical praise and awards.

Haven't gotten a chance to give it an indepth listen yet, but so far I like it, but I don't love it. I get what she's going for and lyrically it's amazing. Sonically, it doesn't feel much different from electric lady to me

So far I’ve liked each of her studio albums less than the one prior.

Finally watched the emotion picture, and I was just blown away. I love me a politically charged sci-fi queen! I was internally cheering during the credits scene.
Also, the additions made to "Pynk" were incredible and I wish the album version had that bonus verse.

I can appreciate the effort put behind the project but honestly, it all seems like Lemonade 2.0 marketed towards an 'edgier' audience. I'm so tired of this 'empowerment' theme. Yes I am. I totally support artists who try to make bold statements with their ouput but Bey, arguably the biggest female artist of today after Adele, did it and finished everyone so what's the point? It's a sign of the s**tty times we live in, I get it, but at the same time I feel like I've seen the same thing over and over again and I'm so over it at this point.

This is a pass for me. Also, I realized listening to it why she just doesn't click with me - it's her voice. She can sing alright; on key and with considerable power, but her tone is unbelievably grating to my ears... so shouty and shrill. I can barely stomach getting through an entire album by her. And the music itself, hook and melody wise, doesn't make up for the obnoxious voice either. IMO

OK so the album Def grew on me waaay more And honestly Janelle's empowerment themes are far more broader than what most artists do
She let the vagina have a monologue. I still see this being my AOTY, just it's so good And lyrically throughout there is now low point, it's full fiery consistency And sonically it's cohesive bit each song feels different
No weak points on the album for me

I'm glad you're "over it," but Beyoncé finished nothing. If she had, these real life social issues that plague our society would not still be ongoing. These are things that personally affect people, including Janelle herself, and not in a positive way. Dismissing it all because it's been done similarly before is baffling. To reduce that actual struggles these people have been through that they channeled into art with strong political statements as "been there done that" is grossly missing the entire point. Besides, Lemonade does not have the sexual freedom angle Dirty Computer has.

Beyonce wasn't even the first artist to use that concept and Janelle actually did it better and made a cohesive visual.

Besides, Lemonade does not have the sexual freedom angle Dirty Computer has. I completely agree with you which is why I made sure to mention that I understand why Janelle chose this theme, but I'm talking as a music consumer, not an individual in society. The message is great and all but I knew from the first 5 minutes of the film how the story would develop because it's such an overused concept. I'm not saying that it's a copy of anything or that it is not of high quality but when it comes to a project that's supposed to be deep and not just another disposable, only good for parties playlist (see mainstream pop music from 2008-2013) I've come to the point of raising an eyebrow because I can name at least 5 recent projects that have more or less covered the same issues. As someone who checks out everything new in music, it gets boring, that's all. It's just an observation, not hating or inability of understanding why artists want to channel the ongoing social issues through their art. As for the bolded part, I obviously meant in the industry, not society. I'm not even a fan of hers so I'd never dare to say something like that because it's delusional thinking.
