This was the first single from her fifth album, "LOUD." It was produced by Stargate. It went to #1 on the Hot 100, #1 in the UK and #1 at CHR/Pop. It was seen as a return to form, after the rocky "Rated R" era. The video was directed by Anthony Mandler.

I like the beat more than anything. Good song though.

My favorite song she's ever released, and that's saying a lot.

Hate it. I still think this song is way too big for her. Her delivery is shouty and overdone and I remember thinking at the time that this sounded like a Beyonce leftover.

Until the release of "Diamonds" this used to stand as my favorite Rihanna lead single. I loved it instantly and was happy it hit #1 and signified a change in terms of visuals and vibe from the Rated R era (as much as I loved that one too). Listening to it now I can tell it has somewhat dated, but it doesn't bother me; I still love the beat and the way Rihanna sang the song. The bridge is still so good. She couldn't look more stunning in this video. The colors, styling, everything worked. And I've always liked the Pepper Ann inspired hair Rihanna introduced in the Loud era, period.

I loved this a lot more when I first heard it, it's still good to me, but she's made better.

A total jam. It's probably between this, We Found Love, and Russian Roulette as my favorite Rihanna single.

This was the first Pop single from Rihanna that I absolutely loved after some time. This was the start of her best 1-2-3 punch of singles IMO.

I loved this from the first listen and I still do. A+ Guetta ripoff from Stargate. The syncopation grabbed me before the first verse even started.
As popular as many of her singles had been before, imo THIS was when she really started to cement herself. I remember some initial responses on forums saying it was too much of a switch from Rated R and wouldn't work, but they were so so wrong.

When she released this I thought it was very generic until I heard the CCW dub remix. This is probably one of my favorites from her. I remember this premiered the same day that "Whip My Hair" did and I wished she came out with that. She would've killed that.

I want you to love me Like a hot pie ride
It's still a cute song. I remember spinning this and "What's My Name" heavily at the time.

This song only became a hit because she was popular at the time. Kelly Rowland had a similar song around the same time and she flopped.

I agree with this being a return to form for her success wise. Although it wasn't my favorite initially, I thought it was the perfect way to reintroduce herself to pop radio. It was exactly what the public wanted from her at the time. It was clear that Def Jam had given her the opportunity to express herself with Rated R, so they wanted to regain whatever ground they lost with her reaching superstardom during LOUD.
I just find it interesting now how she tends to avoid songs like these that were her biggest hits. She's definitely evolved as an artist.

My favorite Rihanna song, I have so many memories with it. The best being that the song is in GTA V and I had such a good time singing along to it like an idiot with my friends while we wreak havoc on Los Santos.

Trivia note: This was the lead but actually hit #1 on the Hot 100 after the second single hit #1 - I can't recall another instance where that's happened.

I prefer the other Loud singles but this is still a bop.
The entire Loud era is one of my favorites from Rihanna. It was such a fun and bright era after the very dark Rated R era. Plus that red hair looked gorgeous on her. Rihanna was big before Loud, but this era just launched her into super-stardom.

I was obsessed when this came out. It's dated now, but still pops off and will be a defining song of my high school years.
The red hair was everything too.

Classic. I thought it sounded incredibly fresh when it came out, and Rihanna's vocal elevated the song to an even higher level. It is a little dated now but still sounds great.
