The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Clarkson's album, which was released through 19/RCA Records on March 3, bows with 97,000 units earned in the week ending March 8, according to Nielsen Music. Traditional album sales comprise 85.2 percent of that total (equating to nearly 83,000 copies sold -- which also makes it No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart). Clarkson last topped the Billboard 200 in 2009 with her fourth studio effort, All I Ever Wanted. She first led the list with her debut, Thankful, in 2003. She's additionally reached the top 10 four more times: Breakaway (No. 3 in 2004), My December (No. 2 in 2007), Stronger (No. 2 in 2011) and Wrapped In Red (No. 3 in 2013). Clarkson, who was the first winner of the Fox TV reality competition program American Idol, ties fellow Idol champ Carrie Underwood for the most No. 1 albums among Idol contestants. Underwood notched No. 1s with Carnival Ride (2007), Play On (2009) and Blown Away (2012). The Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack rises one rung on the new Billboard 200 to No. 2, as it moves another 96,000 units (down 11 percent). The album has sold 451,000 copies in its four weeks of release, and will likely cross the half-million mark within the next two weeks. Taylor Swift's 1989 is next on the Billboard 200, as it climbs 5-3 with 77,000 units (down 2 percent). The album has yet to leave the top five positions on the chart after 19 weeks in release. The last set to spend its first 19 frames in the top five was Adele's 21, which roamed the region for its first 36 weeks. Drake's If You're Reading This It's Too Late stays steady at No. 4 with 73,000 units (down 26 percent). The album has sold 721,000 copies in its four weeks on sale. Ed Sheeran's x rises 6-5 with 63,000 units (down 14 percent) while last week's No. 1, Big Sean's Dark Sky Paradise, falls 1-6 with 58,000 (down 67 percent) earned in its second week. Maroon 5's V ascends 10-7 with 50,000 units (up 1 percent) and Sam Smith's In the Lonely Hour is a non-mover at No. 8 with nearly 50,000 (down 17 percent). This marks the 31st nonconsecutive week in the top 10 for the latter title -- the most weeks in the top 10 for an album by a male artist since Justin Bieber's My World 2.0 claimed 31 weeks in the region between 2010 and 2011. Brandi Carlile's The Firewatcher's Daughter is the second and final debut in the top 10, as the set starts at No. 9 with 43,000 units. The album is the singer/songwriter's first for ATO Records, and marks her second top 10 effort following 2012's Bear Creek (which debuted and peaked at No. 10). Closing out the latest top 10 is Meghan Trainor's Title (rising 13-10) with 38,000 units (up less than 1 percent).

**massive sigh of relief**
so the first artist to be denied a No. 1 album due to the new methodology (well, besides NOW) has yet to be decided. I'm so glad it wasn't Kelly!

My god by only 1k copies!! 8*o. Sooo happy she got it PLUS she ended up higher than predicted. 'This' close to 100k w/ a lackluster first single that's barely doing anything on radio! Take THAT slimy Clive Davis!! ;P Granted, her *album sales were def. higher but thank god this new irritating streaming rule didn't make Kelly the first casualty of that rule! Was feeling barely 60/40 she would somehow get it. Amazing after 13 years, being an American Idol winner, and all the 'image' issues so many people talking about she STILL got a #1 album! Great achievement for a great person and singer!

Who blocked AIEW from #1? Just goes to show you timing is EVERYTHING. This album went #1 without a smash while MLWSWY was SMASHING when AIEW debuted. All I Ever Wanted did hit #1. Both My December and Stronger were blocked by a Hannah Montana soundtrack and Coldplay. Breakaway peaked at #3.

HUH? AIEW went to #1. My December and Stronger missed #1 (only cause they were super dopey releasing it against *Coldplay)! :#

After disappointing numbers, it's nice to at least see her get the #1.

She didn't 'sell' nearly 100k, so let's not overestimate. But, yeah, she got a #1 debut.

Glad that a new entry snared the top spot. That 50 Shades soundtrack is really benefiting from the performance of the singles.

Drake's If You're Reading This It's Too Late is again the best-selling Hip Hop album on the Billboard 200 after Big Sean's latest fell from #1 to #6 in its second week on shelves. Nicki Minaj is still in the Top 20 as The Pinkprint lands at #13, just a few spots ahead of Mark Ronson's steadily performing Uptown Special. Meanwhile, Chris Brown and Tyga fell more than a dozen spots to #24 after their collaborative album Fan of a Fan debuted in the Top 10 last week. Lower down the list, G-Unit's latest EP debuts at #27 and Rae Sremmurd see their debut pick up steam after stuttering last week. Drake At #4 For A Second Week In A Row With another 38,950 albums sold over the last week, Drake's If You're Reading This It's Too Late has now edged out 721,454 total album sales. The latest numbers represent a 26% decrease in sales for Drake from last week but the Toronto rapper still holds claim to the most-streamed record on the chart with more than 30 million clocked over the latest sales period. Big Sean Falls From #1 To #6 While last week's release may have put up been Big Sean's best first-week sales ever, Dark Sky Paradise fell five spots from #1 to #6 most recently. Sean sold another 35,359 records this past week, enough to bring his third album's total to 174,786. Dark Sky Paradise is still one of the most streamed albums on the chart but the Detroit rapper's total activity count fell more than 65% over the last seven days with his pure album sales dropping more than 100,000 from his breakout release week. G-Unit Debuts At #27 Now onto their second post-reunion EP, G-Unit debuted at just #27 this past week despite selling more albums than many of the Hip Hop and R&B releases ahead of The Beast on the charts. Despite the 17,639 albums sold, The Beast put up relatively low streaming and single song sales numbers. Top 10 Billboard Top 200 Rap & R&B Albums For The Week Ending 03/08/2015 #4. www.metalinsider.net/columns/metal-by-numbers/metal-by-numbers-311-the-charts-lend-a-handMetal By Numbers 3/11: The charts lend a handPosted by Matt Brown on March 11, 2015 Metal By Numbers is a weekly column in which we look at the top metal sellers and debuts of the week. We’re pretty inclusive in this column. Sure it’s all about the metal, but we tend to even include bands with only the slightest ties to the genre. Case in point: this week’s top debut from Steven Wilson. His recent work has been more prog rock than metal, but, well, the man formed Porcupine Tree and produced Blackwater Park, dammit. So should you ever read this column and wonder “Why the hell is so-and-so on here?,”chances are there’s a good reason. Notable Debuts: Steven Wilson, Hand. Cannot. Erase. (Kscope) #26, 12,375 sold Wilson’s latest solo album marks the best debut of his solo career. Sons of Texas, Baptized In The Rio Grande (Razor & Tie) #143, 2,275 sold You’d think these guys were a country band judging by their name, but you’d be wrong. The band’s debut album gets a solid start. UFO, A Conspiracy of Stars (SPV/Steamhammer) #191, 1,700 sold On their 21st studio album, UFO have charted in the US for the first time since Misdemeanor in 1985. Leviathan, Scar Sighted (Profound Lore) 1,100 sold This is the fifth album from Jef Whitehead’s one-man black metal project. Notable Sales:Kid Rock, First Kiss (Warner Bros.) #7, 33,475 sold When your album is still in the top 10 after a 76% drop, you’re doing okay. Red, Of Beauty and Rage (Essential) #35, 7,725 sold A second week 78% drop. Falling In Reverse, Just Like You (Epitaph) #42, 6,525 sold This is falling by 73%. AC/DC, Rock or Bust (Columbia) #48, 5,700 sold This will be a gold record by next week. All That Remains, The Order of Things (Razor & Tie) #59, 4,950 sold A 74% drop in week two. Marilyn Manson, The Pale Emperor (Loma Vista) #73, 4,050 sold Over 90,000 copies sold. Slipknot, .5: The Grey Chapter (Roadrunner) #87, 3,600 sold At week 20, this gains a 5% boost and crosses the 300,000 mark in sales. Foo Fighters, Sonic Highways (RCA) #120, 2,625 sold Not much change for this week. Papa Roach, F.E.A.R. (Eleven Seven) #159, 2,050 sold A drop of 12%. The Pretty Reckless, Going To Hell (Razor & Tie) #167, 1,900 sold This makes a steady climb back up with a 16% boost. In This Moment, Black Widow (Atlantic) #171, 1,875 sold A 12% drop as this closes in on the 100,000 mark. Of Mice & Men, Restoring Force: Full Circle (Rise) #173, 1,850 sold Forced into a 74% drop. Rob Zombie, Spookshow International Live (UMe) #197, 1,625 sold This takes a tumble of 66%. Black Star Riders, The Killer Instinct (Nuclear Blast) 1,275 sold A killer drop of 54%. Revolution Saints, Revolution Saints (Frontiers) 1,175 sold A 69% drop? Saint it ain’t so! Torche, Restarter (Relapse) 1,100 sold A 78% drop in week two. Like a Storm, Awaken The Fire (Century Media) 1,000 sold It looks like the storm has begun to ebb with a 72% drop.
