I didn't know Public Affair sold that much! I thought it was a flop that didn't even go gold!! I LOVE that album even with those new, strangled vocals. I hope she has worked with a vocal coach and ditched her poor technique of swallowing her words. I'll never forget when she debuted I Wanna Love You Forever on some Pepsi network summer concert thing on TV and I was so impressed with her powerhouse vocals and then she started doing this misguided sex kitten thing with her voice that didn't quite work. I am definitely curious though because, like I said, Public Affair was actually really solid and even had some moments that reminded me of her original voice.

CocoBae, think you just explained Jessicals voice perfectly. I also want to add it got slightly harsher as well. I as well didn't know or think "Public Affair" sold that much. I guess that's a WW figure or singles added in??? I was Obsessed with "Public Affair" the single and really liked a few other tracks from that cd. I thought the midtempo/ballads were really good. I also Loved "Fired Up" Yes it was kind of a Britney rip off but, who cares? LoL There's a few songs on there that sound like she's trying to hard to be fun and goofy but as a whole it wasn't awful.

That's clearly a worldwide figure; I think it sold about 400k max in the States.

Yeah, her vocals on A Public Affair were pretty bad, but I thought she sounded great on most of Do You Know (the title track is one of my favorite vocal performances of hers) and Happy Christmas, so I'm confident her voice is still there. I just hope she uses it on this album.

In spite of the butchering of Fired Up (the demo >>>>>), I've always thought APA was a solid Pop album that was maligned by horrible promotion and single choices. I will never understand what possessed her label to release a WALMART bonus track as the second single!

How do you have 'You Spin Me Round...' and 'Fired Up' on the album and not release either of them as singles? It's not even like 'I Belong to Me' was a monster song that was screaming to be released, either. And that video...oh, that video. It still amazes me that she followed up the best two videos of her career ('These Boots...' and 'APA') with that.

I don't think I ever saw that video. I LOVED the song though. I don't know why it wasn't on the standard version. So bizarre.

I remember seeing the "I Belong to Me" video for the first time and being so taken aback by those facial expressions. Girl was going a little too hard with her angst.

I don't think I ever saw that video. I LOVED the song though. I don't know why it wasn't on the standard version. So bizarre. I remember her saying in an interview that she felt it didn't completely fit the vibe of her album, but she let it become a bonus track. Meanwhile, her label opted for a "Choose the Second Single!" POLL, which it won (by the fans), and was chosen. Later pressings of the album were supposed to include the track (especially since they made a 'radio/video' version), but I am pretty sure they scrapped that idea when the song underperformed and the album wasn't revived. Definitely my favorite album of hers, since her earlier ones had too many filler tracks, and I wish it had been more successful. I don't know why, but I can't help but wonder if Nick Lachey's "What's Left of Me" coming out first (and becoming massively successful) affected the public's view of her and this album.

I'm sure it did, considering his entire promo campaign for that album was basically him trashing her and their marriage. I mean, that Rolling Stone interview he did...

In what universe was that album massively successful? His single was massive! #6 on the Hot 100! His followup was good too. Guys let's listen to Nick Lachey together!!

Ngl, loved "What's Left of Me" lol.
It's funny when A Public Affair was first released I didn't like it all that much, but with time its become my favorite of her albums. It's actually cohesive compared to her other albums which aren't and certainly has some jams on it.

Still annoyed "A Little Bit" wasn't a hit. Those were dark times for pure pop.

It's been so long since she had a hit, and even longer since a HUGE hit. I'd love nothing more than for her to come back with a top 10 hit after all these years. I hope she can get some big producers to work with.

I'm curious to hear some new Jessica but she needs to change her music sound, no more country and focus on pure pop gold.

I always preferred Ashlee over Jessica to be honest, but I remember I really like "Irresistible" back in 2001. Oh! And as off topic, I still enjoy "What's Left of Me".
She looks so awkward
