welp, "Baby Its Cold Outside" plays pretty regularly in department stores. o/t: her music career would've been bigger if she would've held out on her divorce for about another year. "In This Skin" was pretty huge but she needed one more big era to solidify her music. Her team made the mistake of tying her entire identity/prior music too much to her marriage ("With You" and "Take My Breath Away" are her biggest singles no?) so once that was over, so was her fanbase. Her "Public Affair" album actually had about 3-4 tracks that could've done well enough for it to be just as big but she was already painted as the bad guy ala Britney after Justin- only difference being Britney had a solid catalog of hits and fans before Justin to weather that storm. And it sucks that Nick sold her out just to end up going gold. Her album actually had a lot more potential but he really just ended both their careers in 2006. Her other big singles were: i think I’m in love with you, irresistible, & I wanna love you forever Each of those spent 20 weeks on Chr. And the first two went top 5 on the format

Nastia Liukin was a guest mentor on Dancing with the Stars and she ended up dancing to Jessica’s “Swing With Me.”
Glad to know the A Public Affair album is still remembered!

I sometimes sit and imagine a life where Fired Up was the lead single from APA, and she became the biggest caucasian popstar. Smh.
Katy Perry releasing a rehashed “A Public Affair” in 2010 with Snoop Dogg tacked on serves some sort of justice though.

I miss hearing "I Wanna Love You Forever" on the radio. I thought it was a staple back then on Adult Contemporary (alongside Britney's "Sometimes" and Christina's "What a Girl Wants") but I haven't heard it in a long time.

Jessica never was appreciated enough in the music industry. It's a shame!! She sang live etc.

I loved "Public Affair" title track from what I thought was a pretty god cd. "Public Affair" the title track was pop candy to me but maybe a bit to girly for radio? I was shocked when it stalled but maybe the smirks I used to get from "girlfriends" when it would come on should of said something. Most likely Top 3 favorite track of 06 for me. The cd it came form wasn't bad at all and was very over looked in my opinion. Another poster pointed out "Fired Up" being a bop and yes it is. Very XTina meets Britney with a taste of Janet maybe?? I also liked "Back To You" and what sounded like a "Forever" type track by Mariah "Between You And I". But some of the tracks were to "pop" or corny like "Push Your Tush" for me. I liked "B.O.Y" too. I guess it was only 3 maybe 4 tracks I didn't care for out of both the original and re release.

I Belong To Me & I Don't Want to Care are pretty stellar... but the overall album pretty much sucks The problem with her carreer is that she doesnt have 1 good album... in all of her albums there are TERRIBLE songs and non of them feel like a body of work the closest shr got was with In This Skin, but still... there's songs like Forbidden Fruit and My Way Home which are straight up garbage lol

I really wish her talent was more of a focus during her imperial ‘04-05 Queen of Pop peak. The “Divas Live” broadcast is probably her best live vocals from that era, her slaying Gladys on her own song with that last note, i- She also performed with Patti LaBelle that night.

Crazy to think she was considered a vocalist during her debut era to then later that taking a backseat to her dumb blonde persona. I agree that they really should've pushed her talent just as much as they did her image then.

Forbidden Fruit a.k.a. Die Another Day Pt. II > Oh if you swear to MAAAAAAAAAAY. Forbidden Fruit is a jam. Even though her vocal technique is terrible and decided to start singing from her throat while gargling mouthwash (not to mention those robot jerk-off hand motions and pained facial expressions), she really did have some bops. The title of this thread tho...

I’m still in awe after all these years at her vocals on “I Wanna Love You Forever” and for her team being so bold to release that as her debut single (versus the uptempos her peers - Britney, Christina, Mandy - had).

In what universe was that album massively successful? His single was massive! #6 on the Hot 100! His followup was good too. Guys let's listen to Nick Lachey together!! His corny ass videos of walking around on the beach. It’s like an SNL parody

IWLYF is a great song and Jessica sounded amazing singing it, but I don't understand what happened to her voice after that. She never came close to sounding that good again.
Her music career has been such a WTF. Though, with her being a billionaire "business woman", I doubt she cares at all.

Why did she stop singing in the first place? FWIW she only had two really big hits and they were pretty far apart from each other. "I Wanna Love You Forever" was a big hit but they never quite managed to get another one after that and her career started tanking, and she was pretty clearly in the shadow of Britney and Christina. Her second album only went Gold after her debut got a 2xPlatinum certification. This was back when Britney was doing Diamond albums back to back. Then the reality show revived her career, while Britney was starting to struggle with her public image and Christina wasn't aiming for bubblegum pop anymore... but she wasn't marketed as a vocalist. She was now marketed as a dumb blonde. Her third album skyrocketed with a re-release, went 3xPlatinum (by this point Britney was down to 2xPlatinum with In The Zone), "With You" was a big hit, especially considering it was a Pop song during a time when Pop wasn't doing well on the charts, but, the video in particular played with the whole dumb blonde image so people didn't really take her seriously. She managed to sell well on iTunes for a while ("A Public Affair", her "Boots are Made for Walkin'" cover both peaked inside top 15 on the Hot 100 mostly due to sales), but she never quite got radio support after "With You" went #1 on Pop radio, so her career started tanking once again. She tried Country but people couldn't really take her seriously because they still remembered her dumb blonde persona. By now it's been 16 years since radio last played her. She's 38. No one takes her seriously as a vocalist. Releasing music is pointless from a commercial standpoint because there's no audience for her. And I don't think she's got a great creative indie album in her that can at least garner some critical acclaim. The "dumb blonde" thing was smart at the time but it also meant she was never going to have much longevity.

She's been recording an album for the past few years. Working with Linda Perry and Billy Corgan. The surprise(?) pregnancy has stalled things it seems on the music front.

I like your post but she made more of a musical dent than you make it seem. lol Her 3rd single from her debut cd "I Think I'm In Love With You" reached num.21 on the Hot 100 and reached num.4 at CHR/Top 40 radio. I'm not sure if there was a physical single released and if there was may have been limited. Her follow up cd produced "Irresistible" which reached num.15 on The Hot 100 and num.2 at Top 40. But yeah follow up singles didn't do anything until "With You".

Way back when her label screwed up. They kept delaying her release. She could have been on top over Britney and Christina, but Sony drug their feet.
