It's interesting to note that with Ghost Town, Adam Lambert becomes only the third Idol alumni reaching the top 40 Pop with two album eras, following on the footsteps of Kelly Clarkson, Daughtry and Jordin Sparks. You mean forth, right? Anyway, GT is almost top 30 now and the grace period on the radio is almost over. It will need to debut soon on the Hot 100 and to reach and consistently be in iTunes top 100 in order to not end up like OctaHate, Goodbye, Don't Look Down, and so many others. Luckily, the song seems to respond to the radio play. I think it jumped 30+ places in iTunes this weekend mostly because of the syndicated AT40 spin, and hopefully the TV promo next week will help it debut on the Hot 100 at June 25th.

Yes...that big increase is AT40...it didn't quite get the full effect because the song was played last weekend on the iheartradio top 20 when Adan co-hosted and those spins were gone this weekend
Listening to the album stream now...really great.

I really hope this at least reaches top 20. I'm excited to hear the full album; I haven't listened to anything else from it so far but I've heard almost universal positivity about them!

I think he has the timing on his favour, the song is climbing on itunes just before the big promo starts, so the odds are in his favour. Anyway, Goodbye was on the hot 100 for a week (i think it was at 98 or something like that). In the case of some new artist, Fany, Ry Weaver and even Tori Kelly, the labels are failing with the timing of promotion, in most cases it's coming too late when the songs are dead on radio

Anyway, Goodbye was on the hot 100 for a week (i think it was at 98 or something like that). Yup, after it already peaked in CHR.. but here the promo comes at the right time. I hope there is more TV promo lined up for after the release week.

Been hearing this a LOT on radio. Good for Adam, especially after that disaster (on radio) last era.

They half priced this in the UK this week and it stayed top40 for 3 or 4 days, v.good preorder performance. Probably a good move as he doesnt have time for much UK promo.
The U.S. ITunes position has generally been poor given the airplay, but promo is clicking in next week. Would be a strange turnaround if radio like this more than the market... Will be interested to see album sales. I believe Trespassing sold 77k first week...

He hit #1 with that 77k. Pretty sure the album plummeted after that. Didnt have a hit single (that I remember). They obviously picked one of the least competitive weeks w/ that one. Dunno who he's going against next week and if it's the same scenario.
Like others said, while the song isn't 'smashing' on radio, it's strangely getting way more love from then the public. Dunno if it has 'some' kind of deal- to keep it afloat until the album comes out or whatever. I listened to the song one time and almost fell asleep lol. Like Billboard said in its review, it's lacking something and should've gone to the next level but didn't (something along those lines). It's not bad, not good, just seems to float and goes nowhere. The fact it's still struggling to go above #120 or so on iTunes (even w. it being top 30 on pop) prob. means if it doesn't pick up in the next week or so, I can't see continuing to get positive gains.

I think Adam is going to compete with Hilary Duff for #1 in Album Chart. Of course, that's assuming they both were over 50k or 1989 might block them

I'd wait to see what it does after next week. Right now the song is free with a pre-order of the album and it hasn't reached 10 million AI yet. We will be able to tell in a week or two how it is impacting on its own. I had no idea that it was discounted in the UK. On iTunes? I hate I missed that.

The song might be top 30 (and it's not today) but it barely has 8M CHR AI. Pray To God reached over 15M CHR AI before radio gave up on it due to failing to enter iTunes top 100, Don't Look Down reached over 10M AI and failed to reach the top 100 in ITunes.. There are plenty of other examples and the "love" GT is supposedly getting from the radio is no different than them and there's nothing special about it. GT however has a good chance of reaching iTunes top 100 next week with the TV promo and the real question is whether it'll be able to hold or fall back down afterwards.

Lambert doesn't have a huge US fanbase, the track was free with album pre-order, its not an overseas hit with some buzz crossing the pond, and its only had one tv performance shortly after release. Its never been put on sale on iTunes (sales have helped a bunch of songs shoot up chart and stay there due to increased visibility). So its iTunes position was always going to totally depend on radio play for some period of time. And yeah, the AI isn't high enough to be making a huge difference yet. But I think the good news in that regard is that the iTunes position is responding positively to increased airplay. It has been slowly rising as airplay has increased, and this past weekend it jumped 70 plus spots into the 130s/140s after SNOL and AT40 spins. That trend will likely continue this weekend and into next week when he has a week of album promo planned including Fallon, Kelly & Michael, GMA an iheart release party/streamed performance, and another snol guest spot.

Right now the chart run on pop radio (and hot ac) is perfectly normal. There's absolutely nothing strange with it, and it's pretty clear the label is promoting but not pushing the song (and that maybe it's a good idea, because some examples of labels pushing the song, Stuck on a feeling, Nobody love, didn't end well, with the song dead on radio by the times the sales were catching). The song is top 30 for a couple of days (in fact today the song is at 31), before the top 30 the airplay doesn't affect the sales that much, so it's too soon to know if the airplay is working or not. It's not an instant catchy song, so this could go both ways. It's not a song people are going to love at first listen (in fact i didn't like it at all the first time). He has promo next week which probably will guarantie Ghost town charting in the hot 100 at least for a week, it could be the beginning of it's chart run if the promo is a success or simply the effort of the promo if the song won't catch steam.

These both had On The Verge deals, which would likely explain why the songs rose at the speed that they did, only to then crash.
