I somehow doubt that Uptown Funk will be able to beat Mariah's record. I figure that either Earned It, Trap Queen, or Rihanna's new single will have dethroned it by then. UF has 13 weeks in the bag and still has a significant lead 'overall'. You think in just 3 weeks it's gonna be easy for those songs to catch up (again in *overall points) Very unlikely ESP Rihannas new single lol. That alone has little no validity. How on earth will dethrone UF when its already getting red updates and is 100% urban/hip hop..not pop/crossover appeal in any way.

But that was (probably) the most anticipated single release of the decade so far I think Roar and Payphone may be up there too. I know this is totally unrelated so why bother discuss it further but while you could make a case for "Roar" (still nowhere near the anticipation of BTW), the inclusion of "Payphone" here is a real stretch. Despite a super meh-reception, BTW sold 1 million downloads in 10 days and with a full week of radio, was #1 at CHR in its first couple days out. Anyway, seems like UF has week 13 guaranteed. At this point, I think the only way it doesn't make it to 16 weeks at #1 is a completely new single (Rihanna's 'pop' single?) or a popular song getting a viral video blowing up.

Someone on Twitter claimed that BBHMM sold around 42k copies in its first 24 hours on sale. Not sure how reliable that is, though.

It was at almost twice the sales of Uptown Funk yesterday and UF is selling about 23k per day on average (according to Kworb's prediction) so 42k for BBHMM sounds about right.

Only two songs in top 75 with 2M+ gains...interesting
At this rate, Earned It will be #6 in airplay by Wednesday. It would be really nice if it makes it to #1 on the Hot 100 but I'm not too sure about it

It is steadily climbing in sales and may very well as a result climb in streaming. Many of the songs that do very well and reach #1 climb slowly but surely (Thrift Shop, Rolling In The Deep, Somebody That I Used To Know, etc.) Kworb is predicting BBHMM to sell 185k! :O Of course the numbers may still change but bitch is definitely getting ha money Yeah Kworb doesn't take into account the fact that UF surges every weekend plus that BBHMM will probably crash pretty hard in the next couple days. I wouldn't be surprised if UF sells more this week in total and ties Low's record on Digital Songs.

I don't think BBHMM is a bad song at all, but then I tend to like stuff that's a bit grating and aggressive. T40 programmers don't. I think this one will be a tough sell.
UF just keeps going, but it'll probably end up hitting a wall at some point when everyone gets collectively sick of it, and then it'll just be about whatever's next in line -- probably "Sugar," the way things are going now. One example not too long ago was when "I Gotta Feeling" ran out of gas all at once, and Jay Sean, Jason Derulo, and Owl City all ended up with #1 hits they probably wouldn't have had otherwise.

But Jay Sean was not on the decline (as evident by the fact that it spent three weeks at #1, not just one, and it would've been four if not for Britney's debut) at the time. Sugar is starting to lose steam in sales and soon enough streaming and airplay while it is still very far behind Uptown Funk in overall points. LMLYD might have a small chance, but I doubt its sales will hold up long enough. I think Earned It is the most likely to be the one to dethrone UF (other than a surprise debut or if BBHMM somehow clicks with the general public for more than just a few days) since it's getting excellent gains in airplay and slowly but surely climbing in sales (and probably streaming).

Also, with the weekend starting and UF climbing, combined with the fall of BBHMM, I wouldn't be surprised to see UF outsell BBHMM this week.

I love the idea of UF being the longest running #1.. it will definitely be more memorable than OSD which is (and always will be) overshadowed by other hits Mariah and Boyz II Men had.

As others have said, it's 'looking like' (unless something epic drops by surprise in the next 3-4 weeks or goes super viral) UF has this. Earned It seems to be the only thing in sight that has a shot but correct me if I'm wrong, looks like airplay is the only noteworthy thing going for it. Sales so far are decent but just like LMLYD, sales are basically stagnant. Even w/ the monster daily radio gains, gut is telling me it's just too far back (overall) to be able to topple UF in only 3-4 weeks. *Unless UF abruptly crashes across the board (sales, *streaming and airplay) don't see how it giving #1 up. Out of the 3, airplay seems to be the only 'minor' possible issue. Sales and esp. streaming refuse to let up. I think it has enough of a firewall (unlike BL, Low and even IGF) to do it.
BL, Low and IGF def. had waay more competition. Also, keep in mind w/ IGF it was still just sales and airplay. Streaming etc etc..weren't in the mix yet. No doubt w/a song like IGF, if viral and streaming were factors, it most likely woulda gotten more than 14 weeks. Again, major advantage UF has (like w/ any #1) is *minimal/no competition! Think that was the same exact case for One Sweet Day. No doubt if Macarena lol came out during its run, or something similar, would of most likely changed things.

People are still gonna call it a Bruno Mars song, 20 years from now though lol lol Of course. He singing the entire song! Ronson just produced it (and maybe wrote it...not sure). All people look at is who SANG the song :). Just wonder (which they have to be!) aware of how close they are to getting the record and if they have some 'tricks' up their sleeve (remix, new videos etc...) to make it a done deal.

How accurate would the title "biggest hit ever" be if people don't even know who the lead artist actually is?

How accurate would the title "biggest hit ever" be if people don't even know who the lead artist actually is? If Mark Ronson wanted to be remembered as the lead artist of "UF" he would let sb like Aloe Blacc or Sam Martin to be the singer of his song just like the Avicii's and Guetta's style! Everybody knows Avicii as the lead artist of WAKE ME UP (You may say that Mark Ronson was not popular so he used Bruno but it is not true!Avicii was not popular either in US when he released WMU) So he doesn't "need" to be remembered as the lead artist of UF :)

You know, back in the day, like 1940s, it was the same. The lead artist was the bandleader's orchestra. So mark ronson being lead is kind of retro.

Regardless of how long the #1 run is, I think the "biggest hit ever" title is safe unless it can come back 2 years from now in a completely separate chart run and hit #1 again.

from what we know/understand about BB streaming policies, will the "Trouble" viral video count? the original and most viewed version is on Facebook, and I can't remember if that makes a difference for BB sake.
if it does, will it be enough for a Top 10 placement? it's in the Top 20 on iTunes, but I think its airplay is negligible. it'd be cool to see Iggy get another Top 10, and I believe it would be JHud's first?

In general this is why it's hard to compare hits across eras because there are so many differences. "OSD" may have spent longer at #1 if Sony hadn't deleted the single. Sales plummeted because the commercial single was deleted. "OSD" may have also had more weeks at #1 had all genres of airplay counted at that time since it also got R&B airplay that didn't count toward the Hot 100 at that time. There are a lot of unknowns for all songs. Maybe if "Iris" had a commercial release, it would hold the record. Who knows?
