The Urban radio needs to give "Yoga" a chance its screeches for proper airplay from the format and is significantly better than anything in the Top 20. Plus, its almost summer time "Let me see you do that yoga."

Or maybe people just dont want this kind of stuff from her. What "people"? What kind of "stuff" do they want? When she was doing the Archandroid stuff, getting critical acclaim, fans gushing over her music...radio refused. When Electric Lady came out, and fricking PRINCE gave it a thumbs up, she got critical acclaim, fans still gushing...radio still refused. Now we have a song that couldn't be more radio friendly, fits in perfectly with the current music landscape...radio still refuses. What else can she do? Be MORE outgoing? Be MORE talented? Be MORE creative? Be MORE mainstream? Be MORE experimental? All sorts of crap from way less capable, less thoughtful artists gets spins these days. But, for some reason radio absolutely refuses to touch Janelle Monae. Makes no sense. |

I don't understand the fuss about "selling out," blah blah blah. Sonically, this isn't that far removed from a lot of her material. She's so varied musically, you could plop this on her last album and it wouldn't even stand out IMO. Lyrically? It's more sexual than anything she's ever done before, but at the same time, it still has tons of quirky wordplay that is kind of her trademark. You guys are acting like she's singing "Pour It Up" or "BBHMM" or something.
Everyone was creaming their pants for "Primetime," when it was by far the most commercial, straight-forward single she had ever released. I don't think this is nearly as good, but it's still a jam.

Songs like Tightrope, Q.U.E.E.N., Electric Lady, Can't Live Without Your Love, and What An Experience all sound like sure-fire hits at that format. |
