Just a very generic, boring ballad to me

I don't think so. It's not bad, but it was a hit more due to name recognition and career momentum than actual quality, as almost anything either act did then would have smashed. It's a typical sentimental R&B ballad of which there were many in the 1990s and doesn't really stand out in any way other than the Billboard magazine chart statistics. It doesn't deserve hate, but it isn't really an unfairly neglected treasure, either. I don't agree it was a hit more due to name recognition than quality as plenty of superstar duets have flopped over the years. And while it is a typical 90s ballad in some ways, its actual message was not common. How many songs in the first half of the 90s were about the hope of being reunited in the after life?

2 of the biggest and best acts of the decade came together for one of the best songs of the decade. i loved 90's pop and r&b ballads so definitely underrated based on the comments in this thread.

Very interesting results. I guess... because most of you consider this song just a "good" 90s ballad/rather boring with a good message, sung by 2 of the biggest R&B musicians at that time.... So, most of you disagree about it being underrated (despite how huge it was, back in mid 90s).

The answer is always yes when it comes to One Sweet Day. Iconic tune.

It’s a beautiful song. The haters can have a sour day.

"One Sweet Day" is one of the loveliest and most heartfelt records released in the '90s. I still listen to it frequently.

"One Sweet Day" is one of the loveliest and most heartfelt records released in the '90s. I still listen to it frequently. This. Mariah and Boys II Men absolutely killed this lyrically and vocally. Plus, it’s a song about death. I imagine most people wouldn’t go out of their way to regularly listen to such an arguably sad song comparatively but that doesn’t make it any less of beautiful crafted and performed song.
